Welcome

As we wave goodbye to summer, we say hello to a multitude of autumn events in the Echuca Moama and surrounding region.

Up and down the mighty Murray River, you can drop a line and hook a giant in a fishing classic, all while raising funds to support some of the smaller communities in Campaspe and Murray River shires.

I’m going to be flat stick over the March Labour Day weekend trying to get to everything — the Ky Rodeo, Elmore Summer SendOff Ball, Uniting Church Makers’ Market and the Moama Bowling Club Echuca Cup at the Echuca Racing Club.

Easter is just as busy, maybe even more so with the Rochy Twilight Market, Echuca Moama Lawn Tennis competition, Port of Echuca school holiday activities, Tongala Easter Hay Bale Trail, Mathoura Easter Fair, the North/South Super Sedans at Heartland Raceway, the Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival, Echuca Harness Racing’s Easter Cup, and finally, the yabby races at Moulamein pre-school.

The region’s history is vital to all of us, highlighted by the Port of Echuca and the Echuca Historical Society Museum, both participating in the National Trusts Heritage Month.

You will find me strolling through the Cargo ship at the historic wharf, with an exhibition of Samuel Hood’s photographs of Cats and Dogs, all at Sea, or finding out about different people and where they have settled from at the Historical’s Museum.

In May we will all be at cluBarham, cheering on the in-laws, everyone’s in-laws, at the 060 State Bowls Carnival, which this year is open to any bowler who is a Bowls Victoria-affiliated club member.

I will be looking forward to significant winter events — Echuca Moama Steam Iron and Trades Revival, Moama Lights and Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival.

Enjoy.

COWBOYS AND COWGIRLS GATHER AROUND FOR THE 78TH KYABRAM RODEO AS THE COWBOY NODS OUT OF THE CHUTE ON THE LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND.

Kyabram | March 8
8 What’s On

Kyabram Rodeo secretary Janelle McDonald is already taking bookings for sites, as the event is growing in popularity.

“The rodeo doesn’t change a lot, it is just getting bigger and better and more amazing every year,” Janelle said.

“The animals are getting bigger, stronger and more dangerous and the cowboys more fearless, because they keep getting in there and keep going.

“It is such entertainment because of what it is.

“Rodeos are becoming very popular.

“We had a massive crowd last year and it is getting bigger every year.”

The rodeo is going to have the same band as in 2023, the Iain Archibald band, to perform at the after party.

“The band afterwards, Iain Archibald, he was absolutely amazing,” Janelle said.

“He played the national anthem this year and he did the second verse, nobody does the second verse, so that sort of shocked everyone.

“The rodeos are making such a comeback and the animals are such amazing animals.

The Kyabram Rodeo is put on by McPhee Rodeo Company and is part of the long weekend tri-series with rodeos in Merrijig on Saturday and Chiltern on Sunday.

Kyabram Rodeo is at the Kyabram Showgrounds on Friday, March 8 with gates opening from 2 pm, for a 7 pm start.

Ride the Murray returns

THE ECHUCA MOAMA MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB IS SET TO HOST RIDE THE MURRAY AGAIN THIS YEAR AFTER BEING FORCED TO CANCEL THE 2023 EVENT DUE TO THE IMPACT OF FLOODING ON THE BIKE TRAILS.

The event caters for all experience levels and will feature three races, giving riders the chance to take in the natural scenery on both sides of the river, or the urban sights of the historic Port of Echuca.

Echuca Moama Mountain Bike Club president Paul Oman said Ride the Murray was accessible to all types of participants.

“With mountain biking you can ride as fast as you want or as slow as you like, as long as you get to the end and it’s a sport where mums and dads, fathers and sons, families can all join in,” Paul said. “We are having a singles event and pair events so you can ride with a partner if you’re a little bit unsure or you just want to have a bit of fun with your mates.

“There are a lot of people riding bikes out there and we can present something that shows them there’s more than just riding around by yourself.”

