a bit of a dampener on that due to restrictions," she said.
All are housed at Hill Top, Tatura's very own golf and bowls hub.
"We used to have a lot of weddings here many years ago, although not so many in recent times as our bistro has been leased.
The country club has weathered the brunt of coronavirus, and has bounced back with renovations aplenty to welcome its patrons through the doors. This equates to one thing — all systems are go both on and off the links and rinks at the moment. "We underwent an internal refurbishment and replaced all the carpet," administrative manager Geraldine Pollard said. "It is so much more inviting; the members love it when they come in." COVID-19 has placed a clamp on the viability of hosting events at Hill Top of late. However, as restrictions continue to ease, one clear direction Ms Pollard flagged was a return to functions at 71 Gowrie St. "Every year we've always had lots of Christmas parties and events in general — clearly COVID-19 has put
"Over the last few years, we have taken back the bistro and we want to get back into that side of things. "Going forward we'd really love to get back into functions and weddings." While events were put on ice, golf has powered Hill Top through the tribulations of COVID-19. The introduction of an online booking system was a stroke of genius according to Ms Pollard, which allowed golfers contactless entry onto the course. Paired with a virtual scoring platform, players flocked to the links all year to keep the wheels turning at the country club. "We've been very blessed because we have our golfers," she said. "We implemented a system where our members could book online and didn't have to come in through the clubhouse.

"They also scored on their phones on a system called MyScore — that was fantastic. "That allowed all our golfers to come, play their golf and not have contact with the club, which was a real bonus for us." And as expected, there are no plans to slow down at Hill Top. An external primp-up is on the cards to account for the enlarged patron
base stemming from more guests on the greens. "We are talking a lot about extending our outdoor area and refurbishing that," Ms Pollard said. "We've got a lovely area out there, but we need it to be extended to accommodate all the golfers and bowlers. "That is definitely on the agenda going forward so hopefully we will get that going over the next 12 months."

Cafe is embracing the nightlife One Four One cafe is entering a new era.
final blueprint of her master plan came to fruition after a visit last month.
Since taking over the reins of the popular Hogan St haunt four years ago, Rita Bray has picked up on the thriving Friday night culture in Tatura.
"I went up to Billson's, and it was just screaming at me — it was exactly what I wanted to do here," she said.
Now she's ready to make the most of it. Starting tonight, Ms Bray will open One Four One's doors to customers until late on Fridays, housing a relaxed atmosphere for the public to enjoy at the week's end. "I'm operating from Tuesday to Saturday, but on Fridays I'm extending my hours from 5 pm to late (around 11 pm)," she said. "I just want to create a relaxed atmosphere where people can kick on after work. "Good wine, good company — that sums it up." Acquiring a liquor licence, One Four One now offers a selection of alcohol to go along with bar snack options. To bring it all together, Ms Bray has also rolled out an alfresco space with charm written all over it. Taking pages out of the book of Billson's Brewery in Beechworth, the
"I'd love to come to a place like this to catch up with friends. "The young ones will love it (here), and I think the oldies will too." Positive the town will buy into her vision, Ms Bray has plenty planned to turn One Four One into a little livewire. Cocktails, a larger lunch range, even a space for furry friends to play could be on the horizon soon.
One Four One cafe owner Rita Bray is opening her cafe until late on Fridays, establishing her eatery as a dot on Tatura's nightlife map. Pictures: Megan Fisher
But it all starts tonight, when doors stay open until late for the first time. "Out the back is amazing and if it really kicks off, it will pay for itself," Ms Bray said. "I have even thought of introducing a pet cafe out there, which would be really cute. "I also want to introduce more lunch options, we seem to lack that lunchtime buzz so to get that going would be great. "All in all it has got heaps of potential."
A range of Billson's Brewery premixed beverages are available at One Four One after dark.

