erformed at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre for one night only in November, this moving, inspirational and unforgettable theatre experience combines humour, real life stories, photos and filmed pieces to retell Do’s amazing story. Anh Do travelled to Australia from Vietnam in 1980 on an eight metre fishing boat with 47 other Vietnamese refugees. Sick with dehydration and one person already dead, the journey was the first of many struggles for a young Do, who overcame all manner of difficulties throughout his life to become a lawyer and, in 2008, Australia’s Comedian of the Year. Get set for Tunga 10,000 The 19th running of the iconic Tungamah Lions Club 10,000 takes place this coming Sunday, October 25.

A

O

ver the years runners from across Victoria and other states, as well as overseas athletes, have flocked to Tungamah to take part in this wonderful event and this year is no different. Organisers have also made some changes this year, with the 10km Fun Run being rejigged a little to ensure a full 10 kilometres. For 18 years, the course was believed to have been measured out correctly, however that may not have been the case and it now appears likely that Daniel Quinn’s record may never be broken. The winning male and female runners receive a handsome prize of $500, made possible by the event’s many sponsors. There is also a cash prize of $50 for the first unplaced veteran runner, male and female across the line and there is a prize of $250 for the first Tungamah male and female residents across the line, courtesy of the

GOOD

CMCU. In addition to all this, the two 10k winners receive the much valued Crawford Family sash, courtesy of Vicki and Simon Crawford. There is always the Road Safety Training Solutions 5 kilometre Fun Run for those who are a little daunted by the big one. This also is worth winning and has been a popular event in recent years.

Under 16 runners have a 3 km Fun Run, while there are some shorter races for younger primary school children. Following all that, spectators can enjoy the cycling events, attracting the best of the region’s veteran cyclists. Many of these riders have ridden in Sun Tours, the Melbourne to Warrnambool, six day races and some have won world championships. Others ride just for the fun of it, one such rider intending to start is Les Harrison. Music makes up a big part of the day and will feature DJ Peter Salt from Berrigan in the morning with a great mix of music and at 1pm popular singer/songwriter Callum Gleeson will take to the stage. Callum is a OneFM radio personality as well and is always welcome in Tungamah. Depending on entries, the 10,000 will also feature an amateur Talent Quest, with DV Sound offering a recording session as the major prize. Dog jumping, Harley rides, spinning wheels, raffles and auction add to the excitement of

the day. The very first Tungamah 10,000 was run in 1997, following a public meeting in the shire offices. The 10,000 has seen a lot of changes over the years with some success and continues to be a great event to this day. Over the years, the Hume Vets have taken over the cycling, and gradually locals such as Shane Hardinge and Les Harrison were lured into comebacks. This created a great deal of interest and cycling is strong in the area. Simon Crawford made his long awaited comeback and won the A Grade a couple of years ago. The Crawford family now sponsor a sash for each winner in male and female. The event would not be possible without the support of the clubs along the Murray and local businesses and the organisers hope it will continue for years to come. For further information call Les Harrison on 0357485682 or 0417301797.

Noiseworks to get rowdy at Red Hot Summer Australian rock legends Noiseworks are well reputed for their incredible live shows, adored by music fans and critics alike.

A

nd now Yarrawonga Mulwala gets a chance to see the band perform all their hits plus some new tunes at next year’s Red Hot Summer Tour (RHST). The Chronicle spoke with founding member and bass guitarist Steve Balbi recently about the band’s future plans and his excitement in touring with some Australian music icons. “The Red Hot Summer Tour means a lot to Noiseworks in a big way,” Steve said. “Our first national tour was with The Angels (who are also acts this time around) and our second tour was with Jimmy Barnes (the RHST headline act). “We have all been friends ever since and we really admire each other as people and as artists.” This is the second time around with the RHST for Noiseworks and Steve said the band had such a terrific time the first time they put their hands up for it again. “It really is good to give our music and to hear the younger generations enjoy our music,” he said. “We have another album out in 2016 so we will be trialling some of our new songs at the concert but of course we will be playing our old hits as well. “Hot Chilli Woman is certainly one of the most popular songs that we play.” Listening to other people’s music keeps Steve on his toes and he said he listens to everything from Bob Dylan to Bastille. “My favourite at the moment is Radiohead, they are just tremendous,” Steve said. “There are so many elements involved in making it in the business but the most important thing is to make the music that you love with the people that you love and don’t try to be something that you’re not. “There certainly isn’t any quick way to fame and there is a huge difference between a singer and an artist; always try to be an artist and give it everything you’ve got.” To hear Noiseworks give it everything they have got, the annual Red Hot Summer Tour is

once again bringing out an incredible line up of Jimmy Barnes.
