From an engagement in Canada, to the groom’s hometown of Gladstone and married life in Houston, USA – a wedding day in Rutherglen was a homecoming of sorts for bride Lauren Olver. Lauren, nee Dunn, hails from Wahgunyah and returned with her beau Steve Olver to celebrate their vintage-themed wedding. “The wedding ceremony and reception were at Tuileries in Rutherglen,” Lauren said. “It was the perfect location as we had travelling guests and there was lots of accommodation within walking distance.” Lauren wore a Tara Keely designed dress which she said she knew was “the one” as soon as she tried it on. “When it came to the bridesmaids, I chose the fabric colour for the dresses

Lauren and Steve and they chose the style they liked,” Lauren said. “Christine Homes of Rutherglen made the bridesmaid dresses and Carla at Rutherglen Florist did an amazing job of helping my vision come to life – it looked beautiful.” The incredibly talented Sue Davis of Sue Davis Photography in Corowa captured the day perfectly, taking photographs at the Old Bicycle Factory in Rutherglen, Star Hotel Rutherglen and of course Tuileries. “We wanted relaxed photos to look back on the day and remember the funny moments,” Lauren said.

The bridesmaids wore varying pastel shades in different styles they chose themselves. Photo by Sue Davis Photography. “Sue did an amazing job – we are so happy.” After the wedding ceremony the heavens opened bringing rain and hail, but Lauren said it all simply added to the day and “made for some great photos”. before making their home in Houston, Texas with their two boys Oscar, 4, and Archie, nine months. Lauren had some helpful advice for any new brides planning their wedding day. “I was very organised early – I would highly recommend that,” she said. “The lead up to the big day is so much more enjoyable if you are organised.”

Words of love

Your Wedding Guide, Wed. 11th November 2015 — 5

In that special moment, in front of family and friends, a bride and groom speak the words that begin their married life together – their wedding vows. From the traditional to the modern, verses of antique prose to handwritten words of love, your wedding vows are among the most important words you’ll share. While some couples might be confident in writing their own vows, others may prefer to use traditional vows scripted by a wedding celebrant or priest. There are no rights and wrongs when it comes to your vows, but do take into account the length of the ceremony, how comfortable you are speaking in front of your family and friends and the special meaning of the words. Should you prefer simple words of commitment, perhaps consider the traditional and time-honoured “to have and to hold from this day forward…” vows that form the cornerstone of many weddings. If you want to write your own vows, don’t limit yourself with concerns of rhyme or proper syntax, just speak from the heart and tell your partner why you want to spend your life together. Whatever you choose, remember to practise reading your vows aloud before the wedding day. It is important you are comfortable with the words you will recite so, when nerves and emotions are at play, you can recite your vows with confidence and sincerity on your wedding day.

The wedding cake

Gone are the days of brides and grooms being limited to traditional wedding cake flavours or designs.

While some still enjoy the tradition of a lush, fruit cake for their wedding cake, others are opting for more modern flavours such as chocolate or caramel mudcake, hummingbird cake or a torte. Also popular at modern weddings is the use of cupcakes to build a wedding

Decoration has also evolved from the traditional white icing, topped with figurines or flowers, to themed wedding cakes, coloured cakes and anything the imagination can create. Jen from Jennifer Boote Photography loves wedding days. “They are by far my favourite ‘work day’. The atmosphere is always filled with love and joy. The pace is usually fairly frantic – but that’s fun too,” she said. “I try to be at my most obvious during the creative portraits and family portrait session times of the day – the rest I try to

be as unobvious as possible.” Jen aims to capture the moments that can be so easily overlooked but, when captured, form an integral part of the wedding day story. “My other goal is to capture at least one ‘hero’ shot – the one that you will be able to treasure forever,” she said. “I will go ‘location hunting’ once I know where you are getting married and where your reception is.

