We’re proud to announce that we’ve filled all the places in our inaugural apprenticeship scheme. Working in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board at Bircham Newton, we’re giving six aspiring plant operators, and plant fitters the opportunity to train with us as apprentices. The scheme will be set out over two years with time both spent at the CITB training college and real working sites. Our apprenticeship scheme is the first of its kind, and one that is desperately needed by the construction industry in the UK. Our National Operator Manager, Liam Moore, was instrumental in setting up the scheme and recruiting candidates for this year. He speaks

passionately about the need and the demand for construction apprenticeships. The scheme generated a huge amount of interest, most of which are 17 or 18. These apprentices will share their time between our premises in Dartford, and the National Construction College in Bircham Newton. The apprenticeship lasts for two years, at the end of which the recruits will become full time, newly-qualified Lynch employees.

weeks at college to give them the basics required to work out in the industry. We are pleased that all passed out through this part of the course and went on to work on live construction projects. This is the hardest part of the apprenticeship when they have to put all the skills acquired at college to use on a real site. I am personally really pleased with the performance of our year two’s and look forward to what they will go on and achieve. The students will return to college to complete their NVQ’s after Christmas, they all currently have weekly one to one meetings with me along with site inspections by the business and college. The first group will complete the course in November 2017. For more information please contact National Operator Manager Liam Moore - LiamM@l-lynch.com

DS Project Completed, ahead of programme and budget!

The sea wall and rail project has now been completed and the line went back into full service on Monday 5th September 2016 ahead of programme and under budget. On New Year’s Eve 2015 our emergency crews were called out by our client Costains to support the urgent works required at Dover, Kent. A large section of the sea wall had been damaged by strong gales and very storms. The wall had broken away and left huge gaping holes along the track. Due to the amount of damaged caused the nearly 2 miles of track needed major works. Lynch Plant hire supported the operation from start to finish. Our first job was to build a rock armour wall on the beach to stop the full force of the waves hitting the damaged wall. We moved over 24,000 tonnes of rock from the harbour to the beach along will filling the sinks holes along the coast. This section of works was completed by 4 x 40 ton excavators, 2 x 50 ton excavators, 12 ADT 30 ton Dump trucks and 1 x D6 Dozer. The wall was completed within 59 days running shifts 24 hours, 7 days per week. Lynch also removed all the track and ballast from the site and made the piling mat suitable for the rigs both weighing in over 150 tonnes each. Our

job went on to support the piling operation and removing the spoil from the site via the trains provided by the client. 132 piles were placed along the line and this section of the project was completed in 81 days. Once the rigs were clear from sections of the site we moved in to remove spoils and being building the huge concrete slabs required to support the trains and structure of the network. This work was carried out by a range of fully operate plant including 3 x 14 ton excavators, 2 x 25 ton excavators, 2 x 40 ton excavators, various dumpers, rollers and forklifts. Lynch Plant Hire also dispatched it’s full range of wheeled excavators from it’s rail division. These machines supported the project and were a real work horse both on the civil and rail works. Looking back at the project now we had over 20 operators on each shift 7 days a week. The project ran like clockwork from start to finish commented National Operator Manager Liam Moore. We really had to look at our resources and plant so the customer always got what they wanted. It’s tricky work when you are working on the beach at night and the pressures of the tidal work, having the limited time frame to be productive. So many good operators attend this

project over the past 8 months. This project has had a huge impact on the local towns of Dover and Folkstone, we worked really hard with the clients team on the site. The whole company gets behind our work commented Director Merrill Lynch. This is not just another hire, this is supporting a major project that has a huge impact with local residents and business. When the line was closed 1000’s of commuters were not able to travel into the city of London or get down to the port of Dover to catch their ferries to go abroad. We needed to put our full weight behind the project to ensure everything went to plan. We had a huge frontline operations team working around the clock along with all the support staff based at both South East Offices in Dartford, Kent and Head Office in North London. We had played our part in building a section of track which will serve the needs of the area for the next 200 years. I am really proud of the Lynch team and this is a great example of meeting hire demands. On the opening day of the line Lynch Plant Hire was given a special award for it’s services to this project. We have copied this award and displayed it across both offices , so all our staff can be proud of the part they played in this major project.

Chris Heyes the Senior Engineer supporting Depot North West has recently put his negotiation skills to the test and secured racking for the new Plant stores free of charge. By being prudent Chris has saved the business a great deal of money. His efforts are thanked and he is rewarded with a bonus of £150. Well done Chris and keep up the good work.

Andreas Susanu is the Service Coded Welder in Stanmore supporting major repairs and fabrication to machines, attachments and buckets. He has been awarded Operative of the Month for his dogged and relentless approach to excellence and safety. He battles daily with changing priorities but never has he allowed this to deter him from ensuring his repairs are of the highest quality. Recently he was asked to fabricate a very specialist bucket and despite his immense workload he built it to a very high standard and ahead of time. He is a very popular member of the Service team and highly respected by all. He goes about his work with ruthless efficiency and can be utterly relied upon. He is cheerful and upbeat and is an outstanding example of someone that understands the importance of teamwork; he is a ‘Can Do’ person. For his commitment to safety and excellence tied to a first rate work ethic Andreas’ award is richly deserved and one that both Giles O’Sullivan-Wade (National Service Manager) and Sean Hegazey (Stanmore Major Repair Manager) were very proud to present. Well done Andreas. Vasile has been with us 5 years and is always punctual and hardworking. He is outside in the wash bay in all conditions and never complains, his " can do attitude" makes him a valuable asset to the company.
