veryone’s favourite family destination, Kyabram Fauna Park, is ready to welcome visitors this spring. The warmer weather brings with it a flurry of activity as the park residents shake off winter and get out and about ready to greet new friends. Call in this spring and see one of the park favourites, Heidi the Koala. This beautiful bundle of fur is growing up quickly and remains one of the park’s most popular residents. She’s giving brothers Kendi and Kay a run for their money, as this feisty little lass demands attention, and Heidi will feature in the Kyabram Fauna Park Koala Enclosure throughout spring. Don’t forget to call in and say hello to the beautiful pink cockatoos. The feathery duo Rose and Floyd invite you to their walk-through aviary home. And if you’re lucky, these two blushing beauties might even pose for a photograph or two. he Murray River is everchanging, river levels have again risen and the ‘narrows’ between the Barmah National Park and Murray Valley National Park have a taken whole new look. The river region is currently experiencing higher flows which will benefit the forest wetland environment. You can experience the worldacclaimed Barmah wetlands as those who chartered the waters before river regulation did with a Kingfisher Cruise. Hear fascinating commentary from your certified Eco guide about the hundreds of species of water birds, animals and native fish that have made the Barmah Wetlands and Forest their home, and about the myths and legends of this very special area. You will understand why they have been named Wetlands of
International Importance as you slip quietly across the water in the dappled shade of the world's largest single stand of River Redgum. The area is a wildlife haven for 236 bird species, 50 mammals and more than 500 plant species. o you have some spare time these spring holidays? Why not have a bra fitting at Numurkah? The might sound like an unusual holiday activity but Ragg Denn & Unmentionables Proprietor Heather Kelly says industry statistics show seven out of 10 Australian women are currently wearing the wrong bra size - this can cause discomfort, sagging breasts and back pain. She said it is vital for women to have their bra size checked after experiencing any significant changes to their size or shape. “Pregnancy, weight loss or gain,
surgery and an increase in sporting activity are just some of the situations after which women may find their bras no longer fit as well,” Heather said. A fitting only takes only eight to 10 minutes and the difference it can make to your level of comfort and support, not to mention the look of your outerwear, can be astounding. Ragg Denn & Unmentionables in Numurkah has three qualified bra fitters on hand to help you find your way into a comfortable, wellfitted bra this spring.