“After chatting with you, I like to find a place that I believe will match what you are looking for in your images and will help create memories of the perfect day for you.” For Jen it’s not about her wedding vision, rather all about the couple and their special day. “I’m very happy to advise on what times are best for photography and what locations will work well, but ultimately I

Get the right fit The perfect jacket follows the contours of your shoulders, chest and waist. Here’s what you need to know about finding the right fit of a suit; The collar - should comfortably rest on top of your shirt collar with a hint of your shirt peering above. The shoulder - The seam should sit on the corner of where your shoulders end and your arms begin. There will be no pulling across the back, and it will fall straight from the shoulder blades. The chest - There should no pulling across the chest when buttoned, or unbuttoned, and the fabric will smoothly run over the armpit. The sleeve - The sleeve of the jacket should finish at the wrist bone. It can easily be adjusted if the sleeve is too long and lengthened if too short. A beautiful bouquet 14 — Your Wedding Guide, Wed. 11th November 2015

Yarrawonga Chronicle and Corowa Free Press

Nothing complements a beautiful bride more perfectly that beautiful wedding flowers.

Choosing the right flowers for your wedding day should begin with your preferred colours and variety while also considering the style and size of bouquet you want to carry. When you contact a supplier, have several types of flowers you like in mind. If you’re not sure, ask to see photographs of bouquets they have done for past weddings. Tell the supplier about your wedding – date, time of day, location and theme. They might be able to suggest an arrangement to suit your desires. Ask for details about size, shape, price and availability on your date of choice.

Can the colour be matched to the bridesmaid’s dresses or your wedding dress? Do the flowers preserve well? Can the same supplier provide floral arrangements for the church and/or reception? Is delivery available on the day of the wedding? Flowers are an essential and beautiful part of any wedding, but like all other aspects of your day they should reflect your personality, style and taste. Take your time, do your research and enjoy the added beauty the perfect blooms will bring to your wedding day.

Celebrating with the ones you love Photo by Sue Davis Photography.

One of the most difficult aspects of planning to negotiate can be the wedding guest list. Whether you’re planning a large or small affair, there are often tough decisions to make about sharing your special day. It’s your day Your guest list should consist of people you want to see on your special day and no one else. You should not feel you have to invite guests because of some sort of real or perceived obligation to do so and your extended family should not ask that of

you. And let all of your invited guests and relatives (including parents) know right away that they are not to invite any extra wedding guests without your consent. Set a limit If your guest list is looking a bit too large for your liking, it’s important to set the

ground rules so both you and your groom know exactly who you should invite and under what circumstances. Try to make it not so much about balancing both sides, but rather who you and your groom really care about and want to be a part of your special day. Are kids allowed? Make sure that if you are not having children at your wedding, you make this very clear to parents on the invitation. Take into consideration that the parents will need to find a babysitter and make arrangements to ensure that their child is looked after, or they may not even be able to attend at all. ‘Plus One’ A lot of guests wrongly assume when they are invited to a wedding they are invited to bring along a guest. Anyone you invite who has a spouse, a fiancé or partner should receive a ‘plus one’ invitation to make it clear they are welcome. If the invitation is sent without the ‘plus one’ it should be clear you are not expecting the invited guest to bring a friend. The seating plan Once the guest list is sorted and you’ve invited all the people you care about, the next tricky situation is the seating plan. This can be difficult to negotiate and

Avoid wedding worry Photo by Jennifer Boote Photography.

Your Wedding Guide, Wed. 11th November 2015 — 17

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, but getting there can sometimes be a recipe for stress overload.

Here are a few simple tips to avoid wedding day stress and ensure you don’t turn into the dreaded bridezilla before the big day; 1. Plan ahead. Your wedding plans need to start well in advance. Use a checklist (such as the one in this Wedding Guide) to ensure you haven’t forgotten anything. 2. Ask for help. You don’t have to do this all on your own. The groom can help with the big decisions and don’t be afraid to ask family and friends to lend a hand. 3. Delegate. You have bridesmaids because they are special friends or family members who you want to stand by your side, trust them to help out with choosing dresses, shoes, jewellery and other tasks. 4. Take time out. The wedding doesn’t have to be all you think about. Remember you’re doing this because you want to marry the person you love. Take time out together in the lead up to the big day to enjoy some romance. 5. Don’t worry about what you can’t control. So the weather forecast is bleak or the shade of napkin isn’t exactly right, the little things that you can’t control are not worth time spent worrying. 6. Remember to laugh. If all else fails remember to keep your sense of humour. Look back on your wedding day and smile, whether it goes perfectly to plan or not, because it will be a memory that lasts a lifetime.