Ride the Murray takes place on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24. Races start at 10 am and 3 pm on Saturday and 9 am on Sunday. For more information, visit: www.ridethemurray.com.au

Mustering the Bulldogs

AFTER STANDING IDLE FOR SIX YEARS THE BULLDOGS WILL AGAIN COLLECT AT THE KYABRAM MACK MUSTER AT THE KYABRAM SHOWGROUNDS FROM MARCH 16 TO 17.

In previous years, the Kyabram Mack Muster has been under the auspices of the Kyabram Vintage Rally.

“Originally, we got to know Ray Reimer, the face behind the White Truck Muster, through the old trucks, going on different runs and rallies,’ Kyabram Mack Muster Incorporated Committee member David Willis said.

“He approached John Laffan and me about having something at Kyabram, the year off from the White Truck Muster.

“And the Kyabram Vintage Engine Club were happy to do that, so we started the Mack Muster there.

“None of us are actually from Kyabram, and truthfully, we wondered if we should organise one somewhere else when the Vintage Engine club were having doubts, but Kyabram is a good venue.

“People in the Mack world have got to know it a bit.”

Entry for all exhibitors at the Kyabram Mack Muster is free, with all models of trucks welcome to exhibit.

“At the last show in 2018, we got 165 Mack trucks there,” David said.

“2020, it is always easy to say, when it didn’t happen, but in hindsight, it was set to be more significant, it was gaining popularity.

“In 2018 we had about 40 or 50 other brand trucks, which was impressive, so that is well over 200 trucks.

“At this stage, because of the relatively short notice, and because we are out on our own this year, there

won’t be the variety of things that were on display before.

“It will purely be a truck show this time around. On the Saturday night of the muster, there will be a three-course dinner at Parklands Golf Club.

At the dinner, there will be guest speakers, all Mack employees from the 1970s and ‘80s, giving a presentation.

For those whose only mode of transport for the weekend is a truck, a bus will run from the Kyabram Showgrounds to the dinner.

Further information can be found on the Kyabram Mack Muster Facebook page.

Polish up the chrome

THE RICH RIVER ROD AND CUSTOM CLUB ROD RUN CELEBRATES ITS 34TH YEAR, MAKING IT ONE OF THE LONGEST RUNNING EVENTS OF ITS TYPE.

“We put an entry form out and we have people from all over Australia come to Echuca to participate with their classic cars,” Rich River Rod and Custom Club president Daniel Arnold said.

“It is a chrome bumper event, so anything with a chrome bumper is welcome or older.

“Generally, it is pre-1978.

“The majority of the cars are customised, but we do have a couple of restored vehicles and Australian muscle cars coming along as well.”

Friday night is for entrants only, with a meet and greet barbecue.

Saturday will start with an entrants’ breakfast, followed by a rod run down to Rochester.

“We are hoping to get all the entrants to participate, group up and come along,” Daniel said.

“It will be led by one of our members and cruise down to Rochester, have lunch there and put on a display.

Echuca-Moama | March 15-17
16 What’s On

“Previously, we have had 300 plus cars enter, but I reckon we might have a little bit more.”

On Sunday, entrants will have their cars on display as part of a Show ‘n Shine in Moama.

The day starts at 9 am and the presentations for the entrants will be at 12.30 pm.

“All the cars will be on display, we will have live music, we have got trade stands, stuff for the kids to do, a petting zoo, face painting,” Daniel said.

“We have a straight eight, which is your top eight cars judged by the members of Rich River Rod and Custom.

“Other awards for the Show ‘n Shine include top hot rod, top custom and anyone who is a sponsor, they give away a trophy.”

Rich River Rod and Custom Rod Run is on Friday, March 15 to Sunday, March 17.

Super sedans scream into Heartland

THE COUNTRY’S BEST SUPER SEDANS WILL BE COMING TO MOAMA WITH THE THIRD ANNUAL NORTH SOUTH 50 SSA SUPER SEDANS TO BE HELD OVER THE EASTER LONG WEEKEND.

The North South 50 has become a fixture on the sedan racing calendar after strong outings in 2022 and 2023.

The event was originally planned after the SSA National Super Sedan Title was held at Moama in 2019 to great success.

However, impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic put those plans on hold until two years ago.