Magnificent Monichino Wines Café @ 3641
M
onichino Wines is a boutique, family run winery situated in the heart of the Goulburn Valley, Katunga, Northern Victoria - one of the oldest grape growing regions in Australia dating back to the 1880s. Founding father Carlo Monichino emigrated from Northern Italy in 1949 and together with his wife Margaret established the vineyard and winery in Katunga in 1962. Today Monichino Wines is a true family concern. Carlo has since retired from wine making and has handed this tradition down to his son Terry who manages the winery, while daughter Anna manages the cellar door and marketing. The Monichino Family Estate is committed to producing the highest quality wines by heavy pruning and supplementary watering which increases the intensity and natural flavour of the fruit. The high quality of the grapes produced by the vineyard’s 24 hectares of low yielding vines has produced premium wines of fullbodied aroma and richness. hat’s right sheep races. Shaun the Sheep will be back as ambassador and special guest of the second Vodusek Meats Yarrawonga Sheep Races being held on Sunday, November 1 from 11am at the JC Lowe Oval. Shaun had such a fabulous time last year it is now an annual ‘not to be missed’ event on his very busy calendar. The oval will be converted to a race track for sheep and what a great day of fun it will be. The track will only be 50 metres long because sheep don’t usually run like greyhounds and they prefer to run shorter distances. There will be six races, five heats and then the big 2015 Sheep Race Cup to see who is the champion sheep. There will be a Calcutta auction of the sheep prior to racing in the minor heats in an endeavour to claim a share of the individual heats $500 prize money. The winner will then be eligible to compete in the big 2015 Sheep Race Cup and share in the $1000 prize money. There will be plenty for everyone to do at this great family event. The annual Goods and Services auction will be held upstairs in the Yarrawonga Football Netball Clubrooms from 11am. Come and check out “K9 disc capers with Jeff and Brodie” showing off their fabulous Frisbee
throw and catch display, there will be live entertainment, stall holders, plenty to eat and drink, a “play all day” kids play area and of course the sheep racing. N
ever before has there been such excitement in the lead up to a fishing event than the upcoming 2015 Yamaha Cod Classic. With the amazing prize of a potential $1 million cash* on offer for anybody who can catch ‘Phil’ the specially tagged Murray Cod, you would be crazy to miss this iconic event held at the home of the Murray Cod, Lake Mulwala. An estimated 3000 plus anglers will be looking to share in the staggering prize pool that totals in excess of $150,000 plus the $1 million cash bonus*. An Isuzu D-Max Ute, seven boating packages plus a list of goods too long to mention will see the twin towns of Yarrawonga -Mulwala come alive over the weekend of December 4th to 6th. In its 16th year, the Cod Classic celebrates the opening of cod season and continues to go from strength to strength being a bench mark for many other tournaments to follow. The Fishing & Outdoors Expo will be a main feature with the chance to grab a bargain not to be missed. Other popular parts of the competition include iconic entertainer ‘Flathead Fred’ for the juniors, Cod Talk with Rod ‘Codmac’ McKenzie and Gus Storer, and the Samurai Rods Australian Pro
Don’t miss out on your chance to catch the big one. Casting Championships.
The Native Watercraft Australian Canoe & Kayak Cod Fishing Championships enters its fifth year
in 2015. This event caters for the new breed of fisherman who chose to fish from either a canoe or kayak and is a must for those who chose paddle and peddle over petrol and power.
Designed for the family with all levels of fishing skills catered for, everybody has a chance of winning one of the many great prizes on offer wether fishing from boat or bank, using either bait or lures. The majority of prizes are randomly drawn with entrants not having to have caught a fish to be a winner. Those that are lucky enough to register either a legal size Murray Cod or Golden Perch go into additional draws to win extra great prizes. There will be more than 1500 prizes (adults) and all juniors will receive several prizes. Entry fee - Adults $95 pre-paid, $100 on the weekend and juniors $50. This includes four meals, souvenir stubby holder, a free ticket in major boat raffle, Wilson Slickback Lure and Bassman Spinnerbait (for the kids), entry into 1000s of lucky door prize draws and the promise of a great weekend. Sharpen your hooks, pack the boat, grab your swag and baton down the hatches as the 2015 Yamaha Cod Classic is going to be huge. See you all in Yarrawonga / Mulwala for the chance to “catch a legend” in the mighty Lake Mulwala. *Conditions apply. Check web site for details. For more information check out www.codclassic. com.au

P
ut your feet up and enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee while taking in a guided tour of the Yarrawonga Mulwala sights from the deck of the MV Paradise Queen. Visitors and locals alike have long become accustomed to boarding the cruise boat for a sojourn around Lake Mulwala. With more than 20 years as a muchloved tourism fixture, the MV Paradise Queen is the perfect way for first-time visitors to get a feel for Lake Mulwala – the ‘heart’ of tourist activity in the twin towns. By taking a cruise early in their visit to Yarrawonga, guests can enjoy a relaxing lunch, afternoon tea or dinner on the water while at the same time learning about all Lake Mulwala has to offer in the way of leisure activities including fishing, waterskiing, photography, yachting and boating. A full cruise commentary also helps guests to become acquainted with the many accommodation and
entertainment options available in the area.
While tourists are visibly drawn to Lake Mulwala, situated at the end
of Yarrawonga’s shopping strip,
locals are also inclined to introduce
their visiting family and friends to the lake via a cruise on the MV Paradise Queen.
Please refer to our website www. paradisequeen.com for the current schedule.
The MV Paradise Queen is also a favourite with bus groups, with more than 200 groups from across
Australia stepping on board each year.
Functions are another specialty of the cruise boat, making it perfect
for parties, corporate functions, weddings, birthdays and special occasions.

See you at the Royal Mail and awards is only the tip of the iceberg. Chris Vakidis has a love and passion for great taste and it is reflected in every dish he presents. The difference is in his sauces and marinades which he lovingly prepares in house from scratch. When you are enjoying your ice cold beer, enhance the experience with a Teys Gold aged scotch fillet, or a decadent five-point rack of
lamb. If it’s something smaller you are after, try the chef’s Japanese curried scallops or creamy garlic king prawns – perfect complementary dishes to a pot of your favourite brew. See you for a pot, see you for a punt, see you for a parma or even a great pinot. See you at the Royal Mail.

