After missing out for two years in a row, which caused a little bit of heartbreak, we are ready to put on a wonderful event to celebrate 25 years of the show. This year’s Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show has been on the table for more than 18 months, as — despite some fairly creative attempts to have a show in 2021 — we unfortunately still had to cancel. However, the wait will be worth it — with a normal program scheduled for June 2022 and some fantastic
entertainment. If you haven’t before attended the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show then 2022 is the year for you! Come along to view more than 200 of Australia’s best show and shine trucks, many fabulous show utes and custom rods. And for the regular attendees, we are excited to welcome new trucks, utes and rods, never before seen at the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show. In addition to the wonderful display of vehicles you will find one of the best woodchop competitions in Victoria and the always interesting model truck display. Visitors to Alexandra will be able to experience the local region while walking through the trade sites and local shops, with fabulous retail shopping opportunities and food available. The atmosphere in Alexandra for the weekend is exhilarating and it will be one to remember. The efforts of the local community groups and traders provide ample
opportunity for all locals and visitors to have a fabulous weekend in a beautiful part of the country. I would like to recognise and thank the generous sponsors and industry partners of the 2022 Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show who have provided us with ongoing support during the past two years. It is their dedication which has allowed the show to continue as a free annual event for locals and visitors. Please enjoy the long weekend at the 2022 Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show and show your support to the passionate entrants who present their immaculate vehicles and to our local traders. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a die-hard truck show go-er, it is my pleasure on behalf on the committee to welcome you, your friends and family to help celebrate 25 years of the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show. – Ayden Embling Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show chair

Sunday, June 12 Four-time Golden Guitar award nominee Paul Costa will perform at the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show.
Simply Bushed is looking forward to playing at Alexandra again on June 12.
A little bit country, a whole lotta entertainment Music is a big part of the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show, and hitting the stage this year are two fabulous acts — four-time Golden Guitar award nominee Paul Costa and band Simply Bushed. Paul has released five studio albums during his career and his latest Whisper In The Crowd, produced by ARIA award-winner Matt Fell, debuted at number six on the ARIA Country Albums Chart and number three on the ARIA Australian Country Albums Chart in 2017. It was also named Album of The Year at the 2018 People’s Choice Awards in Tamworth. Paul was inducted into the Australian Country Music Hands of Fame in January 2018, the South Australian Country Music Hall Of Fame in June 2019 and was a finalist for Male Artist of the Year at the 2018 CMC Awards.
Always the consummate showman, Paul has built a reputation as one of the most energetic live performers in Australian country music, with performances at major events including Gympie Muster, Deni Ute Muster and Birdsville Races. He has also been part of forces entertainment performing for Australian troops in East Timor in 2008 and Iraq in 2019 As well as recording duets with James Blundell, Amber Lawrence and Aleyce Simmonds, he has written numerous songs with award-winning songwriters including Drew McAlister, Allan Caswell, Sara Storer, Matt Scullion, Gina Jeffreys, Adam Harvey and Tamara Stewart. Simply Bushed is looking forward to returning to Alexandra, having played at the show twice before. “We just love it — it’s a great gig,” band manager Paul Grierson said.
The music creates a fantastic atmosphere and backdrop to the show.
“Truckies are fair dinkum Aussies and that’s what we sing about, real Aussies.” Original music by this unique Australian music act has received widespread airplay and chart success in Australia and internationally, and the band has featured on the Country Music Channel. Having appeared at every type of venue from front bars in little country pubs to the largest country music festivals in
Australia, Simply Bushed has a universal appeal that defies demographics and has built up a loyal following over the years. From the Tamworth Country Music Festival in NSW to the Kempton Country Music Festival in Tasmania, Simply Bushed has attracted a swag of accolades including nominations as finalists for various Golden Guitars and people’s choice awards.
Small in stature, big on detail Now in its eighth year, the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show miniature truck display and competitions draw people from across the region. The models are accurate representations of trucks, with modellers going to enormous lengths to make them correct in every detail. Anyone can enter the competitions, with the six classes expected to attract about 100 entries. Winners in each category are chosen by popular vote and trophies will be awarded for best bob tail, best open goods, best closed goods, best rigid and best logger. Organisers Andrew Kuipers and Frank Birthisel have also added an additional category — miscellaneous — this year. Andrew said the bobtail category was always popular but they expected a good showing for each category. He said truck drivers always enjoyed the miniature show and a number of current
and former truckies were also keen model makers. The models will be on show at Embling Rural, Grant St, from 10 am to 4 pm. Anyone wanting to enter the competition, can contact Andrew on 0428 318 052.
Models are correct down to the smallest details.

