“I’m really proud of our staff, who always go that extra mile, and we’re in a really good position, with the ability to deliver great outcomes for our customers longterm,” Mr Webb said. “The tough years will inevitably come again but having that financial strength and large network means we can still deliver great outcomes even when times are more challenging.
The workshop and warehouse are bigger than ever.
“I feel we can do that now better than we ever have.”

“When you buy a piece of machinery as a long-term investment, you want a dealer you know is going to be there, is strong, and is going to back you up when you need it.
O’Connors continues to deliver for customers as the Shepparton dealership opens the doors on new state-of-theart facilities Case IH dealership O’Connors has marked a new chapter in its almost 60-year history with the recent opening of new premises for its Shepparton dealership. Shepparton is one of 15 locations in the O’Connors’ network, and a key broadacre farming region, with the company embarking on the establishment of a new site to accommodate the demands of local customers and the workplace needs of its staff.
Mr Webb said it was an exciting time to be part of the agriculture industry, and while there were still certain challenges for the sector and customers, the short-term outlook was currently a good one. For O’Connors, it’s about managing existing industry pressures to keep customer businesses productive and profitable, and their machinery where it needs to be — in the paddock and on the job.
“The former location served us very well for many years, but we got to the point where we outgrew it,” O’Connors’ chief executive officer Gareth Webb said.

The new place is going to be a big boost for staff morale, sales manager Tim Edgar said, with better lighting and new awnings that will keep employees out of the rain and the sun as they work.
“There’ll be a lot more space to display gear.”
“There are so many more things we can do in the workshop; it’s all geared around exactly what we do.
More space was needed to service the impressive heavy machinery.
“The undercover area is terrific for servicing and when customers bring their gear in, there’s just plenty of area. “It’s going to be so much better for the techs, having all that space to be able to work out of the elements when they get the gear in here.
“There’s some lifting equipment built in and because it’s been purpose-built, it’s going to make life a whole lot easier and safer for the guys to work with.
More storage means more parts in stock for when something goes wrong, and a bigger and better workshop means more efficient services.

Technicians usually operate a regular workday between 8.30 am and 5 pm. But the O’Connors crew can, and will, attend an after hours emergency — rain, hail or shine.
“But generally, service and backup is the biggest thing. And that’s the relationship that gets built at dealership level.
Time is money for farmers, with crops being sown or harvested on time the difference between making or losing money in a season. So when something goes wrong with the equipment a farmer relies on, it’s essential they can get servicing and spare parts organised at short notice so they can get back in the paddock.

O’Connors has been around for a long time, and the sheer amount of technical knowledge within the group means the staff on the ground know exactly what to do to get farm machinery back online.
And if the O’Connors staff start a job, they work until it’s done.
Shepparton branch manager Brendan O’Connor said. “That’s what we want to be known for — that when it does go wrong, we’re in there, making sure we’re trying to get it right and keep the customers running.

“Things don’t always go right, and you can’t help that. It just is what it is,”
“Farmers are looking for service, availability and back-up.
“Ninety per cent of our work is field service,” Mr Tyler said. “We go to the customer’s place of business, or right to where the tractors or the combine has broken down, and we fix it on the farms.
“When there’s breakdowns and that sort of thing we will have your parts overnight,” O’Connors Shepparton service manager Gareth Tyler said. The O’Connors network operates across different climate zones, stocking everything a farmer could need — and only a phone call away. “We can move techs around, we can move equipment around, we can move parts around to suit the seasons,” sales manager Tim Edgar said. “We’ve got vehicles travelling between dealerships every day of the week during harvest that just continually runs until harvest is finished — not only harvest up north, but it’s still running when harvest is running down south.

“We pride ourselves on family orientated business, it’s part of our core values,” O’Connors Shepparton branch manager Brendan O’Connor said.
A LONG AND PROUD HISTORY
O’Connors has been an agricultural supplier by farmers for farmers since 1964, when John James O’Connor started his first dealership in Birchip. Growing up on the family farm at Wail (north of Horsham) with his four brothers, John James’ first job was with Dalgety in Minyip working as a stock and station Fifty-sevenagent.years later the O’Connors business continues to carry that on-theground knowledge of the agricultural sector, reflected in the opening of the new purpose-built dealership in InShepparton.2003,O’Connors took on the mantle of the premier supplier to the Goulburn Valley’s agricultural industry when sons of the founder, Mark and Dennis O’Connor, with new partner Brendan Magee, purchased the Shepparton Case IH dealership and East End garage. They retained all 13 staff — not only keeping their expertise, but carrying on the reputation for excellence that had been built by these loyal staff members.
“I think it’s just a good business practice to be able to conduct yourself as a family-based company ... especially when you’re dealing with families out on the Long-termfarm.” relationships with the region’s farmers were maintained and strengthened, while the purchase of the Shepparton dealership gave O’Connors the opportunity to diversify into the extensive irrigation area and diverse range of agriculture of the Goulburn Valley.O’Connors currently has 15 branches across three states and employs 320 people, in Ballarat, Birchip, Bordertown, Condobolin, Corowa, Forbes, Grenfell, Horsham, Mildura, Ouyen, Swan Hill, Shepparton, St Arnaud, Warracknabeal and West Wyalong. This broad footprint means the company carries products and offers services catering to nearly every agricultural sector in southern Australia. This diversity not only brings a wider product range, but also industry knowledge from a wide geographic area.
O’Connors is a business that is committed to the agricultural industry and to rural communities.

“Some of our stuff can be as accurate as two centimetres year-to-year. You know, that’s the most expensive and it works its way back down to sort of 50 centimetres,” Mr O’Connor said.
“We’ve got experienced trained technicians that are up-to-date on all the latest software and all the latest gear.
O’Connors now have the space to think bigger.