Giveaway is a grand success The Grand Tatura Giveaway — a creation of Mes Amours owner Kirsty Richardson and Tatura resident David Tartaglia — has been the perfect distraction to leave the stress of COVID-19 at the door. Run from September 14 until November 18, the promotion presented Tatura's public the chance to back local businesses — and in doing so, reap the rewards. More than $2000 worth of goods and services were given out on November 21, after consumers purchased products from participating stores during the promotional period. Speaking before the competition's close, Ms Richardson said it had struck up a real buzz about Christmas in town. "There has been a really great response to the giveaway," she said.
Mes Amours owner Kirsty Richardson says the Grand Tatura Giveaway has helped bring the town together ahead of Christmas. Picture: Megan Fisher
And, in true Tatura spirit, locals didn't hesitate to get behind it.
"We have seen plenty of businesses involved where people are getting a lot of entries in which is so good to see."
"We came up with the idea to bring everyone together after the whole COVID-19 fiasco, which I think has been done successfully," Ms Richardson said.
The giveaway was first floated as a uniting concept for the entire town to participate in.
"It is also a way to give back to the community — they have been loyal and so this places an emphasis on this.
"I have seen plenty of people out doing their shopping locally, preparing for Christmas." One possible offshoot of the giveaway is the Tatura Business Collective. Heralded as a platform for ideas to burgeon among local businesses, informal talks have been had in order to get the idea off the ground.
"We haven't had any formal meetings about it, but we have had a few chats in the Facebook group," Ms Richardson said. "At the moment we are just making sure people aren't overwhelmed with the COVID-19 situation, but hopefully in 2021 we can make this our next venture. "The interest is certainly there."

Using food as the body's medicine Tatura-based clinical nutritionist Diana Miranda has a passion for helping people from the inside out.
Specialising in digestive and children's health, Ms Miranda said she was invested and open to helping anyone who came to see her.
After 28 years as a hairdresser "making people pretty on the outside", Ms Miranda put down the scissors and took herself back to university to study nutritional medicine.
"My motto is food is the body's medicine," she said.
Now she is a successful clinical nutritionist, willing to help anyone who comes to her. Whatever the condition, Ms Miranda says she is here to help.
"Then we create a treatment plan to suit that individual."
"I was tired of making people look beautiful on the outside, as I knew in my heart they needed help on the inside," she said.
Ms Miranda is planning to relocate her practice from Taylor Rd to Service St in Tatura in late January next year.
"My role is to help assist and work to improve certain conditions by working on a person's food and lifestyle by reshaping their relationship with food. "I try and look at the whole person, creating treatment plans that offer food and lifestyle tips to help them navigate, improve and mitigate their condition."
"When patients come in they have already filled out a health appraisal form, which gives me an indication on what nutritional deficiencies they may be experiencing and which body systems need assistance.

Making a day to celebrate Australian Health Solutions Tatura Pharmacy has put a COVID spin on its annual VIP Christmas event this year, offering customers the chance to enter to win one of 20 hampers with any purchase in store on Wednesday, December 9.
Desserts, Cannoli, Italian Biscuits, Fruit Tarts, Christmas Cakes and Hampers. Louisa 's Cake Boutique would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and thank everyone for their support throughout the year.

The incentive will run from 9 am to 6 pm, and there will be numerous discounts on offer for customers to purchase their Christmas shopping. Retail manager Tracy Lowry said it was important for the pharmacy to host the event in some way, shape or form after the topsy-turvy year COVID-19 caused. "Usually the whole community gets behind the VIP night and we have finger food, champagne and nibbles, and even live music some years," she said. "We'd get up to 150 people through the doors over the few hours, obviously none of that can happen this year. "It was important to us that we still do something for the community and we've had a lot of people ask if we were going to hold something this year, so we came up with this."
Medicine is food Food is Medicine
“Where prevention is better than cure” There are so many Christmas gift ideas at Australian Health Solutions Tatura Pharmacy.
By hosting the event over the whole day, Ms Lowry said hopefully it would suit everyone better.
Hopefully, the pharmacy will be able to return the celebration to normal next Christmas.
"The whole day strings people out," she said.
"We want to make it really clear to our customers, we fully intend to return to our usual VIP event next year," Ms Lowry said.
"Then they can get their Christmas shopping done and still get good discounts."