Remembering lost mates By Daneka Hill
‘Cookie’, ‘Moose’, ‘Eddie’, ‘Piano Man’, ‘96’, ‘Buffalo’ and ‘Gazza’. These nicknames have been carved into the metal of the Victorian Truck Drivers’ Memorial, where the names of trucking industry workers who have lost their lives on the job, or died after making a significant contribution to the industry, are recorded. For two years the memorial has sat unchanged due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but on June 11, district residents and family members will gather in Alexandra to install 28 long overdue names. Teagan Wallace’s brother, Callan, will be among the new additions. “He wasn’t in a truck, but he died on the road,” Teagan said. “That’s why I’ve became involved with the Victorian Truck Drivers’ Memorial Committee … it’s about remembering the people who’ve gone. “The committee also helps with grief counselling for the families and that’s how this (the memorial) all came about.” The committee is hoping that timing the ceremony with the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show will help draw a bigger crowd. “I encourage everyone to come down and pay your respects. The truck show is on Sunday (June 12) and we’re hoping the truck owners who arrive early will join,” Teagan said. The Victorian Truck Memorial was constructed by the Alexandra Truck, Ute
Teagan Wallace at the Victorian Truck Drivers’ Memorial in Alexandra. and Rod Show Committee in 2014 for the memorial committee. Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show and Victorian Truck Drivers’ Memorial committee member Andrew Embling said the amount of people who visited
the memorial throughout the year was amazing. “Any given weekend there are people there looking at it,” Andrew said. “It’s for any Victorian who’s died in the trucking industry.”
The memorial event will happen at Rotary Park in Alexandra, next to the visitors’ centre, on Saturday, June 11 at 2 pm.

Family fun for e As if the hundreds of trucks, utes and rods on display weren’t enough to keep the crowds entertained, there’s plenty of other things to see and do at this year’s Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show
From the music that kicks off at 10 am to the rides, raffle and auction, show ‘n shine and miniature models, the event will be a hive of activity. The official opening will take place at 12.30 pm with speeches from Murrindindi Shire Council chief executive officer Livia Bonazzi and show president Ayden Embling. Committee member Andrew Embling said between 80 and 90 items would be up for grabs at the auction, including clothing, sunnies, Blundstone boots, truck merchandise and car tyres. There will also be plenty of equipment such as spray tanks, gates, Eskies, Ampol racing team merchandise and, in perfect timing as we head into winter, a trailer of firewood offered.
The auction will take place at 2 pm at the main stage. At 3.45 pm the raffle will be drawn, with a $1500 first prize made up of a $1000 Foodworks voucher and a $500 Ampol fuel voucher. Second prize is a $500 Ampol fuel voucher and third prize a Blundstone boot voucher from Embling Rural. Tickets are $5 and will be on sale on the day at different spots around the show or next to the main stage. Sideshow alley is back again with the show bag factory, dodgem cars, bungee and a range of rides to suit all ages. As well as around 20 trade stalls, all Alexandra’s shops and cafes will be open. “There will also be the CWA, Lions and a range of other community and service groups offering a range of food and drinks,” Andrew said. “We know there are people coming from Brisbane, Adelaide — all over — it’s all shaping up to be an amazing event.”

