WALKING DOWN THE AISLE DOESN’T HAVE TO FOLLOW TRADITION. bride and groom
A grandparent is a special option as they can play an important part of your upbringing and may have had to step up to assume a role of your Peopleparent.choose their grandparents to walk them down the aisle as it can be special for all involved.Itcanalso give people a moment that they can cherish forever. If your grandparent has physical limitations, you can cater for this by having them in front of you for a short walk or meet them at the alter where they can pass your hand to your partner’s.
If you where adopted, then of course it is appropriate to have them walk you down the aisle.Ifthere will be an awkwardness because your biological parents may be in attendance, you can explain the situation or try get them involved in the process. Get creative as not everyone has the traditional family set-up; if it means having several people walk you down the aisle, then so be it.
FATHER OR FATHER-LIKE FIGURE
If you’d like to be traditional and choose a father or father-like figure, it is a perfect one if you have a great relationship with them. But for those people who don’t have a father, they don’t have to forgo tradition. If there is a man that has raised you or mentored you throughout your life (step-dad, grandfather, family friend, etc) you may choose them to fulfil the fatherly role.
ADOPTED PARENTS
An extended family member may be an easy choice for you. You may have a close relationship with an uncle, aunt or cousin and may want them to give you away. It is a bit of a different choice, but if you feel closer to them than anyone else then you’re right to make that choice.
GRANDPARENTS
Who is the right person to walk with you down the aisle and give you away to your partner?Atraditional wedding sees the father of the bride walk her down the aisle and hand her off to the groom. This practice is old fashioned and has evolved since then, with many modern day couples seeing it as a symbol of love and support. There are many who believe your father should walk you down the aisle, but this day is about you, so that decision is ultimately up toToyou.help you decide, we’ve given you options so you have all the information to make a decision.

// 7
MOTHER
If you don’t feel any of these options are right, and you’d like to walk alone, then that is fine as well. After all, you’ve been involved in the whole process so who better to give yourself away, than yourself. At the end of the day, go with your instincts and what feels natural to you in who should walk you down the aisle.
WALK IT YOURSELF
Your mother can be an obvious choice, especially if you have a very close relationship. This option can be even easier if she has been very involved with the process of your relationship.Choosingsomeone that is close to you and your relationship is important. But if you can’t decide, you can choose to have both your parents.

STORY: DYLAN BROWN START YOUR OWN TRADITION
Monica McQuitty from love by shae photography believes that your special moments are best captured naturally.
“This skill is only acquired after years of experience and that is why getting a professional is an investment not an expense.
Important moments like your first kiss as a married couple or swaying to your first dance shouldn’t be forced or staged for photos.
The blue hour comes just after the golden hour, where the sun slips just below the horizon.
“We don’t believe in practised poses or mock-ups,” she said.
“I love getting to know my couples and they have a lot of fun in front of the camera.
Monica spoke about how she helps couples plan their day and that light is a big consideration when it comes to wedding photos.
“The best photos of those key moments are taken when you are swept up in the magic of your special day.” Monica likes to really get to know her couples to help them feel comfortable in front of the camera.
“I always consider how the light might impact their wedding photos,” she said.
“The time of year and the location of the event can also impact that.”
She believes having a professional makes it easier for couples as it lets them plan it how they want and the photographer can organise it Monicaaccordingly.said having an experienced wedding photography professional who takes care of their couples was what they deserve and it minimises the stresses on the day.
The ‘first look’ is where the couple plans to see each other before the ceremony and allows them to have a moment together in a private“Traditionally, setting. couples don’t see each other until the ceremony, but the private prequel is becoming popular, particularly outside of daylight saving,” Monica said.

“Just with everything else that happens on the occasion, timing is everything.”
“Capturing all those memories has been elevated to an art form by professional photographers,” she said.
“You only get one shot at your wedding and a professional photographer always gets the shot.” IN THE MOMENT COME FROM BEING IN THE MOMENT YOUR SPECIAL DAY.
“The couples feel relaxed and natural which in turn will show in your images.” She spoke about breaking down the perfect times for wedding photos, which comes down to two choices — the golden hour or the blue“Thehour.golden hour is just before sunset where the sun is low in the sky, which bathes the wedding party in its warm light. “It’s a brief opportunity, that is timed almost down to the Professionalssecond.”likeMonica call this the “magic moment”.