The 50-lap event, held at the Heartland Raceway Moama, will see top drivers from across the country to flock to the region.

Moama | March 30-31
20 What’s On

“We expect cars from Queensland, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, and there might be one from Western Australia,” Heartland Raceway track manager David Roberts said.

The attractive $10,000 prize brings in the very best in Australian sedan racing.

“It pays more money than the Victorian Championship, so it attracts the top-line cars,” David said.

Last year’s event saw Queenslander Steve Jordan take out the race ahead of former Australian champion Callum Harper, multi time Queensland champion Matt Pascoe, Brad Pascoe, and Tyson Moon.

David expects this year’s field to live up to the quality of previous events, with a line-up sure to impress racing fans.

“We’ve already got the Australian champion entered, last year’s champion has entered, and the Victorian champion has entered.

“We’ve got the classy cars coming.”

Mural magic

THE ROCHESTER MURAL FESTIVAL IS RETURNING FROM APRIL 6 TO 14.

Each year, eight finalists are selected from around the country and internationally to descend on the town to paint a 2.1 metre by 4.8 metre mural to a theme. In 2024, the theme is I have a dream

“Eight finalists are competing from New Zealand, Tasmania, Queensland, Italy and Spain, who may be residing in Melbourne, but that is their origin, some from Bendigo and a local identity,” Rochester Mural Festival organiser Judy Anderson said.

“A wide variety of people are coming, and they will paint for a week, and you can come down and look at the progress.

“The judging will be by independent judges on the Sunday morning of the 14th in the Rochester Mural Park.

“We will also have the Rochy boards somewhere in

town, but we are not sure where yet.

“They are little boards that the kids compete, by painting, for up to $1000 in prize money. Adults can go in that as well.

On Saturday night, there will be a formal dinner.

“For the dinner on Saturday night, the artists reveal their mini murals, which they have submitted and then paint from those mini murals in the park daily,” Judy said.

All the murals are for sale, except the winning mural, as it becomes an acquisition hanging in the Mural Park with the line-up of murals.

Rushy celebrates yesteryear

THE RUSHWORTH EASTER

HERITAGE FESTIVAL IS

ON EASTER

SATURDAY, EXTENDING TO TWO DAYS WITH THE MOORA WORKING DRAUGHT HORSE DISPLAY ON EASTER SUNDAY.

There will be over 75 market stalls on the main street’s historic median strip on Saturday, March 30. An Easter egg hunt will be at the Rushworth Community House at 9 am.

Everybody is encouraged to participate by making an Easter bonnet for the Saturday morning competition, taking out the ‘best in show’ in the childrens’ or adults’ categories.

The Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival is for everyone, including our four-legged family members. Your four-legged family member can put their best paw forward and make their owners proud, dressing up or showing off their cuteness in the dog show.

At 1 pm, on Saturday, the highlight will be the annual street parade of vintage and historic vehicles that are steam, petrol, people or horse-powered.

Many parade participants will be available throughout the day to demonstrate their heritage skills and how life once was.

Returning this year will be the popular wood auction, run by Shearers for Kids with Cancer this year. Funds raised through auctioning firewood will directly support children and their families dealing with cancer.

On Sunday, the Moora Working Draught Horses will be at the Moora Reserve, Moora from 8.30 am. Everyone is invited to this free family weekend, well worth the drive to this historical gold and ironbark town.

The Rushworth Easter Heritage Festival is on Saturday, March 30 at High St, Rushworth from 8.30 am to 2 pm.

Moora Working Draught Horses will be held at Moora Reserve, Moora on Sunday, March 31 from 8.30 am.

The annual event returns on March 31 at the Echuca Harness Racing Club on Simmie St, Echuca.

Racegoers can expect all the usual betting avenues with the return of the Punters Club and TAB.

In addition to the on-track action, the Easter Cup is famous for its family-friendly entertainment.

“The Twilight Easter Cup is traditionally a familyorientated event for Easter Sunday,” club secretary Hope Gamble said.

“Our consideration is always with families, and this year there’ll be some big attractions, as well as the regular jumping castle, pony trots, etc.

