Digging Deep with the Chameleon
Lynch Plant Hire are proud to have taken delivery of a chameleon excavator! The machine is based on the Hitachi 350lc base machine and using a telescopic arm can reach depths of up to 25 metres. We are really pleased with the performance and productivity of this machine commented Operations Director Mark Kennedy.
We have really listened to our customers over the past 12 months and asked them what can we do for them, more than just standard plant and equipment, you can find at any plant hire company. We as a business believe that there is a gap in the market place for specialist machines including 2 piece booms, off set booms, knuckle booms, and Chameleon excavators. This is the first machine of 2016 to come on line from our “specialist plant”. Not only are we making the
investment in the equipment but also the specialist operator training and safety to suit.
The telescopic or more commonly known chameleon can dig depths up to 25 metres. The machine offers smooth and rapid operation ensuring high levels of productive and efficiency. Gone are the days of man and cranes lowering skips to the bottom of excavations over 8 metres, these machines speed up the progress and make it a safer operation as you take the man out of the working zones.
Using a technologically advanced combination of rope and hydraulic cylinders, the clamshell telescopic arm extends and retracts smoothly with a full load in seconds. The machines are fitted with sliding cabs and glass floors for brilliant vison during operation.
“Everything in this machine has been carefully designed to around the digging operation” commented Assistant Operation Managers Liam Moore. I was a full time driver for over 10 years and have never driven a machine like this! It’s the simple things that sometimes go a very long way, for example by moving the track pedals to the side of the cab increases your vison during operation.
Seeing the machine working on the site next to the traditional method of skip and crane the machine wins every time! You no longer need to re-handle the same material over and over again. Dig the material out at great depths and then place straight into the backs of lorries for movements off site. You will also have a saving on not needing the extra plant on site over the duration of the project. It’s got the thumbs up from me!

Kubota @ Lynch South East Operations
Lynch Plant Hire had a senior delegation visit from Kubota, Japan. The team were very keen to find out what their customers think on the Kubota product. “ we believe the only way for Kubota to move forward and stay a leader in compact construction equipment is by listening and spending time with the customers, We are very grateful for Mr Gill and Mr Moore’s time, commented Tomohiro Ikenaga (Tony), Global Marketing Manager for Kubota Corporation, We have found the meeting very interesting and some good points were raised. The meeting had two key elements first was the Business model and reasons why Lynch purchased Kubota, the second half was all about the Kutota’s performance on the fleet and what Lynch would like to see moving forward.
Lynch Plant Hire started purchasing Kutota’s from 1995 after looking hard to find a new supplier in the compact excavator market. “ We are really pleased with the Kubota’s operational performance, back up from the supplier and overall running costs, we also a very good return when going to sale this brand in the second hand market, commented Assistant Operations Manager, Liam Moore. I am really pleased that Kubota chose Lynch to spend the day with and I think both parties find this a very useful exercise. I look forward to seeing them again later this year and helping Kubota with a product design a new design of machine, my lips are sealed!
A good cause with Skanska
he team working at the M1 Scheme has used tractor tyres, donated from Rob Brown, a local farmer, to create new ‘tyre tunnels’ at Swinford Church of England Primary School. The volunteers also gained approval from suitable advisory organisations and liaised with the farmer to inspect the tyres and take measurements in order to formulate a specific design for the works. The tyres varied in size and had different inner wall dimensions, meaning ten individual excavations had to be created for each tyre to maintain a consistent tunnel. It took the team half a day to create the tunnels, working meticulously to ensure that these would be safe for the children to enjoy for years to come. Head teacher, Edy O’Connor, said: “Thank you so much for installing our tyre tunnels – they look fantastic and I know the children will love them. Please pass on our thanks to everyone involved.” Oliver Beech, Environmental and Communities Advisor at Skanska said: “The team took great pride in its work, ensuring that a positive impression would be left on the school. Thanks to everyone involved and a special thank you to Lynch who loaned us a one tonne excavator for the weekend.”

Continued expansion to the Lynch Telehandler fleet
Lynch plant hire has taken delivery of 45 telehandlers so far this year. This is all part of our ongoing growth programme for 2016. “We have seen an increase in the demand for this type of product in the UK market over the past 18 months” commented Head of Sales Steve Sutch. We are always looking to see what is the next big thing in the UK hire market or where we need to listen to our customers and supports the right products for their requirements moving forward. We have also seen an increase in the amount of sites using telelhandlers for different
applications. Road sweeping, dust suppression, scabbler are just a few of the attachments available for the range of fork lifts. The 45 machines covered the full range of 4m, 6m, 9m 12m 14m & 17m telehandlers. The 6m machines were bought from Manitou and all the others were supplied by JCB. We are really pleased to be taking in the JCB product, this has proved to be strong, reliable and value for money with great return when coming to sale in the second hand market.
Recognition & Rewards
Paul Caruana, Lynch’s Central Stores Manager, joined the business just a few months ago. In that time he has worked tirelessly to reduce excess stock held nationally. To date he has secured over £5000 of credits with some of our key suppliers who have agreed to buy back obsolete stock. In recognition of his hard work and noting that he is expecting the birth of his 5th child he was presented with Mothercare vouchers. We wish Paul and Jody the very best with the looming birth of their new daughter. Hemel Hempstead headed up by Luke LeCoyte were judged to have prepared their machines to the highest standards for July. Luke took the time to personally inspect machines prior to hire. Our thanks go to Luke and his team that clearly went the extra mile. For his efforts and that of the depot, Luke was presented with some Amazon vouchers.
Craig Long (North London Haulage operations) has been rewarded for cross selling plant hire services. When speaking with a new Haulage customer he asked them “Do you need any Plant on your sites?” to which the customer replied that they needed 2 dumptrucks and 2 excavators. The machinery has been delivered and the customer is delighted that we have taken care of all their site needs with one call. If you too wish to be recognised for going the extra mile or would like to nominate a colleague forward the details to merrill@l-lynch.com.
