Poor shots fnd the huge trees that line most of the couch fairways, while the greens are fast but true and always in great condition.
The course perfectly refects a chance for all golfng standards to enjoy a fun and challenging round.
By modern standards the course is not long — 5817 metre par 72 for men, and 5118 metre par 72 for ladies.

What’s On Spring 2022 21
The Long Paddock
Paddock is an easy drive and accessible by caravan, car or 4WD.
The Long Paddock is the colloquial term for the stock routes that cross Australia – open stretches of unfenced land that anyone can use to move stock or feed in times of drought.
Make sure you stop and have a cuppa or a beer in Mathoura, Pretty Pine, Wanganella, Booroorban, Booligal, Ivanhoe and Wilcannia, where you will be welcomed with a smile and can get a real feel for life in the bush.
The Long Paddock now boasts 11 large scale sculptures that tell the stories, tales and history of the region.
The Long Paddock–Cobb Highway touring route follows the length of the Cobb Highway (610 km) from Echuca Moama on the Victorian border through to Wilcannia in the north.
The Long Paddock also passes through some of the most character flled villages in Australia. These little townships of between 30 and 70 people provide visitors with a glimpse of life in country communities.

What’s On Spring 2022 23
One was designed on original ‘Join Red Cross’ posters that would have been seen around Australian communities in 1914 and 1915. It depicts a woman in a traditional nursing uniform, surrounded by silhouettes of wounded soldiers and medical equipment known to that era.
The mosaics were made by Berrigan artist Janice Graham, and were installed in 2015 to mark the Throughoutcentenary.
Three of them can be found at the side of the Berrigan Shire Council building.
The second is of the Australian Red Cross logo, sitting just below a logo that demonstrates 100 years of TheANZAC.thirdshows a variety of icons from World War I including red poppies and the infamous ANZAC badge symbol.
of these shows a soldier playing The Last Post on his bugle as he is surrounded by forms of military artillery.
One collection of mosaics depicts the continued efort the Australian Red Cross has contributed to Australia. They represent the formation of the Red Cross in 1914 and 1915, at the height of World War I.
But if you look a little closer, you’ll see they are artistic representations of some of the township’s most important organisations and milestones.
The other two mosaics of the 100 years of Anzac and Red Cross project can be found sitting under the large verandah of the Berrigan Soldiers’ Memorial OneHall.
The second once again draws inspiration from traditional Red Cross advertisements, with the kind message of ‘Hope For All Mankind In War and In Peace’ scattered across through front in tile.
BERRIGAN MOSAICS
There is one that pays tribute to the Berrigan Lions Club and Berrigan Tidy Towns, both long running organisations that are essential to the Berrigan Thesecommunity.twomosaics can be found at the Hayes Park stopping area.
The Lions Club mosaic, made by Janice, showcases the slogan ‘Where There Is a Need There is a Lion’.
Building on the popularity of the mosaics displays, more have been added to Berrigan.
Town prde told in tiles
Scattered across the historic township of Berrigan you can find colourful formations of cut tile that, on first glance, appear to just be public art.
that anniversary year, Janice and her Berrigan Red Cross friends enlisted the keen hands of young children from Berrigan Public School and St Columba’s Primary School to help cut and place the thousands of individual tiles. They spanned across the eventual fve separate mosaics.
The Tidy Towns mosaic was designed and made by Maree Ryan, with help from Clara Way and Robin ItCobb.displays the town’s mascot – the pink galah – and the town motto of ‘Better In Berrigan’.