Christmas time in Tatura Tatura is ‘On The Move’. This year Christmas will look a little different with some Covid-19 restrictions still in place. Christmas Carols will be a roving event this year with the Tatura Lions Club delivering ‘On The Move’ playing carols at designated stops throughout the town on Friday 18 December at 6:00-8:30pm.
During what has been a challenging year, I’m proud of Tatura’s community response in keeping the community connected and supported. It’s exciting to see progress on the build of the $2.22m fire station and the redevelopment of the Tatura Library which is set to be completed early in the New Year. During this festive season, I hope you’re able to share your time in a covid safe way with family, friends and neighbours. Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Community supports Moyola A whole-of-community effort has helped maintain a quality lifestyle for residents of Tatura's Moyola aged care facility during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The retirement village Moyola Gardens includes 37 architecturallydesigned independent living units, championing a relaxed lifestyle, and embracing community.
Chief executive officer Polly Devine said the community-owned organisation had continued to prioritise the health and wellbeing of residents in 2020 with the implementation of restrictions — in line with pandemic guidelines — being met with overwhelming support.
The Gardens invites seniors and over 55s to enjoy community living that gives the freedom to live independently, knowing that all is cared for and most importantly that they belong to a supportive and happy community.
"We have had great understanding from not only families, staff and residents but the wider Tatura community, specifically the co-operation of our community and essential providers," Mrs Devine said. "The Tatura Lions Club, A&P Devine Plumbing, Tatura Medical, Tatura Rotary, Peter Kennedy Landscaping, Matt Langley Electrical and Generations Opportunity have offered consistent support throughout this unprecedented and unpredictable year." Moyola is a not-for-profit organisation that boasts two highquality sites.
Moyola Lodge is a 43-bed residential aged care facility that is distinguishable by its personcentred-care approach and homely environment. The lodge is committed to a tailored care approach to each individual resident's needs, and espouses an exceptional level of care that every resident deserves. Resident Ruth McCracken said she enjoyed living at the facility and said the staff treated her as a person, not a patient. "The right people are here at Moyola. During COVID-19 Moyola

was prepared for everything, the things we've had to do this year have been made pleasant and bearable by the staff," Mrs McCracken said.
Moyola has provided respite and care for people in Tatura and the wider community for many decades and continues to be a significant employer in the town.

New use for grand old building After 80 years, the Sacred Heart Parish in Tatura has been given a much-needed update in order to become the new headquarters for the Diocese of Sandhurst and Catholic Education in the area. The completion of the convent will mean the relocation of the Catholic Education's Shepparton office to Tatura, something the assistant to the director of planning, resources and governance Trish Miller said would suit the Diocese of Sandhurst well due to its broad geographical reach in the area. "We're really looking forward to working in Tatura in the near future," she said. "Tatura is very central, which will mean some of our staff in the Goulburn Valley will be able to work in the office. "The rest of the convent will also provide excellent meeting opportunities — the previous office was much smaller. "I assist all of our schools with planning and infrastructure needs,
so from that perspective I've been working with the project manager to make sure the building is fit for purpose. "It's got some really functional meeting spaces and smaller offices, which will mean we can far better meet the needs of our school communities and employees."
"We've attempted to keep as many features as possible to their original state while also bringing it up to the state-of-the-art status," she said.
"The parish has led this process and we are very proud of the work that has been done. "The transformation has been quite extraordinary."
Ms Miller said it was exciting to see the renovations get to this point, after the office was contacted by the parish to partner and begin this several years ago. "The planning for it certainly took some time," she said. "And the actual renovations have as a well because of the age of the building. "Working through COVID regulations we expect to be able to move in early 2021." Ms Miller said St Mary's Hall was built in 1906 and the two-storey piece at the front of the church was an addon built 80 years ago as a thank you present from the parish to the Sisters of Mercy for their contributions.

Funding boost for creative arts hub Sacred Heart Primary School students will soon be working from a new state-of-the-art $1.84 million creative arts hub. Principal Pauline Hindson said the school had been planning the project for some time, but the October announcement of a $920,000 grant would allow the dream to become reality. Ms Hindson said the new building would house flexible specialist learning spaces, meeting rooms for visiting professionals and additional toilets. "Creative arts and music are an integral part of our curriculum; we have a school band, a choir and enthusiastic staff who provide lots of opportunities for students," she said. "This will allow us to meet the growing enrolment demands and to provide the best possible facilities for existing and future families." Architect drawings are now being finalised and Ms Hindson said the brief included making the best use of
space within the school grounds, to retain its community feel. "The children were very excited to hear the news, especially at this time of year when the band and choir would normally be practising together for the Christmas carols and visits to Moyola," Ms Hindson said. "Those events can't happen now due to COVID, and the children have really missed their time practising together." The project is on a tight timeline, with planning permission expected to be granted in February, design development finalised by April and construction completed by August 2022.
An artist's impression of Sacred Heart Primary School's new state-of-the-art creative arts centre.
"There will be a tender process and we're hoping that as many local trades as possible will be involved," Ms Hindson said. Grant funds were awarded under the Victorian Government's NonGovernment School Capital Funding Program, with the school to fund the balance of the project.
Students will benefit from the bright new learning space.