“Bluey will be coming along, to keep the kids entertained.”

Kids of all ages can participate in what Hope describes as a “monster Easter egg hunt” with plenty of the sweet treats hidden in the beautiful grassed areas.

The Echuca Harness Racing Club has thought of everything for its big night of entertainment.

In the mood for a boogie? Head to the DJ on the lawn.

Plenty to do at the port

THE PORT OF ECHUCA HAS SO MANY EXCITING EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS COMING UP OVER THE AUTUMN PERIOD.

A temporary exhibition called Cats and Dogs, all at Sea, curated by the Australian Maritime Museum is on display in the Cargo ship until the end of May.

“Photographer Samuel Hood went on board numerous ships between the 1900s and 1950s, he took hundreds of photos of crew members with their animals,” Campaspe Port Enterprise chief operating office Mark Francis said.

“It started as a souvenir, they sent back to family, but they all had various pets with them on the boats.

“The theme of the cats and dogs and the boats is the thematic connection, around the port and on lots of boats we have found images of different paddlesteamer captains with dogs.

“The port had its own resident cat for a while, also its own dog.”

Echuca
36 What’s On

The Port of Echuca is still pet friendly, with guests being able to take their dogs on paddlesteamer cruises and through the museum.

Australian Heritage Month runs from April 18 to May 18, with the port hosting precinct heritage tours, every Sunday and Wednesday, from 11am for the month.

The port heritage tours will take you through some of the buildings at the port, looking at the colonial architecture and various heritage attractions. Over the month of the Australian Heritage Festival the Port of Echuca will also run the normal daily operations and paddlesteamer cruises.

A highlight of a visit to the Port of Echuca is a port after-dark tour conducted every, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

A one-hour journey back in time, a guided lantern tour of an evening, where you are taken back in time to look at the stories of the unexplained happens, ghosts and elements, with quirky stories of the port precinct.

“On top of port after-dark tours, we have our daily guided tours, which are a fantastic opportunity for people to understand the rich history within the port,” Mark said.

“They run every day, twice a day, subject to bookings. “That is about transporting you back to the early 1800s and through the life of the port.

“That takes you on a journey through our museum, through the working exhibits onto the wharf and then out into the port precinct, into some of the buildings in the surrounding areas.”

The Port of Echuca will host the popular Easter and school holiday programs, with various activities, music and displays to entertain and educate the whole family.

Entry to the Port of Echuca is free, with everyone welcome to wander through the site and onto the historic wharf.

The Port of Echuca, at 74 Murray Esplanade, Echuca, is open every day (excluding Christmas Day) from 9am to 5pm.

“Pilots and spectators can see us fly many different types of model aeroplanes — aerobatic, jets and helicopters,” Fred said.

“All kinds of model aircraft are welcome.”

Fred said the event wasn’t exclusively for aircraft owners — it could be enjoyed by the pilots’ families and other spectators.

“It’s good to see people like me enjoy the sport and the camaraderie.”

Refreshments will be available for both events with a canteen and coffee and tea on-site.

The come and try day is for anyone interested in model aircraft, with instructors, training aircraft and plenty of demonstration flights to experience.

“This day is aimed at attracting new people that might be interested in model aviation to come and try with the aim of them becoming involved in our terrific sport,” Fred said.

Sharing immigration journey

HAVE YOU OR YOUR FAMILY IMMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA AND SETTLED IN THE ECHUCA REGION?

The Echuca Historical Society Inc. is looking for people who have immigrated to the area to participate in a special exhibit for the National Trusts Heritage Month, April 18 to May 18.

The exhibit called From Where to Echuca; Connecting to the World will include items people brought with them as keepsakes and reminders of their homeland.

“Heritage Month gave the theme, connections, which could be many different things,” Echuca Historical Society Inc. treasurer Deidre Coombs said.

“We had already had a Mediterranean settlers’ exhibition and still had quite a bit of that collection available.

“Echuca has had a long history of families coming from all around the world to settle here, from places like Greece, Italy and all the other places around the Mediterranean.

