Lynch step in to lend a hand to DIY SOS
Where have we been? Our 14 tonne excavator is working for CVB at Chambers Wharf on the Thames Tideway. The current scope of work includes preparing the area ready for the concrete batching plant to be erected. Eventually this batching plant will provide the concrete required for the tunnel shaft.

First 50 tonne Volvo for L Lynch Plant Hire
Lynch Leader - Oct 16
L Lynch Plant Hire of Stanmore Middlesex has invested in their first of many 50 tonne Volvo excavators in the guise of an EC480E.
The new arrival has been put straight to work on a long term hire contract for an east of England civil engineering company on harbour development work at Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. It joins in excess of 30 items of plant on the site which includes 14 and 21 tonne Volvo excavators – all on hire from Lynch. “We have been buying Volvos for the last 13 years,” says Lynch’s National Service Manager Giles O’Sullivan-Wade. “There is no doubt that it is a solidly built, premium product, which always rewards us with strong residual values. Our operators and our customers’ operators appreciate them too and we find them to be very fuel efficient and highly productive.” The Stage IV Final 13 litre engine, featured in EC480E develops 378 nett
hp and is ideally matched to its automatic sensing mode hydraulic system. The machine’s hydraulics are perfectly matched to the engine and are controlled by an advanced system which provides on-demand flow and reduces power losses within the circuit. Volvo’s unique ECO mode contributes up to 9% of the machine’s total improved efficiency over the D model – without any loss of performance in most operating conditions. As well as improving fuel efficiency, this increases controllability for more precise performance. Otherwise, Volvo’s integrated work mode system offers the operator a choice of five work modes according to the task in hand – I (Idle), F (Fine), G (General), H (Heavy) or P (Power max) – for
optimum efficiency and machine performance. When the controls have been inactive for a pre-set amount of time, the excavator can be programmed to automatically reduce engine speed or even shut down to further reduce fuel consumption and noise. Operators can keep track of both current and average fuel consumption via a simple gauge in the cab.

In order to satisfy a whole range of hires ranging from bulk muck shifting to rehandling and even secondary demolition duties L Lynch Plant Hire has deliberately specified the EC480E to a high standard. “We wanted to maximise the full potential of this significant investment so have ordered the machine with a host of optional extras,” continues Giles. “For instance, we’ve specified X3 grab rotation for handling rotating selector grabs and other attachments requiring an additional hydraulic service; full boxing ring style guarding on the canopies; a 360º Brigade Elite camera system for all round visibility; mass excavation equipment and hydraulic quick fit for fast inter-changeability of end attachments. Thus configured the machine will be
able to satisfy the hire demands of our customers without exception.” Other features on the 50 tonne excavator a include hammer-shear circuit and quick fit hydraulics which come as standard and Lynch has added the immobiliser option as well as adding an Enigma tracker system. Volvo’s Care Track telematics system will allow Lynch to monitor the overall performance, fuel consumption and the way the machine is being operated remotely. Since the business was started in 1980, L Lynch Plant Hire has evolved to become a multi-faceted plant hire and haulage operation with a workforce of over 600 people in a nationwide structure. The firm meets demand from 9 depots including a
regional depot in Northampton, that takes care of the midlands, Bridgwater depot that takes care of the west and south west of England, a depot at Manchester manages the north and 2 satellite depots cover Wales and Scotland. There are also 4 London depots located at Stanmore, Dartford, Willesden and Hemel Hempstead. Volvo Construction Equipment markets wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, Volvo utility equipment and Volvo road equipment products in Great Britain. There are eight strategically placed customer support centres and a network of utility equipment dealers to ensure high quality customer support is maintained throughout the country.
Recognition & Rewards We would like to thank Emery for the exceptional work she has done in learning the process for certifying our machinery and keeping hold of the reigns so we do not drop the ball until Harry was up to speed. Emery has put in so long hours and juggled her own work load in order to make sure the business keeps its machinery compliant. A great example of a “Can Do attitude” A big well done to Jessica Tooley, who started with us 2 years ago as a Haulage Administrator with no prior knowledge of the industry, who has successfully developed within the Haulage Department and has last week started to go out selling for Lynch. On her first day visiting Customers, she pick an order up for 10 Grab loads of Muck Away. Keep up the good work Jess.

Recognition & Rewards
Steve Hurley joined us 01 August 2016, as Direct Solutions Administrator. Within this short period of time Steve has proven to be a valuable asset to the Direct Solutions team. So much so Steve has stepped up to take on the role as Hire Controller. Steve got stuck in and helped out on the Hire Desk when others were on holiday. He showed the willingness to learn and enthusiasm. Thank you to Steve for your “Can Do” attitude and congratulations on your new position within the team.
Tom Sheppard has been a great asset to Lynch not only has he got a great attitude and takes pride in his work, he also looks out for new work as well. Recently he has brought in Hiab work from Maziak and JST forklifts through people he knows. Tom has also trained as telehandler operator so can deliver the machine to site, operate it and return the machine back on his lorry. He is almost a one stop shop on his own. Ian Unthank has been rewarded for his “Can Do” attitude to the business. He has a great link between drivers and managers when drivers have any problems. Ian gets involved ensuring we resolve these to make sure our business runs smoothly. As and when required Ian has assisted in covering for the Hemel transport department at very short notice. Ian’s work ethics are outstanding and always willing to help staff at any depot in operational issues.
Special recognition is due to the core of Lynch’s Purchase Ledger department – Aisha Aslam and Surjit Bansal. Whilst picking up additional work, they have been training and supporting a brand new team, and still managing their own day-to-day workload. Aisha and Surjit have approached this challenge with professionalism and good humour, and Lynch are truly fortunate to have their ongoing support. Both Aisha and Surjit will be rewarded for their triumph in the face of adversity! Many, many thanks.
Charlotte has been with Lynch for 18 months, during this period of time she has never had a day off sick or been late, she is an asset to Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage she always goes over and above her duties to make sure that everyone gets paid. Her relationship with staff is very professional, and her rapport with the operators is exempt. Angie was off last month for a fortnight due to illness and during this period Charlotte processed all of the wages on her own, which I am sure some of you are aware is a mammoth task. We would like to thank Charlotte for her “Can Do” attitude.
Balfour visit & a big “Thumbs Up”
We had a number of office based people attend the day in Sheffield. lynch were keen to firstly ensure they had a good understanding of our product offering and the benefits around 360 camera + Height and Slew restrictors. This was followed up with our "Thumbs Up" campaign and was extremely beneficial to all concerned. I think it was a strong commitment from Balfour to engage in raising awareness of Plant and for Lynch to have a machine present for all to visualise and improve there knowledge base. Last and not least was the simulator and this really drove home the importance of your surroundings when operating and simply how challenging the job can be. Great day had by all.