“The last fingers of light create the perfect backdrop for silhouette settings and that indirect blue light which will bathe the scene in the softest of natural lights.
“If couples have a later ceremony, then I check to see if a ‘first look’ could be an option so that their photos have enough light.”
AND TRULY EXPERIENCING
“Both of these moments come and go very quickly, so this is the only time we have to be really ready to go to get the shot.
Knowing in advance when the light will change, Monica said, was integral to ensure her couples aren’t rushing on their special day to keep up with the light. She loves creating photos and capturing moments for couples to look back on forever. “I’m obsessed with capturing the memories that mean the most to my couples and turning them into beautiful images they can re-live forever.

“We often do a ‘recovery breakfast’ the next morning out on the deck, that’s become quite popular,” Kalli said. The Timbercutter Restaurant has been closed for the winter months, reopening at the beginning of September.
Kalli Crump and her partner Joel Smith have transformed a stretch of bushland just 10km from Mathoura into a venue that has been a wedding favourite since opening.
If inclement weather threatens to dampen the big day, weddings can be moved onto the deck“Thearea.arbour overlooks both the Murray and the Edward River, it’s right on the junction of the two rivers,” Kalli said. “People can get married up on the deck, which we haven’t had to do yet — touch wood — but there are two big deck areas overlooking the river if we need to.”

Couples are often taken away from their wedding celebrations, their venue and — mostly importantly — their guests, to take the all-important wedding portraits, but this is not a hurdle faced at the Timbercutter. Photographers and couples alike will be spoilt for choice, with plenty of scenic locations at their fingertips including the historic red gum bushland surrounding the restaurant.“Youdon’t have to travel too far for photos,” Kalli said.
“A lot of couples come up to the big sandhill here and have sunset photos all on the same property, and they can have photos through the bush here.
The Timbercutter restaurant is an allinclusive venue, and nearby accommodation providers mean an easy and safe trip home at the end of the night.
“We’ve had stylists come through, but a lot of people don’t do a lot of additional styling because it’s all so natural.”
“Our caravan bar is a popular one,” Kalli said. “A lot of people are having cocktail hours at the ceremony site down on the lawn first before they come up to the more formal setting.”Forthose staying nearby — or those who celebrated a bit too hard the night before — the Timbercutter Restaurant can keep the celebrations going into the following day.
“There’s accommodation as close as across the road from us, which is nice along the river,” Kalli said.

Your wedding day is one of the most important and exciting things you will get It symbolises the beginning of your journey together and no better way to kick it off than to arrive in style. On this day you and your partner are the stars of the show and you want to ensure your entrance on the day is grand, memorable and fits your individual style. No wedding should be the same, from the venue, to the reception or the bridal party. The entire event is a reflection of who you and your partner are as a couple. Here are some ideas of how to arrive on your special day.
Give your wedding a royal vibe by arriving in a horse and carriage just like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Nothing is more Disney princess-like than arriving in a horse and carriage and the slow gentle travel can help relieve your nerves before walking down the aisle.

Vespas have become a trend recently and will give your wedding a European vibe. They also come in a variety of different colours so you can choose one that fits your colour scheme.

WEDDINGS DON’T
AS
They have known each other for a very long time and are school sweethearts, as they attended both primary school and secondary schoolJacquitogether.saidthe couple enjoyed the scenery being on the Murray River and having a small wedding with those there that they love dearly. “We culled our wedding list down to 60 guests mainly due to COVID restrictions,” Jacqui said. “It made the ceremony so intimate and the moment more special.” Jacqui said what the couple enjoyed most about having a small guest list was it gave them the ability to go around and speak to everyone.“Ireally enjoyed being able to go around and have a lengthy conversation with everyone which would be pretty difficult to do with a massive guest list,” she said. “It was very difficult having to cut back on the guest list as we had people who we ideally wanted to be there.” Jacqui said she couldn’t have asked for a better day for their wedding day. “The weather was just perfect, we were on the river and everything just fell right into place. “Relief that it was happening, the hot weather and there were a few little nerves as I walked down the aisle.” The couple also chose the luxurious M.V. Mary Ann because of the picturesque views of the Murray and the greater chance of the event going ahead with it being in NSW.
BE
“At the time when we booked, things where more relaxed in NSW and with the Mary Ann on that side, it was a safer bet to book it with them,” Jacqui said. “I know what I want, it was more the stress of whether we would go into lockdown and the event would go ahead.”Thehouseboat is two levels which provided a different dynamic for a wedding. The ceremony was held upstairs on the second level and the formal dinner was downstairs.Laterinthe evening the top level became the dance floor, so those who wanted to sit and talk stayed on bottom level.