New name, same great quality Tatura's newest business owner Brenton Moore has built a career by seizing opportunities, so when a longstanding butchery came up for sale he jumped at the chance. After some minor renovations and a fresh new look, what was formerly Thomas Family Butchers in Hogan St, has now been rebranded Meats and Moore. Mr Moore will continue to offer a full range of beef, lamb, pork and chicken along with artisan products such as kabana, bacon and ham, which are all manufactured in-store with his own meat smoker. "I'll be using the previous owner's recipes for kabana and experimenting with a few of my own flavours, like cheese and chicken," Mr Moore said. As a point of difference, he only stocks grass-fed beef from the Southern Ranges Platinum Brand, which has a two-plus marble score, and is typically found in five-star restaurants. "The grass-fed beef product is more natural for the animal than grain-fed,
and it's more natural for us, because it's easier to digest," he said. Meats and Moore has a selection of ready-to-cook options such as chicken kievs and stir-fry mixes, which will please those with busy lifestyles, and — with several coeliac family members — will only stock gluten-free options. To avoid any risk of cross contamination, all products, marinades and breadcrumbs are gluten-free and Mr Moore is working with Coeliac Australia towards accreditation. He is no stranger to Tatura, having attended primary school in the town before moving to Kotupna, and then to Melbourne at age 17. "I couldn't get an apprenticeship at home so I went to stay with my brother in Melbourne and went into a butcher's shop asking for a job, and they said I could start on Monday," Mr Moore said. Two years later he was qualified and promoted to manager, and six years on — when the owners expanded the

business to a franchise model — he helped establish new stores under the Australian Butcher Store banner. Now aged 28, and keen for his two young children to experience life in the country Mr Moore moved back to Nathalia, where his parents now live.
"Owning my own business really appeals to me. "I've spent so many years working for someone else's benefit I decided it was time for those 12 and 13-hour days to be for mine and my family's benefit."

Committee members have adapted to the technological and digital changes required to continue their work, with most meetings held via teleconference for the first time ever. Congratulations to Lynn Gundrill who was re-elected as CRC president, with Gary Whyte re-elected as treasurer. We look forward to welcoming new committee members in 2021. Please contact lisa.waite@gvhealth.org.au to express your interest. At GV Health’s Tatura campus asymptomatic testing for COVID-19 for all staff was carried out in November. This testing, which is to occur every four weeks, is now a requirement for all Residential Aged Care staff, with the results submitted regularly to The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The commencement of asymptomatic COVID-19 testing of all Tatura Hospital and Parkvilla Aged Care staff every four weeks and the requirement to submit weekly data to DHHS was set up to increase surveillance testing in order to reduce the occurrence of healthcare associated infections in aged care facilities.
‘BLOSSOM’ BRINGS JOY TO RESIDENTS
‘Blossom’ Moooving Art Cow has been standing proud on the lawn at the front of the facility since the beginning of September, bringing a splash of colour and smiles to the faces of staff and residents. Blossom is part of the Moooving Art Herd and is a floral design by Mooroopna artist, Amanda Charquero. “Blossom was inspired from the happiness you feel when you receive a bunch of flowers or walking in a beautiful garden full of colour!,” Amanda says. “A sense of happiness and calm.” A big thank you to both Amanda and Greater Shepparton City Council for allowing Blossom to spend some time in Tatura over recent months.

