2015 MAJOR BENEFICIARY Echuca The first Legacy Club was formed in Melbourne in 1923, by a group of young men who had served together in the Australian Forces in World War 1. Since then it has grown to 50 clubs across Australia containing approx. 6000 Members, known as Legatees, who look after and care for approx. 100,000 widows and children. The heart and soul of Legacy can be expressed very simply by saying that the welfare of those widows and children of deceased returned service members is of paramount importance. They try through their endeavours, to minimise the disadvantages that the loss of the husband and father cause. This help can take many forms, some of them being assistance with coping with their bereavement, assistance in applying for Government benefits for which they may be entitled etc. Legacy also assists in educational and schooling needs even to tertiary level of those children. Financial assistance is also given with meeting mounted up debts and assistance with meeting heating and cooling costs.
Here in our district Legacy also provide, smoke alarms, security lights, lighting aids in the home and vision aids. Currently there are 212 widows resident in our district who are looked after by 22 Legatees. To aid in help to reducing social and geographical isolation Legacy organise group activities to get those who can, out of their homes by taking them to at least two activities a year, ie; Morning Melodies and lunch, and also Legacy has a great Christmas lunch with entertainment. Other than grants from the Government, to purchase a computer for example, Legacy receives no funding from other means than public donations in Legacy Week, the odd bequest, and occasional donation from businesses. Every group of Legacy is autonomous with its affairs, other than a strict adherence to the Charter of Legacy, and most importantly is the fact that ALL monies raised or donated in this area are used for those left to Legacy care and charge in this district of Echuca, Moama, Rochester, Lockington, Gunbower, Elmore and Mathoura.

OIL & PETROL ENGINES Carter Hibberson, is currently in year 8 at Echuca College. He has always loved old engines and machinery. Many years ago a family friend gave him his first engine, a buzacott. However it sat in the shed for many years until he became old enough to work on it. During a swap meet in Deniliquin a few years ago our family met Phillip Neilson, from the Echuca Vintage Machinery Club, for which they were more than happy to have young members join. Since then he has acquired a few more engines, one of which is currently at the club rooms, and
the older members are mentoring him, in its restoration. Now younger brother Jarrad, (Grade 5, St Pats Tongala), purchased an engine from an Albury Club member, during the recent rally at Kyabram, and is very keen to follow his older brother. Carter & Jarrod would like to take this opportunity to thank the club and its members for encouraging and passing on their knowledge and the love of these old machines to its junior members.

Goals start young. Their future starts here. At Moama Anglican Grammar School, we aim for our students to develop a strong sense of honour, caring for themselves, others and the world they live in. As a leading independent school in the region, we provide something to challenge and stimulate every student, with our dedicated teachers delivering innovative and dynamic teaching practices. Our students come from across the region, with convenient bus services from Kyabram, Rochester, Deniliquin and Cohuna.
Beyond the classroom, our students have the opportunity to broaden their horizons on international excursions. A group of students have just returned from our inaugural Western Front Tour, visiting the battlefields of France, and another group will soon head to Sri Lanka to work in a disadvantaged village alongside Habitat for Humanity. Co-curricular activities including sport, music, debating, public speaking and more allow our students to blend their intellectual and emotional experiences, contributing to evolving
confidence, creativity and imagination. And it’s not just our students who are striving forward. In 2015, our School is celebrating 10 years of education in our community. Our campus has grown from humble beginnings to a modern educational environment and we will shortly begin construction on our new Resource Centre and Library, designed to be an exciting and beneficial learning hub for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Enrolments for 2016 are now open. Phone 5480 5900 for more information.
