Dear Supporter: Welcome to the Sixth Quetzal Award Gala. We are thrilled to celebrate with you once again another great community leader that is committed and has worked tirelessly to move our community forward; the Honorable Council President Luis A. Aponte. As always, we thank you and our sponsors for being part of this event that celebrates the richness of our community by highlighting the accolades of our members, our culture and heritage. As an organization we are committed to empowering the new generation of Guatemalan-Americans through celebration and promotion of identity and culture. Additionally, we understand that education is pivotal and thus have worked hard to promote higher education by establishing a scholarship fund. Tonight four scholarships will be awarded. Once again, thank you for your support and we look forward to many years of celebrating our past, present and future! ยกMuchas gracias! Tiana Ochoa President

Community Work The Binational Health Week (BHW) has become one of the largest mobilization efforts in the Americas to improve the health and well-being of the underserved Latino population living in the United States and Canada. During BHW, federal and state government agencies, community-based organizations and thousands of volunteers come together annually in the month of October to conduct a series of health promotion and health education activities that include workshops, insurance referrals, vaccinations and medical screenings. Since 2011, the Guatemalan Center of NE has worked collaboratively with the Guatemalan Consulate, community providers and social service agencies to provide preventative health care services and education to the local Latino community. In Rhode Island, hundreds of Guatemalans have received free basic health screenings for diabetes, cholesterol and hypertension. Workshops about nutrition, oral and mental health.
