STEAM RALLY ECHUCA 2014

2014 major sponsor Moama bowling club Moama Bowling Club takes great delight in welcoming visitors to the 2014 annual Steam Rally Echuca.

Moama Rotary for its continuing commitment to developing and enhancing the event year after year.

Whether you are a long-standing patron of the event, or about to experience this enchanting yesteryear wonderland for the first time – we know you will be swept away in the nostalgia, history and carnival atmosphere that awaits.

Countless community organisations, charities and not-for-profit groups across the region are direct benefactors of Steam Rally Echuca and it is incumbent upon us as a collective community to show our support.

Held annually on the Queen’s Birthday weekend, Steam Rally Echuca is one of the longest running tourism events on our region’s calendar and in 2014 will showcase a full card of undiscovered attractions and more than 700 exhibits representing days gone by.

Tourism events like this one play an essential role in creating significant economic spin-offs for Echuca Moama and district, and MBC is proud to play a part in assisting to drive and sustain growth in this space. We look forward to sharing this outstanding weekend with you once again and invite you to grab your friends, wind back the clock and jump aboard the magical steam rally ride.

Celebrating its 51st year, this drawcard event is bursting at the seams with fantastic entertainment for the entire family - steam engines, vintage cars, working horses and of course the crowd favourite ‘Thomas the Tank Engine'.

Campaspe inclusion PROJECT

The One & All Campapse Inclusion Project is a revolutionary initiative shaping a collective community stance that values all walks of life and abilities.

cross country events, athletics carnivals, sporting games, dance and concert rehearsals and community-based projects.

The project breaks down social barriers, builds mutual respect and overcomes discriminatory attitudes by empowering a generation of new leaders with a greater understanding of the challenges faced by people living with disabilities.

Participants with disability are buddied with an able-bodied peer who mentors, trains and participates with them in a variety of sport, recreation, community or school based activities.

This trailblazing initiative commenced in 2009 with the aim of promoting inclusion in sport.

Through these events, the program has sparked heightened awareness, acceptance and inclusion within the community – changing not just the lives of people with special needs, but all those whom it touches.

Since then the concept has become a fundamental movement across the region and has been overwhelmingly embraced by local schools, sporting clubs and the community in its entirety.

The One & All movement is not only creating opportunities for people with disability but also for able-bodied participants who are emerging as richer, stronger, more confident and accepting individuals.

The One & All Inclusion Project creates opportunities for people of all abilities to participate together in recreational activities including camps,

THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE Thomas the Tank Engine is coming back to help celebrate the rally’s 51st Anniversary! Thomas is known and loved the world over by the young and young at heart. There will be plenty of opportunities to take a photo with Thomas, hear his whistle blow and grab a giveaway for the kids. In its other life this steam train is known as Klondyke, a 3'6" steam locomotive ex-Pioneer Mill QLD - the only sugar mill to run 3'6" or ’narrow’ gauge. Klondyke is normally kept at the Bellarine Railway but was hired to the Abt Wilderness Railway, Tasmania, during 2000 and became the first steam locomotive to work at that location after restoration of the Abt Railway. This will be the fourth time the Echuca steam rally has transported a full size steam locomotive on site to have in steam over the weekend. Thomas appears with thanks to the Bellarine Railway in Queenscliff, Victoria, which is a not-forprofit society operated by volunteers. The railway operates on a 16km section of the original South Geelong to Queenscliff branch line (opened 1879) and features an impressive collection of narrow gauge locomotives from around Australia. Today the Bellarine Railway offers heritage rides, school/group visits, steam and diesel train driver experiences, as well as their special Day out with Thomas events. Check them out - www.bellarinerailway.com.au

Echuca Moama Rotary sincerely thank the Bellarine Railway for their assistance to get “Thomas the Tank Engine” to Echuca for our 51st celebrations.

You will see these little treasures out and about all weekend as they are ridden around the venue or in their display in the indoor market shed.

IF I CAN’T HAUL IT, IT’S NOT WORTH HAUL’N Each year Aaron’s Heavy Haulage have assisted with bringing Thomas the Tank Engine to Echuca. This isn’t a usual job for anyone, but with team work each end of the trip, it does make quite a sight to behold. Aaron’s Heavy Haulage specialises in all types of heavy haulage including all mining, construction equipment, earthmoving and agricultural machinery and over dimensional loads. We sincerely thank Aaron for his ongoing support to get “Thomas” safely to and from Queenscliff to Echuca. Aaron is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 0428 227 667.

183 1963 COMPACT FAIRLANE COLIN O’BRIAN 184 TRIUMPH 2.5 PI, MK WALTER KIESSLING, GLEN IRIS VIC The vehicle does have some exhibitor item redeeming features, it being a very limited release and one of only about 6000 manufactured by Triumph which today classifies it as being relatively rare. Its fuel injected motor is one of the earliest of its kind to be fitted to production motor cars, a better known and claimed to be the first fuel injected car being the Mercedes Gull Wing which was released several years earlier and is now a highly prized collector’s vehicle. The Triumph MK 1 Pi is also somewhat unusual for British motor vehicles insofar as Triumph engaged the renowned Italian vehicle body designer Giovanni Michelotti to produce the elegant and arguably timeless and very practical body styling. These early high performance fuel injected engines were unique at the time, all suffered some common teething problems and very few are regularly on the road today. The vehicle’s provenance is also of some small interest, it having been purchased by Mrs Cecil in England where she drove it for some time before bringing it to Australia. Mrs Cecil was the mother we believe, of the senior director of Henry Bucks exclusive men’s wear, a city store prominent in Melbourne. We are the second owners and the vehicle retains its original registration. 186 HUMBER SCEPTRE CAR KEITH WILLIMOTT, WATSONIA VIC Humber Sceptre fully imported 1964, has been from Perth to Brisbane and all places in between. 187 1970 C 1300 INTERNATIONAL TRUCK ex CFA.
