Royal champion on show

Former teacher Ali Hilli is again bringing three of her prize Belted Galloway cattle to the Seymour expo.

The paddock is a far cry from the physics lab, but Ali and her partner John Heard will have on display the unique breed which they produce at their Gippsland stud, Jalaway.

“We breed them not only for temperament but also structural correctness and meat quality,” Ali said.

“The flavour and tenderness are outstanding; that is the only way to describe it.

“We will also have on display a calf hide for people to pat as well as the cattle.”

On show from the stud’s 90 head will be its bull, Tenacious, and two heifers, Striptease Affair and Tabua.

Striptease Affair was Supreme Champion Belted Galloway at last year’s Melbourne Royal Show.

“Her name may have been contentious during judging; clearly some people don’t get my sense of humour,” Ali said.