And speaking of accuracy, O’Connors has dedicated the necessary resources to become the market leaders in precision agriculture hardware, establishing a RTK reference station network with more than 120 towers — the largest network in the Southern Hemisphere. This satellite navigation system is the newest and most accurate system in the Goulburn Valley region, far outstripping the competition in performance.
“One of the good things about our product is the way that we back it up.
O’Connors Shepparton is one of the few O’Connors branches that is right across the range to meet the diverse needs of the Goulburn Valley community.
O’Connors is the go-to dealership when it comes to heavy farm machinery.

“The benefit of the product is the service that we offer to back it up,” Mr O’Connor
“Shepparton is quite unique,” service manager Gareth Tyler said. “We go from selling small horsepower tractors right up to the 600 horsepower tractors and then we’ve got combines, self-propelled sprayers, hay gear and the “You’verest.got your orchards, you’ve got your market gardeners, you’ve got dairy and you’ve got your broadacre farmers as Broadacrewell.” is the natural market for O’Connors, but with capability to draw from 15 branches, Shepparton’s dealership can meet any customers’ needs.
But at the end of the day, be it navigation from orbit or a spare part for a combine, the benefit of the products and services provided by O’Connors is the reassurance that you’ll be looked after.
Shepparton branch manager Brendan O’Connor said automation of steering and broadacre farming was where he saw the industry moving — and O’Connors is positioned to meet the demands of any industry shifts in hardware “Everythingrequirements.isgettingbigger, everything has to be accounted for, so precision farming is pretty much the direction it’s going these days,” Mr O’Connor said.

In his role as group after sales support, Mr Rogers makes sure farmers get what they pay for and the tractors keep rolling. He started with the group at Warracknabeal in October 1989 as parts manager, after already working in the agricultural sector for years. Mr Rogers moved to the Shepparton dealership in April 2003, when O’Connors acquired the East End garage. Now he supports the 15 branches of O’Connors across three states. Mr Edgar was a part of O’Connors for eight years as a salesman and, after leaving for work in Echuca, moved back to Shepparton to become the sales manager, a position he’s held for three years since.
“The sky’s the limit, if you’ve got the drive.
He’s gained a lot of experience at O’Connors, which is something he’s always appreciated about the company.
Being a part of a big branch means that not only are various job opportunities available across the board, but clients can also be assured they’re receiving the best access to farming equipment.
“We have an ability to draw on a vast network and because we’re sort of in different climatic zones too, different dealerships are busy at different times so we can move techs, equipment and parts around to suit the seasons,” Mr Edgar said.
“If you can’t be a farmer, this is the next best place to be.
“The ag industry is really good at the moment and I don’t think there’d be a more buoyant industry in Australia.”
O’Connors team members have a few things in common: experience, drive and knowledge. Sales manager Tim Edgar can vouch for his customers’ satisfaction.
“Just the knowledge that’s under each roof; O’Connors have been going for a long time and we have that ability to be able to draw on all of our other “Ifdealerships.wecan’tfind the solution, there’ll be someone in our dealership network that will Alongsideknow.”the company itself, the customers have been another big reason why Mr Edgar has stayed all these years. “Dealing with the customers is the best part,” he said.
“We’re about employing local people and giving the locals somewhere to come and work. It’s somewhere to come and work and progress if they want to.“
Mr Tyler manages the repair, service and pre-delivery of new machines in his role as service manager of O’Connors. He has been with O’Connors in this position for two-and-a-half years after working as a mechanic then service manager at a Mazda dealership. Since making the switch from cars to farm machinery, Mr Tyler has seen the difference between the two industries and has not regretted the move.
Strong and efficient service is top priority at O’Connors and when it comes down to it, service manager Gareth Tyler has all the know-how and expertise to make this a reality for the dealership’s customers.
The service team at O’Connors works hard to cater to the clients’ needs, with services like regular freight runs for parts during harvest season, AFS Connect and on-call field servicing.

AFS Connect is technology that has only been introduced to O’Connors in the past two years which, at a glance, helps service techs troubleshoot issues on machines from the office before heading out to the farm to fix it.

“You go out and fix someone’s sprayer in the middle of spraying season and it’s 10 o’clock at night and they were planning on spraying all night and when they get going again, they’re just over the moon and they ring up and say thanks. So, it’s not a thankless task.”

Bernie Teasdale knows the meaning of the motto ‘if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life’. Tom Brain is among those who chose his careers at O’Connors based on the strong reputation for customer satisfaction.
“The thing I enjoy the most, is the problem solving and achieving good outcomes for customers,” he said.
The diverse nature of the service requirements in the south end of the nation’s food bowl creates an atmosphere of camaraderie as O’Connors staff work to support the farmers keep up with the demands of the season.
“It’s more of a partnership we need customers, they need mechanics, we work together,” Mr Tyler said. “They give us a hand, they help out where they can if we need a lift for something or one of the guys gets stuck the customer shoots back, grabs a tractor and pulls us out. “It’s just a different mentality; we’re all working together to achieve an outstanding result.”
“We’re not just broadacre there’s also horticulture here, there’s dairy here, you’ve got vineyards, you’ve got all kinds of industry, you know, like intensive animal farming as well,” he said.
“There’s 25 people here in the Shepparton branch and we get on really well. It’s a very good group of people,” Mr O’Connor said.
Branch manager Brendan O’Connor said the Shepparton dealership was made up of a team of great staff who were dedicated to ensuring the agricultural equipment runs seamlessly.
Mr Tyler said working in Shepparton was great because it was unique and interesting, and there was always something new and challenging to do.
Service manager Gareth Tyler has been working at O’Connors for just over two-and-a-half years, and while it’s always busy, he says it’s been a rewarding experience.