“We thought we might expand it to include more people and cultures worldwide.

“A lot of people from regions like Asia and India have moved to the community in the last 30 years, and we thought it is a good idea to include them.

“We are thinking of contacting people that we know have immigrated to the area and asking if they have any special keepsakes that remind them of their homeland that we could borrow for the exhibition, put on display and share the stories behind the keepsake.”

Anything unique lent to the Echuca His torical Society as part of the Heritage Month exhibit will be displayed in the glass cabinet, under lock and key, to avoid getting lost.

“We do have a lot of stories, but they are historical stories, whereas it would be nice to have stories from people who have more recently moved to the area,” Mrs Coombs said.

If you want to share your or your family’s story of immigrating to Australia and settling in the region, connect with the Echuca Historical Society Inc. at the Echuca Historical Society Museum, Old Police Station, 1 Dickson St, Echuca, phone (03) 5480 1325.

Wings theme at art exhibit

THE ALTON ART GALLERY HAS THE BEST LOCAL ARTISTS’ WORK ON EXHIBIT AND FOR SALE.

The Deniliquin group, Art Life, is exhibiting its most recent works until the end of March.

Echuca Moama Artists Inc. members are taking over the gallery for April, May and June with their Easter exhibit Things with Wings.

“It can be anything, as long as it has wings,” Alton Art Gallery curator Veronica Lamb said.

“You have to be a group member to be in the Things with Wings exhibit.

“It is a bit hard to tell you what is in the exhibit because the paintings will not be delivered until the end of March, so I will not know the details until I see them.

“There will probably be fairies, probably birds, probably blue wrens, there seems to be blue wrens popping up everywhere.

“About 40 paintings in mixed mediums like oils, watercolours, and acrylics will make up the exhibit.”

Echuca Moama Artist Inc. membership is open to everyone, and new members are always welcome.

“There are generally around 35 members that make up the group and we have existed for over 70 years,” Veronica said.

“There are a lot of artists in the area, and our members come from all over the place Melbourne, Deniliquin, Kerang, Cobram, Shepp.

“For the Deniliquin ‘Art Life’ members exhibit, it is their latest work, so it is a combination of pieces.

“There are still lifes, landscapes, watercolours, acrylics and even pastels.

“I don’t think there are any oils, as people are not using oils as much these days.”

Alton Art Gallery is at 111 Hare St, Echuca, with opening hours Friday from 10 am to 2 pm, and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm, or by appointment, contact 0439 460 690. Entry is free and all paintings are for sale.

Enchanting tale to tell

ECHUCA-MOAMA THEATRE COMPANY DELVES DEEP INTO THE WOODS WITH THIS YEAR’S MAJOR PRODUCTION.

Following the success of Shrek last year and in keeping with the fairytale theme, Echuca-Moama Theatre Company has announced Into the Woods will open at Echuca Paramount on May 30. Co-directors Tamara Cadd, Mark Thomson and Sean O’Brien look forward to bringing Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical to life.

“It’s a captivating musical that weaves together the enchanting tales of the Brothers Grimm, where familiar characters face unexpected challenges and their deepest desires come to life,” Tamara said.

“It’s a magical journey that delves into the complexities of human desires and the repercussions of our actions.

“It explores the intricate web of consequences that arise as each character pursues their wishes and quests.”

In addition to its rich storytelling, Into the Woods poses a significant vocal challenge for the cast.

The musical demands high skill and versatility from the performers, who must navigate complex melodies and harmonies.

“In a vocal sense, Into the Woods is a massive musical challenge,” Tamara said.

“The score is intricate, demanding a range of vocal talents to bring these characters and their stories to life truly.

Five performances of Into the Woods will run from May 30 to June 2.

Tickets are available at Echuca Paramount.

Big bowls carnivals roll in

FOR THE FIRST TIME AT CLUBARHAM, A NEW BOWLS VICTORIA EVENT REPLACES

THE PREVIOUS OVER ‘60S STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS — 060 STATE CARNIVAL

Instead of only 16 bowlers participating, 060 State Carnival will enable hundreds of bowlers to participate in multiple events over seven days to win a state title and part of a $10,000 prize pool.

