THE MUST DOs IN WAKOOL

1. The Wakool area is a popular spot for fishing as the Edwards, Niemur and Wakool rivers are all in close proximity. There are also a number of significant creeks that run via the town which are great places to fish for Murray Cod, Golden Perch (Yellowbelly), Silver Perch (Bream), Redfin (English Perch), freshwater Murray Crayfish and yabbies.

2. Take a stroll along the Wakool Soldiers Settlers Memorial Walk — a symbolic, community-driven trail that commemorates the nation-building work of former service people who settled Wakool and surrounding areas. The walk spreads out through the two small parks running from the Wakool Cenotaph at the meeting of Flinders, Cook and Dampier streets.

3. Experience the classic country hospitality of the local services club or drop into the Wakool Hotel — a popular stopover point for travellers.

4. Wakool River Camping area , about 9km out of town, is accessible to caravans and RVs and features an open, grassy area ideal for setting up a riverside camp. The nearby boat ramp makes it a popular place for campers and day-trippers to enjoy some fishing. Toilets are available, and you’re welcome to bring your dog.

5. Wakool Recreation Reserve is a great spot for free camping near town. The reserve has had a major upgrade in recent times, and features solar lighting and new coin-operated shower facilities. There is also a dump point for RVs.

6. Live like the locals and join in one of Wakool’s annual events , including the popular Fishing Classic, Wakool Sheep Races, Wakool Show or bowls tournaments.
