From the traditional to the modern, verses of antique prose to handwritten words of love, your wedding vows are among the most important words you’ll share.
While some couples might be confident in writing their own vows, others may prefer to use traditional vows scripted by a wedding celebrant or priest. There are no rights and wrongs when it comes to your vows, but do take into account the length of the ceremony, how comfortable you are speaking in front of your family and friends and the special meaning of the words. Should you prefer simple words of commitment, perhaps consider the traditional and time-honoured “to have and to hold from this day forward…” vows that form the cornerstone of many weddings. If you want to write your own vows, don’t limit yourself with concerns of rhyme or proper syntax, just speak from the heart and tell your partner why you want to spend your life together. Whatever you choose, remember to practise reading your vows aloud before the wedding day. It is important you are comfortable with the words you will recite so, when nerves and emotions are at play, you can recite your vows with confidence and sincerity on your wedding day.

Corowa club is all you need Plan your perfect wedding at the Corowa Golf Club.
When it comes to planning your perfect wedding day, you want everything to run as smoothly as possible. The day is all about celebration and enjoying the moment, which is why the Corowa Golf Club is the perfect venue to host any wedding. Everything you could possibly need on your day is readily available at the Corowa Golf Club. The venue itself has different sections which can be transformed into an amazing setting, both indoor and outdoor. The main function room is capable to comfortably seat up to 150 people whilst still giving the flexibility of a dance floor and space around the room. Another function area at the front of the club,
239 Honour Ave, Corowa (02) 6033 2271
overlooking the luscious greens of the golf course, can also be transformed to fit large groups in a comfortable and picturesque setting. If you prefer the outdoors, there is enough beautiful scenery to host any ceremony. Having worked on weddings for more than 40 years, Corowa Golf Club Manager Rob Boyd knows a thing or two about hosting such special events and believes his club is the ideal place to celebrate a wedding. “With such an amazing setting, room to move, catering to suit any person and of course our accommodation options, there is no need to go anywhere else,” Mr Boyd said. “Everything you need is right here at your fingertips.” Along with his own experience, head caterer Norman McLeod also brings to the table
more than 40 years of experience when it comes to wining and dining and the wedding celebration breakfast. “Norman is simply brilliant and can cater for any occasion,” Mr Boyd said. “He came to us highly recommended, in particular for weddings, which was a big factor in bringing him to us. “Golf clubs, although ideal, are renowned for not being available for weddings, but that is not the case with us. “As we have a brilliant, 27-hole- course, we are able to host weddings and other special occasions even on a Saturday, which is traditionally the main day for weddings.” The Corowa Golf Club also has on-site accommodation that can host even the biggest of families at a price that is tough to match. A family of four can stay right there at the
venue for under $100 after enjoying the event. “The key to weddings is running things to suit the bride and groom,” Mr Boyd said. “The less stress they have on the day, the better. “With our experience in such occasions, we are very confident that we can tailor the day to suit everyone and provide a prompt and exemplary day.” Another key feature the club possesses is the endless on-site photo opportunities. “With both a picturesque golf course and the elegant Murray River at our disposal, there is certainly no shortage of locations for that perfect wedding day shot,” Mr Boyd said. “Everyone at the club is so excited that we are stepping into the wedding scene and we can’t wait to start talking to future life partners about their big day.”

Justin and Bec Flynn on their wedding day. Photo by Hardinge Photography.
Speaking from experience, Corowa bride Bec Flynn says adding a personal touch to your wedding day can make all the difference. Bec (formerly Bec Davis) and her high school sweetheart Justin were married in November, 2013. They set about planning their wedding with a specific ‘Vintage Glam’ theme inspired by special things in their life.
Bec drew on her love of beautiful doilies, mason jars, vintage suitcases, all cherished mementos of her grandmother, for inspiration. The planning began with choosing the perfect venue, Wahgunyah’s All Saints “We chose the venue because it was perfectly fitted to our Vintage Glam theme,” Bec said. “It is such a beautiful spot for photos, great food and wine and they are very professional.”
Add an array of beautiful cars and stunning vintage furniture from Gather Vintage Hire and, as Bec walked into the All Saints rose garden to meet Justin, guests were transported back in time to an era of beauty and style. Of course, the moment was made complete by the perfect dress. Bec had an idea of what she wanted but found it hard to find exactly what she had imagined. So she enlisted the help of the talented designers at Poppy’s Bridal Couture in Bendigo who took Bec’s vision and created her perfect wedding dress. The result was a beautiful pearl mauve dress, flowing with soft ruffles into a full skirt to
complement a fitted bodice with stunning
ruched detail. The colour scheme was a creative vision from Bec’s mum Sue Davis. The finishing touch was a bouquet of
Bec’s favourite flowers, peonies, created by Rutherglen Florist.
The wedding day was filled with so many
memorable moments, but in particular for Bec, the music was a highlight. “We had some of my dad’s music friends the Miss Fits who very generously learnt to play our wedding songs for us, it was a nice personal touch to the day,” she said.
The wedding day went off without a worry, enjoyed by all.