“Bowls Victoria O60 State Carnival is one of two state-level events we have secured for 2024 until 2026, with the other one being the Women’s Country Carnival Bowls, in October, which is secured until 2026,” cluBarham club manager Joshua Forster said.

“The over ‘60s Bowls Victoria state championship, the 060 State Carnival, is starting on May 20 and running through to May 26,” Joshua said.

“We expect 800 players across the week, plus their partners, to stay in the region and play in the bowls carnival.

“The O60 State Carnival and Women’s Country Carnival will occupy all bowls greens in the region.” Bowlers can participate in up to three events and three supporter events, including mixed pairs, singles, and men’s and women’s pairs.

060 State Carnival is restricted to bowlers who are members of a Bowls Victoria-affiliated club.

“We have had excellent support from the local clubs in the area that are part of the Northern District playing area group,” Joshua said.

“It is fantastic for the club and the region to bring that number of people to the area and start to secure larger sports events, firstly with the O60 State Carnival at cluBarham and then hopefully bigger and better things in the future.

“We will have a high level of volunteers from the bowling clubs in the Northern District playing area association, as well as from our own.

“We expect a large number of spectators, family and friends.”

Entries will be available soon on the Bowls Victoria website, and when available, cluBarham will also share with everyone.

Shake off winter chills

THE BIGGEST WEEKEND IN THE ECHUCA MOAMA MUSIC SCENE, THE ECHUCA MOAMA WINTER BLUES FESTIVAL IS RETURNING FROM JULY 25 TO 28.

Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival programmer Jon Howell is working hard to create an unforgettable line-up for this year’s Winter Blues Festival.

“2023 was the best year we have had in a long time, the response to the program was great,” Jon said.

“We had fantastic artists, and the attendance was way up.

“The weather was terrific, and the turnout was huge.

“There was a really good local turnout in 2023, which we tried to go for.

“We were trying to make the festival something that people living in the area and Echuca Moama see as their event and attend.

“We did that by putting on more free shows, that weren’t in pubs.”

Echuca Moama | July 25-28
48 What’s On

Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival is a free festival.

In 2024, the kids’ zone and community stages will return to Hopwood Gardens and the port area.

“It is really important for us to bring new people, younger people with their families and have engagement with the whole community, not just blues fans,” Jon said.

“We believe that the Winter Blues Festival is the most affordable, multi-day music festival you can attend, perhaps in Australia, certainly a blues festival.

“The fact you don’t have to pay to see any of the artists performing means you can visit and control

your budget, which I think is super important in this day and age, particularly right now.

“We are hoping that this year, the festival will remain affordable.

“You can stay in the best accommodation in town and eat out and be merry if you can afford it, and if you can’t, you can still come and enjoy it and be part of the action which is important to us.”

The Echuca Moama Winter Blues Festival will feature the best blues artists with local, Victorian, national and international acts. Book your accommodation now to ensure you don’t miss out on a toe-tapping good time.

Preserving steam-driven heritage

THE ECHUCA MOAMA STEAM, IRON AND TRADES REVIVAL CELEBRATES AUSTRALIA’S RICH HISTORY AND HERITAGE.

The event features everything from steam-powered machinery to blacksmithing demonstrations.

Hosted by the Echuca Steam Preservation Society Inc, the event returns to Echuca’s Rotary Park over the King’s Birthday long weekend on June 8 and 9. The event showcases Australia’s rich history and traditions by highlighting the machinery, vehicles and trades that built our nation while reflecting on the skills and passions of the people who toiled in the spirit of yesteryear.

Echuca Steam Preservation Society Inc president Ed Gibson has been fascinated with steam engines his whole life.

“We are aiming to host an event with a strong focus on steam, while also showcasing machinery, small engines, working horses and classic vehicles,” Ed said.

“A focus on lost trades will become a feature of the event in the future.

“Our motivation is to provide an equally enjoyable event for exhibitors and visitors alike with a strong family focus.

“We will be reviving machinery and trades from the past while incorporating food and music for the whole family to enjoy.”

