Pants Down Circus Rock is set to a pumping classic rock soundtrack with a wide range of circus acts from trapeze and acrobatics to juggling and hula hoops. Meet Nancy Browne in ‘Everything Must Go’.
T
hat’s the hook behind the fantastic comedy creation Everything Must Go from Rachel Leary and Regional Arts Victoria and headed to Eldorado, Whitfield and Milawa, presented by the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre. Eccentric and reclusive Nancy Browne has lived in the same house, the same Tasmanian valley all her life, but now the valley is changing. Farms are being sold and city people are moving in bringing with them new ideas and new ways. And now the farm has been sold. A developer has bought it and is going to create a new suburb ‘Perfect Ponds’. The wider world has encroached and Nancy has to make sense of it. She also has to move house. Directed by three-time Barry Award nominee Damian Callinan and performed by Rachel Leary, Everything Must Go is a comedic and poignant portrayal of a misfit finding her way. Set in Tasmania’s Huon Valley, the show explores the mixing of subcultures that occurs as city folk move into rural areas. It centres around Nancy Browne whose family has been living on the same farm for many years but now she must go. Charming and odd, Nancy draws out family stories from the items she is selling in her garage sale as well as highlighting her own original take on the world. She tells stories of the valley where she lives, her neighbours and the changes that are taking place. Everything Must Go will be showing at the Eldorado on Thursday, April 9, Whitfield on Friday, April 10 and Milawa on Saturday, April 11. For venue details and to buy tickets go to www.wangarattapac.com.au

The Man They Call The Banjo A musical based on the love-story of Banjo Paterson and Christina Macpherson and the composition of Waltzing Matilda will visit Yarrawonga in May as part of its world premiere tour.
B
ased on the book Waltzing Matilda – The Secret Story of Australia’s Favourite Song, written by Warrnambool resident Dennis O’Keefe, the musical shares the story of how Banjo and Christina crossed paths and the secret love affair that followed. After years of performing the well-known verse, Dennis, a folk singer, songwriter and historian was compelled to undertake the ground breaking research which inspired this new story behind Australia’s most famous song.
South East Australia, The Man They Call The Banjo makes its long awaited premiere as a fully choreographed and staged production. The show will visit Yarrawonga for a performance at the Uniting Church Hall on May 23. The performance features Chris Saxton as Banjo Paterson, Fleur Murphy as Christina Macpherson and Colin Driscoll as the Swagman. The local area has a special link to the story - Christina Macpherson was born at Peechelba Station, near Yarrawonga. As an infant, Christina reportedly provided the distraction her nursemaid needed to escape from the family home after it was Christina Macpherson. invaded by notorious bushranger Mad Dog Morgan. After two years of trials and 30 live read The nursemaid escaped, raised the alarm concerts in woolsheds and country halls in and ultimately Morgan was shot by a farm-

hand. Years later, Christina Macpherson travelled to Queensland with her family to visit her brother Robert. She stayed on Dagworth Station and
one evening recalled a tune she’d heard some months prior at the Warrnambool
Races and played it in the presence Banjo Paterson and his fiancé. From there, it is suggested a love affair started between the two and Banjo wrote Waltzing Matilda to the very tune he’d heard that night. The Yarrawonga performance of The Man They Called The Banjo is being hosted by the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Arts Council on Saturday, May 23.

t’s free entry to the lakes and you will be guaranteed to see talented skiers in all age groups compete in three different events; slalom, trick and jumps starting Thursday 2nd April and finishing Sunday 5th. Chairman of Tournament Water Ski Australia, Stafford Scott said the world class facility at Max Kirwin Lakes should produce some outstanding results from a large field of competitors with the potential of new Australian records being set. “We are delighted to have competitors from every State and Territory represented along with a large contingents of officials, family and friends,” Mr Scott said. Victoria will bring the largest team of 59 skiers, with large contingents also from NSW and SA. “It will be a great spectacle and entry is free to all,” Mr Scott said. “We have various food stall vendors on site providing a wonderful array of fresh and amazing meals and snacks. “I would like to thank our many sponsors in particular MasterCraft Boats who have graciously provided two state of the art world class tournament boats for the event.” The Max Kirwin Lakes, just a 15 minute drive west of Mulwala on the Tocumwal Road, provides the perfect setting for records to be broken. The custom built lakes course has hosted many major tournaments over the last 10 years including the World Disabled and Junior Skiing Titles.
Fresh from competing recently at Moomba many of the athletes will be looking to improve on their performances in Melbourne. Mulwala Water Ski Club CEO Peter Duncan is excited to be the hosting venue for the Australian Championships and is looking forward to seeing some spectacular skiing over the Easter break. “We are delighted that the host South Australian Club decided to bring the event to Mulwala to take advantage of our world class facility,” Mr Duncan said. “On behalf of the board we welcome all the skiers and their support crews, friends and families to Yarrawonga Mulwala.”
