DISC GOLF COURSE Montgomery County Parks & Recreation has a 38-hole Disc Golf course for you to enjoy. This is a very unique course that consists of wooded fairways, with a variety of elevation gains. This course is the 5th largest east of the Mississippi! The course is free to play; all we ask is that you take out what you bring in. If you have any questions, give us a call at (540) 382-6975. Before you play The Rules: Throw a disc from tee to target over each hole of the course in the fewest throws. Each throw after the tee shot is addressed as a stroke from the lie of the previous throw. Discs thrown over fencing or stuck in a tree at least six feet high are considered a penalty stroke. Par for each 19-hole course is 57. Remember to yield to trail users when crossing paths. Have fun and good luck! The Map: Follow the map (next page) through each 19-hole course - Golden Bear (blue line) or Black Bear (green line). The Scorecard: If you want to make it competitive - or you’re just curious how you compare to those pro disc golfers! - take a scorecard (on the back of the map) on the course with you.

Maintain your lawns and gardens >> Save $$$ and improve water quality! Lawn and garden activities can result in sediment, nutrient and bacterial contamination of stormwater through soil, pesticide and fertilizer runoff. These pollutants impair our streams. Proper landscape management can effectively reduce water use and fertilizer and pesticide costs - while improving the health & beauty of your lawn and landscape!
REDUCE WATERING NEEDS Use mulch to improve the health of your lawn & garden. The County Solid Waste Authority provides mulch to County residents: www.mrswa.com
MINIMIZE FERTILIZER USE Use slightly composted leaves in your landscape. Blacksburg & Christiansburg provide these! Check town sites for info on free leaf pick-up: www.blacksburg.gov & www.christiansburg.org
TEST YOUR SOIL This will identify needs & help you avoid wasteful spending on unnecessary additives. Find more info on Virginia Tech’s State Soil Testing Lab: www.soiltest.vt.edu
MOW LAWNS PROPERLY Set mower blades 2-3 in. high. The longer grass will take in more sunlight, which leads to a thicker, healthier lawn with deeper roots that can better survive drought, disease & insect damage.
