Start spreading the news – it’s show time

october 4

Fairy floss, spinning rides, livestock, cooking, showbags, competitions and loads of fun – it must be the 2014 Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show.

H

eld for one day only on Saturday, October 4, the Yarrawonga Showgrounds will come to life with all the sights and sounds of show time fun that locals and visitors alike have grown to love. The annual show is a fantastic day out for the very young to the more mature showgoer with a long list of competitions and events to enter or enjoy and a raft of entertainment.

The 131 year old event has forged a strong tradition of promoting agriculture to generations of local families. This year’s show will feature a full program of sheep and wool events and poultry categories, plus a raft of show jumping events. One event in particular that is garnering huge interest is the Recycle – Less Waste Fashion competition and it calls for entrants to design a fashion item made entirely from recycled waste. With a $1,000 first prize, $500 second and $250 set aside for third prize, competition will be fierce as designers dig through their recycle bins for any plastic, paper, card-

board, metal or scrap material they can get their hands on. The Horticultural Pavilion will be filled with entries in a variety of floral art categories both for ‘budding’ children gardeners and the more experienced of green thumbs. The Main Pavilion will have mouths watering with entries in cooking categories featuring muffins, scones, cakes, Pavlovas, lamingtons, shortbread, slices, plum puddings and Christmas cakes. Also housed under the Main Pavilion roof will be entries from crafty competitors in needlecraft, art, photography and woodwork. The kids are not forgotten with a Pet Parade, Colouring Competition, Miss Show

Girl Competition and the coveted award for the best decorated pushbike or scooter. The 2014 Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show kicks off at 9am with a bustling side show alley, live music, great food, a tractor pull and will culminate with a dynamic fireworks display.

There will be an array of entertainment on offer throughout the day including local bands, dance troupes and even martial arts demonstrations.

For more information on this year’s show or to enter any or all of the competitions pick

up a program at the Yarrawonga Chronicle,