While much of the fuss and fanfare at a wedding is focussed on the bride, no nuptials are complete without one other important element – the groom.
The lion’s share of planning a wedding will traditionally fall to the bride, but your beau should feel he has input into the big day. Try to find things for him to focus on that cater to his strengths. Transport – this is a great area for the groom to take charge. Let him indulge his dream-wedding mode of travel for the big day. Have your groom come up with two or three options and you can talk it over together before making a decision. ‘Suit’-able attire – Co-ordination of bridal party attire is crucial but your groom should still be able to have his say when it comes to his wedding day outfit. Take him shopping and let him try out some different styles. You want him to look dashing on the big day but you also want him to be comfortable. The honeymoon – planning your romantic getaway after the wedding is a great opportunity for the groom to take the reins. Of course, you should discuss the type of honeymoon you’d like, but why not encourage your intended to do some research, make bookings and organise incidentals. In summary, your wedding day will be memory to share with your husband for a lifetime so make sure when you look back both of you have the satisfaction of knowing you worked together to create that special day.

If you speak to the experts it turns out that the idea of matching the suit to the wedding dress isn’t really the done thing – the boys can wear what they like too.
“Typically the groom can wear whichever suit he likes and match the shirt and/or tie to his bride’s gown,” Craig Spencer from Origin Clothing Corowa said. “Current trends include the skinny tie and slim-fitted suit, however it’s important to dress for your personal

Shades of grey and blue are currently in style with fashionforward gentlemen favouring a notched or peak lapel according to Craig. “Pocket hanks with a splash of colour can add some real pizzazz. “The trend at the moment has moved away from hiring and into purchasing as the wedding party get a more tailored fit with a modern look and feel. “Unlike the wedding gown, a gentleman’s suit will probably be worn again in the near future and with the addition of a new tie or shirt a whole new outfit can be created. “Pure wool and wool blend suits are favoured by most as they offer an affordable and comfortable product that will breathe and feel great to wear. Our perfect day 12 — Your Wedding Guide, Wed. 22nd October 2014
Describing their nuptials as “more of a family reunion than a wedding”, when Leesa D’amico married her long-time partner Glenn Mowlam the day was everything the couple dreamed it would be.
Friends, family and a self-described “easy going” nature, enabled the couple to create a beautiful wedding day, filled with a lovely sense of fun and togetherness at the beautiful Corowa Golf Club. “The day was all very memorable,” Leesa said. “We chose to hold it at the Corowa Golf Club because my husband loves golf and it was something a bit different. “It was perfect on the day and the club was very accommodating, setting up a mini bar for our guests.” Leesa’s dress, designed by Vintage Rose in Hampton, Melbourne, was a striking blend
of burlesque and Moulin Rouge. The beautifully balanced blend of white, silver, black and rich red detail, gave the dress a stunning finish and was perfectly complemented by Glenn’s black suit and silver detailing. When it came to planning the wedding, Leesa was keen to take a very hands on approach. “A lot of planning went into our wedding day,” Leesa said. “I did all of the planning and catering, which wasn’t too hard or stressful because that’s what I do for a living. “There are so many helpful planning guides these days that all you need to do is tick the box and check off lists and wait for the big day to arrive. “We had local celebrant Kerryn Alexander from Corowa run the ceremony and there were absolutely no issues on the day. “It was perfect.” Leesa and Glenn’s marriage came after a wonderful four years as a couple and they

And the beautiful bride shrugged off any suggestion of wedding stress. “We are pretty easy going so the day was pretty relaxed,” Leesa said. “Even if we forgot to do things like cut the
cake, it didn't bother us.” Leesa’s best advice for couples preparing to
tie the knot was to make sure they took the time to really enjoy their wedding day.
“If problems arise just take it in your stride and work with what you've got,” she said.

When it comes to planning your wedding, the options, ideas, trends, themes and suggestions are endless.
Everyone has an opinion, every glossy bridal magazine has the “latest trends” and within weeks of announcing your engagement your head will be spinning. The internet is a veritable smorgasboard of information regarding the finer details on seasonal wedding trends. Everything from suspended wedding cakes, novelty bridal dances and diamond-encrusted cake bags will be laid out for you to peruse. But before you book that white swan for the cake topper or 24-piece orchestra for the bridal waltz here are a few tips to keep your wedding plans on track; Remember your budget – It is easy to get swept up in wanting the best of everything for your wedding day but the reality is that most can’t afford the indulgent celebrity-type

wedding you read about in magazines. Work to a budget, set limits on each aspect of the wedding from the dress to the music to the reception. That way you can ensure you have everything you need for a great day without a lifetime of debt to follow. Be creative – If you have an idea of what you want, instead of rushing out to buy it, why not consider what you can create yourself. Utilise the talents of your family and friends and create special bits and pieces – invitations, table decorations or bonbonniere. They will be unique and made with love and hopefully help the budget too. It’s your day – Your wedding is first and foremost about you and your partner and celebrating the start of your new life together with family and friends. So don’t bow to trend or tradition, instead make your wedding theme about the two of you – your ideas, the things you love and enjoy. If you can do that then you can’t go wrong.