Both into waterskiing, Ryan was in town with friends and Clare was with family when they first crossed paths at The American Hotel. They have a shared love for the outdoors and are very active people, which was represented on their wedding day as they had both the ceremony and reception outdoors.“Idon’t think I could imagine us being married anywhere else but in the outdoors,” Clare said. “We just loved it. “Two of my bridesmaids where pregnant and one was my sister who was nine months pregnant at the wedding, so it was lucky she didn’t have the baby till a week later. “I feel like the luckiest person in the world. “It was meant to be, but I feel for so many brides that had to cancel and I feel very thankful we got to keep our original date.”

Riverside is the first option for your ceremony.Makeyour vows overlooking the Murray River on a beautiful deck framed by gum trees. Set up your reception alfresco and celebrate under the stars, or utilise the venue’s marquee to seat 80 to 200 guests. She said bohemian-style weddings were the on-trend forecast for summer. A soft colour palette complements this style and is the most popular during the warmer months. “Summer is very bohemian, we arrange a lot of quicksand roses and pampas grass.”Spring invites a bright pastel colour scheme to complement the ethereal celebration. “In spring there’s a lot of colour, weddings and events tend to be bright with pastel delphiniums and dahlias.” And for the ultra modern bride who may want to ditch the flowers all together, Bryants Buds has a new streamer display available to hire that is sure to add the glitz and glamour to your special day.

VENUE
The Murray River venue offers 63 rooms of accommodation for the happy couple and their guests pending availability, however courtesy buses are available to escort guests from their accommodation to the function. Best of all, the golf club’s commercial kitchen caters for all cuisines.“There’s not much we can’t do, anything the couple wants to have, we can cater,” Paul said. “From a two-course meal to anything the couple desires, we will do it.”
Rich River Golf Club is just the spot. Wedding venue, Tatalia, at Rich River Golf Club can cater to the most intimate wedding events for 40 guests to larger affairs of up to 280 guests.Rich River Golf Club’s Paul Lavers described the space as one of endless opportunities.Amemorable celebration among beautiful scenery is a possibility at Rich River Golf Club, as couples can opt to hold their ceremony overlooking the luscious green golf course and celebrate inside Tatalia in a world of luxury.“There’s the Main Room upstairs which has the ability to be set up for the wedding itself, but it can also be used after the ceremony for canapes and drinks before the bride and groom arrive,” Paul said.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that wide, open spaces are good for the soul. Perhaps that’s why we’re seeing so many couples flee the cities to tie the knot in regional areas where they can spend an entire weekend with their loved ones breathing in the smell of the fresh country air.
A range of wedding packages is available, which includes accommodation for the newly weds and the use of the private centre spaces; the perfect setting to capture the special moments. Paul said the venue was flexible and would put the needs of the couple first. “The options are endless of what we can offer. “From the moment the wedding starts, up until the end, everything is taken care of.” If you choose Rich River Golf Club to celebrate your love, beautiful memories and exceptionally warm service is a guarantee.