They’ll work through the heats and into the finals throughout the day.” The event with the highest prize money for first place is the 300 mm Standing Block Championship, which offers up $500 to the victor. Hosted by the Central Victorian Axeman’s Association, activities start at 10 am and go until 3 pm (or whenever it’s all done) on the Sunday. The high octane ‘hot chainsaw race’ will start at 12 pm sharp for lunchtime attendees.

The Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show isn’t all about horsepower — it also hosts one of Victoria’s leading woodchop competitions.
With great prize money on the line plus two Victorian titles, the event attracts a large number of leading axe men and women from across the state. Local axeman Brad Meyer will be competing on the day. “I compete in most things but my favourites are the tree climbing and hot chainsaw race,” Brad said. “Those tend to be crowd favourites … it will be an action-packed day with a lot of axemen there.

Close encounter with a Supercar By Daneka Hill Supercar fans will be offered a chance to take pictures of (or a selfie with) a 2022 Supercar at the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show. The Red Bull Ampol team runs two identical Holden Commodore ZBs in the Supercar series. While those two burn rubber across the eastern seaboard, there is also a third ‘mock-up’ car which tours the country and gives admirers a chance to look at the latest #97 livery up close. The #97 car is a big deal among rev-heads, with driver Shane van Gisbergen winning the 2021 championship in the vehicle.

Excited to celebrate our region On behalf of Murrindindi Shire Council, I would like to acknowledge that the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show is held on Taungurung Country. We express our deepest respect for the Taungurung people who are the Traditional Owners of the land on which we stand. We pay our respects to their leaders and Elders past, present and emerging, for they hold forever the memories, traditions, culture and hopes of all Taungurung people. We express our gratitude for the sharing of this land, our sorrow for the personal, spiritual and cultural costs of that sharing and our hope that we can now walk together in harmony and the spirit of reconciliation. After a two-year interruption due to COVID-19, Murrindindi Shire Council is incredibly excited to celebrate 25 years of the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show this year. The long weekend in June has long been associated with the sight of trucks, utes and rods lining the streets of Alexandra for this big event. If anyone was in any doubt before, the past two years have shown how vitally important the transport industry is to the quality of life we all enjoy. It is the backbone of our economy. COVID-19 presented many challenges for the industry, with border restrictions, testing requirements and driver shortages. I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to express our appreciation for the efforts of drivers, transport operators, and freight and logistics workers who have kept critical supplies moving across the country during this difficult time — and at every other time. Trucks are responsible for providing food and supplies to your local supermarket, medicines and vaccines to our pharmacies and fuel to your local service station. It’s important that we come together as a community to celebrate the critical role these essential workers play in our lives.
Murrindindi Shire Mayor Sue Carpenter and Deputy Mayor Damien Gallagher are excited to welcome Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show visitors to the region. This event is also a great opportunity to showcase the beautiful town of Alexandra and the wonderful Murrindindi Shire as a whole. This event attracts a significant number of visitors to our shire and will provide a much-needed boost to local businesses, tourism operators and the community. Council is a very proud supporter of the Alexandra Truck, Ute and Rod Show. The continued popularity of the event is a huge credit to the event organisers, community groups and businesses involved in the planning, set up, promotion and running of the event. A great deal of preparation goes into making the show a success and there is much hard work in bringing it all together. Each year the event committee strives to make the show bigger and better and this year is no exception. I also see how much joy these trucks, utes and rods bring to people — I think that’s very special too. There’s nothing quite like coming together with a community of people who share your passion! If you’re visiting the area for the weekend, make sure you check out our Discover Dindi channels, including Facebook and Instagram, or visit discoverdindi.com.au for inspiration on how you can make the most of your stay. There are a variety of attractions and activities on offer for the whole family. I hope locals, and visitors to our fabulous region, have a wonderful long weekend! – Sue Carpenter Murrindindi Shire Mayor