Something old, something new…

Weddings are filled with a myriad of wedding traditions and superstitions that you can choose to ignore or embrace. While some of the more unusual traditions have petered out over the years, many lovely wedding traditions remain and

still form important part of wedding day proceedings. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue is a good luck saying that dates back to the Victorian era. The old represents the brides link to her family, the new represents good luck

and success in future married life, the borrowed represents the support of friends and family on the wedding day and finally, something blue is a representation of faithfulness, purity and loyalty. Throwing rice, or confetti, after the wedding ceremony as the couple leaves the church dates back to ancient times Albury orthodontist John Brabandt has quickly become a global leader with the Invisalign product, which helps align the teeth through a subtle, simple and hygienic method. This incredible technology is now available in Yarrawonga, Albury, Wangaratta and Deniliquin. Having recently demonstrated the results of Invisalign at the 2015 European Orthodontist Conference in Venice, the Asia Pacific Invisalign Summit in Singapore, and soon to win over crowds of professionals in New Zealand, the success of this technique on the Border is winning global support. So how does this amazing product work? Invisalign acts like braces in helping gently move teeth to their correct position, but brings many more benefits for the client. Invisalign is very subtle and its sheer appearance won’t bring the social anxiety that can come from wearing braces. The product is far more comfortable and gentle on the clients’ lips and cheeks, and also encourages better oral hygiene. The process is simple for the client, but involves high-tech design and development to produce very effective results. A painless scanner will take images of the

The often enjoyed tradition of the bride throwing the bouquet stems from medieval Europe where it was considered lucky for single women to take home a piece of the bride’s wedding dress, often resulting in the bride’s gown being torn and left in tatters. The throwing of the bouquet was designed to appease that tradition and leave the lovely bride’s wedding dress in one piece. Cutting the wedding cake together as husband and wife, and sharing the first taste, is still an enjoyable part of many wedding receptions. The tradition is meant as a good omen for the couple’s hopes of conceiving a child.

From there, the talent of Dr Brabant will help create the ideal Invisalign product tailored for your teeth to achieve the perfect results. ‘We are worldwide leaders of Invisalign and have the results to prove it,” Dr Brabant said. And when you see the unbelievable results the team at Albury’s Evolve Orthodontics have achieved with their teen and adult clients, you’ll understand why there is simply no better place to achieve that confident smile you have always dreamed of.

The lights dim, the dancefloor is empty and the beautiful bride and groom embrace for their first dance as husband and wife.

What song is playing? Well, the choices are endless. From the traditional to the modern, there really are no limits to choosing the perfect music for your wedding. Arguably the two most important pieces of music on your wedding day will be the song played as the bride walks down the aisle and the bridal waltz. In both cases, you should select music that you enjoy as a couple, maybe a sentimental favourite that brings back memories of a special time or a song that has lyrics which you feel aptly expressing your feelings. Here are just a few suggestions to get your started on your musical quest; - Unchained Melody – The Righteous Brothers, - A Thousand Years – Christina Perri, - Amazed – Lonestar, - You & Me – Lifehouse, - At Last – Etta James, - Just the Way you Are – Bruno Mars, - Don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith, - Can’t Help Falling in Love with You – Elvis Presley. Of course, failing all else, if you cannot decide, walking down the aisle to the traditional bridal march is always a lovely wedding choice.

A little gift for you Bomboniere or wedding favours are small gifts given to the wedding guests as a memento of your special day.

Traditional wedding bomboniere contained sugared almonds, but today they can include anything from photo frames to personalised rock candy. Wedding favours can also add an extra touch to your table setting if they are wrapped or decorated to match. The internet and sites such as Pinterest are loaded

with ideas for bomboniere – from the simple, sweet and cost effective to the elaborate and unusual. From macaroons to mints, succulents to soaps, the only real limit is your imagination and, of course, your budget. Consider choosing something quirky or personal that relates specifically to you and your beau and decide if you would like something different for male and female guests. Whatever you choose – have fun with it, be creative and enjoy.
