Calendar Girls Based on an incredible true story, the Calendar Girls will feature at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on May 8.

W

hen Annie's husband John dies of Leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Woman’s Insti-

tute members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer, Lawrence. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.

Enjoy all the fun of the Calendar Girls at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre.

Based on the true story of eleven Woman’s Institute members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund, (part proceeds to Leukaemia Research) Calendar Girls opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre and has since become the fastest selling play in British theatre history. The director will be Ken James, well known for his many television roles including Skippy, The Box, Glenview High, Skyways, Sons and Daughters, and Good Morning Australia, with Bert Newton. In 2009 Ken was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, making this journey for him a very personal one, he is currently the spokesperson for this organisation. Part of the proceeds from the royalties will be paid to Leukemia and Lymphoma Research. Make sure you don’t miss out on Calendar Girls at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, May 8 at 10.30am. Tickets on sale now at www. wangarattapac.com.au or call 0357 228 105.

When Dad Married Fury The Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre presents David Williamson’s When Dad Married Fury on Friday, April 4.

S

parring brothers Ian and Ben are on their way to Sydney to visit their recently widowed father. Three big surprises are in store when they arrive at his 70th birthday celebrations. The ‘Old Man’ is worth $100 million. He’s gone and married Fury, an American beauty queen half his age and there’s no pre-nup. With his trademark wit and skilful blending of contemporary culture within the ageless framework of family greed, jealousy, love and expectation, Australia’s leading playwright David Williamson delivers another gripping play and his most memorable characters to date. Is there more to the beautiful Fury than meets the eye? Is Alan the father he thinks he is? Do

Ben’s loyalties lie with his wife, his dad or himself? Can Ian contain his greed long

enough to get a signature on the right will? And who is to blame for the death of Ben’s father-in-law? One thing is for certain: everything changed when Dad Married Fury.