Find inspiration for the styling/theme of the wedding. Draw up a budget of how much you want to spend.
Register for gifts at your favourite department store — ideally one with an online ordering capacity for out-of-town guests. Book in rental companies if you need to rent anything for the ceremony or reception, such as decorations, chairs, tables, tents, sound equipment. If an engagement party is intended, plan this for the first few months after the engagement. Consider registering for gifts or putting gift suggestions (such as cash towards the honeymoon) on the invitation.
Delegate tasks: you can either plan the wedding yourselves, pay a wedding planner to do it, or delegate some tasks to loved ones you trust. Do the guest list as early as possible, as many bookings relate to this.
PLANNING 50 // bride and groom
4–6 MONTHS Design and order the invitations and place settings at the same time, to save money with a bundle deal.
THE IDEAL WEDDING PLAN CONGRATULATIONS, NOW YOU ARE ENGAGED AND YOUR WEDDING IS JUST 12 MONTHS AWAY! A YEAR CAN GO QUICKLY AND THERE ARE CERTAIN MILESTONES TO REACH ALONG YOUR PLANNING JOURNEY, SO BELOW IS A MONTH-BY-MONTH GUIDE OF WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE AND WHEN.
2 MONTHS
Pick a wedding date and time: select several options then check these with your venues, celebrant and important guests. Then book in the wedding ceremony venue, reception venue and celebrant.
8–10 MONTHS
6–8 MONTHS Send save-the-date cards, and specify whether children will or will not be invited.
12 MONTHS
Buy the bridesmaids’ dresses and buy or advise them on which type of shoes to source.
Start researching and trying on wedding dress options — and purchase or order in as soon as possible.
Call all key vendors to confirm arrangements, make payments, fill in any last-minute forms and submit required itineraries. Make personalised itineraries for the wedding party members and any other key wedding vendors, including the day’s proceedings with times and a list of key contact numbers, and nominate a person responsible for each key area on the day so vendors know who to talk to in case of an emergency. Also, organise someone to return any hired items the day after the wedding. Make a wedding program to be handed out to guests on the day. Do the reception seating chart and send to the wedding planner/decorator or related person.
Make bookings for the honeymoon, and renew passports if planning an overseas trip. Purchase bonbonnieres.
Do the final RSVP count and chase up any outstanding ones, then finalise catering numbers. Have the final wedding dress fitting, and bring the maid of honour along to learn how to bustle the dress. Have the dress pressed and store it neatly at home.
Buy jewellery. Start having dance lessons now for the formal dances. 3 MONTHS Mail the wedding invitations.
Plan the reception food/choose from menus and book in the caterer. Plan the styling of your wedding — and either start collecting the items you need, or pay a decorator to co-ordinate this. Make an order to the florist for the bouquets, boutonnieres, flowers for close family to wear and flowers for the venues.
Ask friends or relatives to be in the wedding party, such as bridesmaids and groomsmen, flower girls and pageboys, ceremony poem or prayer readers.
Book the ceremony entertainment (such as musicians or a DJ).
Buy the wedding rings. Buy or organise to rent the suits for the groom and groomsmen, and don’t forget the shoes. Buy any under-garments for the wedding dress before the final fitting, to ensure a streamlined look.
Book in the photographer and videographer.
1 MONTH
Plan the wedding cake and book in the cake maker. Hire wedding-day transport, such as limousines, vintage or other specialty vehicles. Book the hair and make-up artists for the whole bridal party, and have a trial one or two months beforehand.
Ensure every item is purchased for the bridesmaids’ and groomsmen’s outfits, right down to the shoes, jewellery/ cufflinks, undergarments and men’s socks.
Have the hen’s night and buck’s night. Write the wedding vows. Purchase thank-you gifts for parents and the wedding party. Apply for a marriage licence (your celebrant should be able to help with this).
Drop off the place cards, table numbers, menus, decorations and bonbonnieres to the person responsible for the wedding/ ceremony venue set-ups. Have any fake tan and manicure/pedicure appointments.
NIGHT BEFORE
Give a small memento to the wedding party members the night before, as a thank-you for their support. For bridesmaids, often this is some jewellery to wear at the wedding.
WEDDING DAY
If there is time, book in a relaxing massage for the late afternoon or early evening.
bride and groom
Double check that the wedding dress is crinkle-free; if not, organise a last-minute press.
Aim for a relaxing evening with key loved ones. Also ensure you are in bed early and don’t drink too much, so you are well rested for the wedding day.
Give wedding bands to the best man and maid of honour to hold during the ceremony.
Write and send thank-you notes to guests and helpful vendors.
The bride should get a haircut and colour. WEEK
Do a dress rehearsal with the wedding party to ensure everyone knows what to do, where to stand and when to walk.
Usually the table settings are done in the afternoon; double check these once complete and make any last-minute suggestions to the decorator.
You are well organised and the key people have been nominated as responsible for particular tasks/areas on the day – so now it is time to simply relax and enjoy the day yourself.
PLANNING
AFTER THE HONEYMOON
Confirm a final song list with the DJ or musician, and the songs for important moments – such as the walk-in to the reception, the first dance, the father-daughter dance, and the exit song for the end of the night – and an indication as to what time these should occur.
Give a list of essential photographs to the photographer, including any key family pics you want, to ensure you don’t miss out.
2 WEEKS
DAY BEFORE
// 51
Call all wedding vendors to re-confirm arrangements, ask for any last-minute details they require and make any final payments.
1
The groom and groomsmen should go for their final fitting and pick up their suits.
The groom should get a hair-cut.