Library on track to reopen Come Christmas time, it's hoped Casey St will have an old resident return with the re-opening of the newly refurbished Tatura Library.
Originally co-located in the old Rodney Shire Office, Mr Preece said the library was very small and quite outdated for the needs of the community.
The library has been under construction since January with an expected completion date of July, which was delayed due to coronavirus, wet weather and unexpected underground conditions.
"It had very little presence on the road, very little visibility," he said.
Now there is hope the library will be open to residents by Christmas.
"We are so happy with how it's come together, it's absolutely terrific."
Goulburn Valley Libraries chief executive Kevin Preece said the only thing holding the opening back now was being able to have the furniture, shelving and library contents delivered in time.
With funding from Greater Shepparton City Council, the Victorian Government's Living Libraries Program and community donations, totalling $2 million, the Tatura Library has received a stateof-the art fit-out to provide a valuable community resource.
"There's just a lot of finishing works left," he said. "We've got to transfer all the book stock, DVDs and other materials from the temporary library on Hogan St, and currently COVID restrictions mean only 10 people can be in the library at a time. "Otherwise it's all going pretty well."
"Now it comes right out onto the street. "With these upgrades, we can now support the needs of the community.
"The Federal Government also agreed to provide $1000 towards the community contribution," Mr Preece said. Fundraising committee chair Carl Walters said the amount raised through community donations was incredible

"Libraries going forward will be very different to what they were," he said.

Club is hitting season for a six For the first time since joining the Cricket Shepparton association about 15 years ago, Tatura Cricket Club is fielding a team in every senior grade and junior age division. The club, which is celebrating 140 years since its formation in 1880, has teams competing in the 2020–21 season draws from Haisman Shield A-grade right through to the junior under-10s. Club president Rohan Forster said there were also a number of youngsters participating in the Woolworths Junior Blasters program for five to eight-year-olds, which augured well for the club's future. When Toolamba Cricket Club folded earlier in the year, Mr Forster said five or six players made their way to Tatura, leaving the committee with a decision to make. "We could either stay with the four senior teams and do it comfortably, or have a crack and actively recruit more players to have the five," he said. The decision by Cricket Shepparton to eliminate two-day games from the fixture, due to COVID-19, also helped increase player numbers.
"We promoted the fact that the extra team would be in the lower division to accommodate those who had work or family commitments and couldn't manage the two-day games," Mr Forster said. "That flexibility has encouraged some former players back." A total of 13 cricketers with links to Tatura, who either weren't playing or were playing with other clubs, have returned — along with nine players new to the club. "The town is obviously growing, and there's a lot of enthusiasm and excellent numbers at training," Mr Forster said. "The only downside is that because of COVID we haven't been able to socialise and welcome new players as we would normally like. "We have a good mix of ages and there's always room for more.

"Our mantra is that any age or ability is welcome; we like winning, but it's as much about participation and having a good time.
"Our A-grade captain coach Jayden Armstrong is a young bloke, in fact the leaders in our top three grades are young, in their early 20s.
"It's really pleasing to see these young blokes take on positions of responsibility with enthusiasm and positivity."

New era for bowls in Tatura The start of the Goulburn Valley Bowls Division pennant competition in early November heralded a new era for the sport in Tatura.
Leading the on-field charge is new coach Lee Farrell, a familiar face who played with the Hill Top club two seasons ago.
For the first time, members of the Tatura Bowls and Hill Top Bowls Clubs competed alongside, instead of against, each other in midweek and weekend pennant.
He comes to the club from Darwin with an extensive coaching resume in bowls, basketball and Australian rules football, and is a winner of more than 60 bowls club titles.
The formation of Tatura-Hill Top has resulted in a merged 'one-town' bowls club that pundits expect to be a competitive force.
Mr Farrell has also coached and played bowls at state level, representing the Northern Territory on several occasions.
Importantly, both clubs will retain their own facilities, club structures, finances and history.
"I've had a long association with some of the Hill Top players, they used to come up regularly for our carnivals during the dry season in Darwin and I got to know them pretty well," Mr Farrell said.
Tatura Bowls Club chairman John Crilly has been an advocate for the merger for many years, strongly believing it was necessary in order for the Tatura clubs to compete at the highest level. He said there "was a real buzz around town" and the merged club had secured generous sponsorship from Merritt's Funerals, PlanRight and Tatura Engineering to roll out a new uniform, which reflects the Tatura township with a subtle bulldog appearing on the club shirt.
In the weekend pennant Tatura-Hill Top has sides in divisions one to six, with two sides in division five,
and in midweek pennant there is a division one, two division twos and a division four.
"A few of them suggested I should come and play here, when our bowls are finished in the territory, during the wet season, which I did two seasons ago." He's excited for the challenge of coaching the newly merged club and said, regardless of which club they were affiliated with, people really wanted to come together to play for the town of Tatura.