The Terminus Hotel
Stop in and say hello at the Terminus Hotel in Belmore Street, Yarrawonga.
T
wo years ago The Terminus took on new custodians and we’re happy to say the ‘Old Girl’ is still looking after us. We hope in that time we’ve given her the respect she deserves with great food at a fair price, cold and fresh beer, pool and darts nights, a good bed for the night (or three) and of course a good old-fashioned welcome and appreciation for her business. Really when all is said and done the Terminus is an old-fashioned country Victorian pub, with oldfashioned values - just ask her locals. Every afternoon you can come in
for a chat or a game of pool, on
Friday nights meet with the salt of
the land as her local farmers gather for happy hour.
On Saturday afternoons come and have a laugh with her Punter’s
Club or take the chance to see some local artwork on display and for sale on her walls.
The old girl may meander a little,
like the Murray she’s on from time to time, but she’ll stay traditional just how we like her.
Cheers to The Terminus Yarrawonga - come and see what’s on.
Come and say G’day! $12 Lunch menu available every day (selected items) Tuesday Nights enjoy Parmas from $15 Friday night Happy Hour 5 ’til 7 special drinks offers and finger food

spring drive through the Rutherglen wine region would not be complete without a visit to the family owned and operated Warrabilla Wines. Renowned for producing quality whites, reds and fortifieds, Warrabilla is a must for those seeking the best wines the beautiful north-east has to offer. Andrew and Carol Smith founded Warrabilla Wines in 1991 and
moved to their current location on the Murray Valley Highway near Rutherglen in 1996. In 2012 they were joined in the family business by daughter Amy, a sixth generation wine maker. Together the family has forged a reputation for a commitment to wine integrity and quality control, subsequently producing some of the biggest, full-bodied reds in Australia and a small range of quality whites. With a dedicated team on site, the winery offers visitors the chance to taste and delight in the rich variety of wines at the cellar door, experiencing first-hand the Warrabilla signature style. Features of the Warrabilla range include the Reserve Label – a prime example of the winery’s finest and the Parola’s label – premium wine only made in great vintages from exceptional fruit with maturation in brand new oak barrels.
Furthering Rutherglen’s reputation for world-class fortifieds, Warrabilla also produces Muscat, Tawny and VPs (Vintage Port). The Warrabilla range is available at a reasonable price for wine lovers and the wine club is a great way for members and regular visitors to enjoy special offers and keep up with winery news. Five generations of Gehrig Wines food and great music overlooking the beautiful King River. The event is fully catered so be sure to book your table by calling 0357 273 395. When you pay a visit to the cellardoor, you may catch the Gehrig’s team hard at work, as there While visitors to Gehrig Wines enjoy the results, there is always plenty of hard work to be done.
J
ohn Gehrig, a fourth generation vineron, established our vineyard and winery on the banks of the King River, Oxley in 1976; only minutes from the Milawa Gourmet Region. John’s son Ross has taken on the challenge of guiding the fifth winemaking generation of Gehrig’s to craft some fine wines. Armed with a wine science degree, international winemaking experiences in Alsace, Burgundy and Israel, Ross’s obsession is producing the best grapes to produce wines of distinction that will pay homage to this iconic Northeast Victorian winery. In 2011, the allure of returning back
into John’s original birthplace – Rutherglen - was too strong, so Ross with wife Meghan, have expanded to a new vineyard and cellar door site in Gooramadda (east Rutherglen). With the weather warming up why not try a family-favourite Riesling at Gehrig Wines. Spring brings the vineyard to life with a blush of colour and promise of warmer weather to come. Gehrig Wines will help celebrate the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz on Monday, November 2, (Melbourne Cup weekend) with a special performance from John Luke Shelley and High Speed Steel at our Oxley Cellar Door. Relax with a glass of wine, great
are plenty of vineyard tasks to be completed. So, whether you’re a wine connoisseur or an interested novice, why not call in and see Ross and Meghan this spring at their historic cellar door at Gehrig Wines.
Spring is the season for honey
S
pring marks the beginning of the honey season for the team at Walkabout Apiaries. With the increasingly warmer days plants begin to flower, which stimulates hive activity and a rapid growth in bee numbers. After the long winter break bees are keen to get back to what they do best – making honey and by the time we’re all wearing shorts and thongs again beehives should be full of the bounty of the season. Once collected the team from Walkabout Apiaries cold extract and bottle the honey with minimal interference. Come try our seasonal honey at our
