Agribusiness Open to any business (viticulture, horticulture, dairy, livestock etc) providing goods and/or services within the primary industries, or who value add to agricultural products. We are proud to sponsor the agribusiness category as we believe it’s important to support and recognise the achievements of local businesses that foster and enhance the agribusiness sector. Our processing plant in Tongala is dependent on the viability of agriculture in this region. - HW Greenham and Sons Joint Managing Director, Grant Ryan.

Finalists Claas Harvest Centre Claas Harvest Centre Echuca was established in April 2009 and is owned and managed by Brendan and Marcella Caffery. Since that time, it has grown to a team of 13 staff who are experienced, well trained and motivated. The business focuses on providing service and support that exceeds customer expectations, with 24/7 service and parts available. Its biggest achievement would be starting a new business from nothing during an extremely tough period in agriculture and growing it to the size it is today.

Kagome Australia Kagome, Australia’s largest tomato processing company, is all about delivering a high quality product from paddock to plate. Kagome, which has been delivering tomato-based products since 1996, grows, harvests and processes its own tomatoes in Echuca. CEO John Brady said the business’ success was being involved in the whole process, from start to finish. It has achieved global accreditation which has allowed the business to recently receive its first export order (to India).

Restdown Wines With a 450-hectare beef cattle farm, 17ha vineyard and winery, Restdown Wines has diversified into an on-farm tourism operation with a cellar door and wetland walking trail open to visitors. It focuses on chemical-free, sustainable farming with the use of native pastures, water conservation and management through the use of drip irrigation, water monitoring and recycling, and a holistic approach to farming.

WiSA Irrigation Giving farmers more free time and helping them get a better return on their crops are just some of the achievements of WiSA Irrigation. Starting from humble beginnings in Torrumbarry in 1996, WiSA has gone from a small familyrun business to a multi-national business. Despite the growth, every WiSA system is still made from its head office in Echuca, where it started nine years ago. WiSA creates central irrigation-control components for fully-automated irrigation systems, probes and sensors, sewerage treatment units and water recycling equipment.

We are pleased to encourage the entrepreneurship of the new business category, for it is from this entrepreneurial spirit that Mawsons began in 1912. Finalists Infinity Health Club Russell and Tara Jarrett opened Infinity Health Club in Kyabram in January, with a vision of providing a high-end health and fitness facility. The couple, who operated similar businesses in Melbourne, wanted it to be more than just a gym, by incorporating physiotherapy, beauty therapy and eventually pilates, as well as having a wellequipped and expertly serviced gym. Infinity Health Club prides itself and drives its business through its catch phrase ‘service, support and style’. Its biggest achievement has been to expose health, fitness and training to people of Kyabram who have rarely stepped inside a gym before. Many members have and continue to achieve outstanding physical change for the better. The gym also has two physiotherapists on-site, becoming the first private physiotherapy clinic in the town.

Perricoota Station Mark Evans’ multi-million dollar transformation of Perricoota Station has seen it become a tourist and wedding destination. Existing materials were re-used to convert old and derelict buildings into a modern functioning business. The historic homestead is now used for functions, ceremonies and accommodation and the old packing shed has been turned into a restaurant. The restaurant has recently had a new addition, with a fully suspended deck installed and cantilevered over the Murray River bank. Perricoota Station also holds tours through the property, explaining its history. The business prides itself on being an upmarket tourist venue, offering high end services and fine dining in the restaurant. The ratio of staff to guests is 1:12.

American Hotel The American Hotel underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment which began in February 2012 and was completed in January. Owners Don and Dean Oberin said reinventing the hotel had been a long-held dream of theirs. Wanting to give people a unique experience, the venue was designed to combine elements of the pub’s history and local environment with modern inspirations. People can entertain themselves in many ways, with the ground floor having a public bar and lounge bar, which face onto a north-facing courtyard and alfresco area, as well as state-of-the-art stainless steel kitchen and gaming area with 42 poker machines. Upstairs is another bar, lounge area and kitchen, with access to an outside deck area and rooftop bar.

The Splendid Word The Splendid Word was established in early 2011 by Christy O’Brien and Leonie Canham following discussions with local businesses about their lack of time and skill to properly tell their story and sell their message. As journalists, they use their combined media skill set and shared love of language to provide a high-class communications service to clients across the region. Their portfolio includes writing and directing documentaries, managing organisation rebranding projects, conducting email etiquette workshops, compiling corporate style guides, communication strategies, social media strategies, media releases, media launches, speech writing, website copywriting and annual reports. Their biggest achievement is dreaming big and following their passion to establish a successful niche business which is family friendly and works around their busy lives.

Waterpool Co-operative The Falcon Hotel on the Murray Valley Highway, 20km east of Echuca, played host to one of the most important meetings for the future of irrigation in northern Victoria. Within 12 days of the meeting, $250,000 had been pledged by 50 people putting in $5000 each. Ten months later, Waterpool has more than 500 ordinary members. Waterpool has been established to provide transparent and ethical water trading for all water users. Based in Kyabram, it is governed by a co-operative constitution whose membership base are the shareholders of the company. Waterpool runs a pooled water exchange which matches any given number of sellers to any given number of buyers in a system where the market drives the price. Waterpool and its expert traders also lists buy and sell offers and uses its website to promote permanent trade offers.

She began using Facebook to process online requests from local and interstate buyers, but with such a high demand Sharon stopped taking orders, allowing her creative pieces to flow. The 29 year old hand-crafts up to 100 earrings on a weekly basis and hopes to achieve her goal of creating her own jewellery store.