But be warned, a day or two simply won’t be enough once you see what the Murrumbidgee Region has to show you. Here’s just a few of the reasons why.
Darlington Point
The Kidman Way begins here – popular with travellers on their way to the outback – and this is also a stop on the Newell Highway, the main inland route linking Melbourne to Brisbane. You’ll step right in to Jerilderie’s country charm and hospitality on the banks of Billabong Creek. Walk the same streets Ned Kelly’s gang once did as you soak up the history of this township established in 1859. As you explore, uncover why Jerilderie’s name was derived from the Jeithi tribe’s word meaning ‘reedy place’.
Dive deeper into the region’s pastoral history at the Greens Gunyah Museum. Marvel at exquisite detail in portraits made from wool, and delight in life’s simple pleasures in Lockhart. Walk the main street with its wide shady verandahs stretching overhead and you’ll soon see why it’s called the ‘Verandah Town’. As you wander, you’ll fnd the larger-than-life water tower mural drawing you in, alongside eye-catching sculptures and pavers underfoot with even more stories to tell.
Pop in for a day trip or bring the RV and set up camp - there’s plenty to do in Darlington Point. Head to ‘The Point’ (as it’s afectionately known by the locals) for fshing, boating and camping with friends or simply revel in the country hospitality on ofer in the town. Slow down and amble among the river red gums on the banks of the Murrumbidgee. Take in the bird and animal life along the way, and see the magnifcent bascule bridge re-assembled at the entrance to the Darlington Point Riverside Caravan Park. For a walk on the wild side, make tracks for nearby Altina Wildlife Park and see the animals up close on a personalised zoo tour.
You’ll stumble upon towns, villages and localities with names you’ve only heard of in songs and stories and where history is flled with quirky characters, unique stories and bucketloads of charm.
retail precinct, sneak a peek at the mural on the water tower or learn about the history of the water wheel.
What’s On Spring 2022 35
Let The Rock’s tree-lined Avenue of Honour draw you in to see the Federation shopfronts, quaint churches and local shops. The inviting park-like thoroughfare honours the district’s World War I soldiers with a tree planted in memory of each. Look up and you’ll see the town’s namesake rising to the south of town.
Wind your way through
Milbrulong
Surrounded by rolling hills, natural bushland and open farmland, it certainly lives up to its name – just ask the locals. The village’s history and strong Lutheran infuence are all around with impressive buildings like the public hall, the wattle and daub church and the unique street signs in both English and German. And don’t miss having a schooner with the locals at the pub, NSW’s frst community-owned hotel.
Whether you’re just passing through along the Kidman Way or keen to stick around a little while, take a moment to pause and refresh in Coleambally. This planned community is actually a relatively recent addition to the map. Established in 1968, the town services the Coleambally Irrigation Area and its agricultural producers. Shop in the Brolga Place
The Murrumbidgee Trails allow you to wind your way through the region, over rolling hills to Lockhart. Follow the river red gum-lined banks of the ‘Bidgee to Narrandera and Darlington Point, weave through the canals of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area to Leeton, and head south across the Yanco and Billabong creeks as you make your way to Jerilderie.
Yerong Creek
A must-visit for twitchers and bird lovers, you’ll fnd the village of Milbrulong between Lockhart and The Rock. The town gets its name from the local Aboriginal word for ‘rosella parrot’, and while there admire the colourful mural and interpretive signs along the Rosella Walk. Don’t miss out on a peek at the Milbrulong Water Tower, either. The region’s newest mural has only just been unveiled and is perfect for those on the lookout for silo art, especially if you like to be the one who’s in the know about the newest murals.

Are you ready to explore the MurrumbIdgee region?
You can’t miss it. It’s often been called ‘the Lion of the Plains’ and known as Kengal Aboriginal Place, a signifcant site for the local Wiradjuri people. Climb to the top for some of the best views you can fnd of the surrounding landscape all year round. And don’t forget your camera, folks!
Go at a slower pace with a leisurely drive to Yerong Creek, 15 minutes south of The Rock. Take in the history and charm of the ‘Vintage Village’ as you wander and pay a visit to the Chinese Crossing in Noskes Lane. This 1880s era dam wall features the stonework of Chinese migrants and was built to accumulate water for growing vegetables and opium.

The Pioneer Museum recreates the material culture of the early German settlers, using only local relics.

The frst German settlers arrived in the Jindera area in 1867, having trekked from Adelaide in horse drawn wagons. Before they arrived, probably in the 1840s, a small wattle and daub hut was built just of the main track through town. This hut still stands at the site of the Jindera Pioneer Museum, and probably is the oldest remaining cottage or house in the Albury District.

In 1874 Johann Rosler and Peter Wagner built a store and three room residence on this same site. It became known as Wagner’s Store.
Formed in 1967, the Jindera Pioneer Museum and Historical Society purchased the evolved Wagner’s Store, the residence, and the grounds around the wattle and daub hut.
