Mini-goats join alpaca stud
Eden Rise Alpacas has expanded. Stud owners Samantha and Steven Schwebach said they would have three young alpacas for people to come and see at this year’s Seymour Alternative Farming Expo.
Samantha said Eden Rise Alpacas loved coming to the expo to educate people about how alpacas make great livestock additions and companion animals for hobby farmers.
"It’s a great opportunity to learn more about alpacas," she said. "We’ll educate visitors on what a wonderful and unique animal they are, what they can produce with their fleece and also how they’re good herd guard and companion animals."
Expo visitors can also purchase knitted products from the fleeces and fibres of the farm’s alpacas, including mittens, beanies and scarves, as well as buy imported alpaca products from Peru, such as ponchos, jumpers, throw rugs and socks.
The family was proud to launch their new endeavour at last year’s expo, as their daughters introduced their own business — Eden Rise Australian Miniature Goats.
Claudia and Ava Schwebach will be bringing two very endearing and friendly mini-goats called Millicent and Annie to the expo, a mother and daughter duo whose wonderful personalities are sure to win over the crowds.
Eden Rise Alpacas and Mini-Goats are based in Glenaroua.
The business started 14 years ago and the farm has about 50 alpacas, which are used for fleece products and bred to produce healthy and well-handled animals.