From 4.30 pm on Saturday, the displays will wind up for the day with the focus moving to the Event Hub for a food, drink and music gala.

With so much to see and do, this festival is perfect for families, history buffs and anyone who loves a little nostalgia.

Daily tickets are available online, cash or card at the gate.

Pulling in a crowd

ELMORE TRACTOR PULL IS RETURNING FOR 2024, WITH THE ELMORE FIELD DAYS COMMITTEE, ST JOSEPH’S PRIMARY SCHOOL ROCHESTER AND THE DOWN UNDER MODIFIED TRACTOR PULLING ASSOCIATION PARTNERING TO BRING THE EVENT BACK TO WHERE IT ALL BEGAN IN AUSTRALIA.

The first Australian modified tractor pull was held at the Elmore Field Days in 1976.

Elmore Tractor Pull Committee member Grant Shawcross knows we are in for another big year.

“This year we will see an Elmore committee member get his new mini modified out on home soil,” Grant said.

“There may be a local open modified big tractor that is currently in the engine rebuild stage, and we are hoping to see the owner out on track for the first time since 1987.

“There is a chance that the engine on that tractor could be up to 2500 horsepower.

“We will see a large variety of tractors on display at our Agco Tractor Roundup, including but not limited to Massey Ferguson, Allis Chalmers and Fendt tractors.”

A tractor pull is where a modified tractor pulls a weighted sled along an 11 metre wide, 100 metre long dirt track.

As the tractor pulls the sled further, the more forward the weight is on the sled, causing the sled to get harder to pull.

When the tractor “pulls” the whole 100 metres it is called a full pull.

Tractor pulling is known as the most powerful motorsport because some tractors have more than one engine, some of which are over 1000 hp.

Elmore Tractor Pull will be held at the Elmore Event Centre on Saturday, March 16, gates open at 3 pm with tractor pulling starting at 4 pm. For tickets, visit: www.123tix.com.au/ events/40537/elmore-tractor-pull

Have a ball at Elmore

THE ELMORE SUMMER SEND-OFF BALL IS RETURNING FOR 2024, FEATURING FOUR OF THE BEST COUNTRY MUSIC ARTISTS, ON THE LABOUR DAY LONG WEEKEND.

Josh Setterfield will be headlining, with the Iain Archibald Band, Tyla Rodrigues on the main stage and exceptional talent Zara Lindeman on the day stage in the car park.

The one thing Lions Club of Elmore Charity ball secretary Hollie Hildebrandt would like to make clear to guests is they don’t have to come in a ute.

“You can bring whatever vehicle you like to come into the ball,” Hollie said.

“I know some people think ‘I can’t go because I don’t have a ute,’ but that is not the case, you can come in a car.

“People will bring tents and swags to sleep in or have rooftop tents.

Guests can bring their own drinks for during the day in the car park, no glass cans only, and then use their 10-drink wristband purchased with their ticket in the live entertainment area.

Your ticket provides a dinner of roast beef rolls and a Sunday morning breakfast of bacon and egg rolls.

The TAC Vanessa bus will be at the event on Sunday if guests wish to get a breath test before driving to ensure they are safe on the road.

There is a dress code, with guests able to wear whatever they like in the car park, but to go into the live entertainment, they must dress up.

“The guys have to wear black pants, a white shirt and a tie, and then the girls wear either a black or white dress,” Hollie said.

“So, a bit more prim and proper, you would say.”

Elmore Summer Send-Off Ball is at Elmore Events Centre on Saturday, March 9, gates open at 1 pm, with entertainment kicking off at 8 pm.

Tickets go on sale in early February, visit: www.facebook.com/elmore.bnsball

“It depends really, we have different category prizes through the Torrumbarry Fishing Club sponsors.

“Prizes can vary from fishing tackle to eskies to Dominican, Walco and Angle fridges, kayaks, and anything like that.

“We try not to have one big major prize, we try and share it around a fair bit so that everyone can get a bit of something.”

On-site there are three caterers, with woodfired pizza and burgers on Friday night, baked potatoes,
