C

o you think that you have a good knowledge of the Yarrawonga/Mulwala area? after all, you have visited the area year after year and enjoyed all the facilities this little piece of paradise can offer. but are you missing something? a vastly different perspective of the towns, the lake, the weir, the golf courses, fishing spots, camping grounds and farmlands is presented to you when you fly over the area in a two-seat open cockpit light sport aircraft, known as a t trike, with Yarrawonga Flight training. t Forget the short shadows and the heat of the middle of a summer's day, when the lake is the best way to cool down. Instead, choose to fly when the shadows are longer and the earth is cooler in order to see the subtle undulations of the farmlands and to experience the history of the Murray river in picturesque reality beneath you. Enjoy your flight in a new aircraft created in France in a subsidiary business to airbus industries, which builds the a380 airbus.

arrawonga Lollyshop is a lolly and chocolate lover’s paradise. Helen and Rodney Crawford will celebrate two years ownership of the lollyshop in October this year and are proud to stock Australian made chocolates and lollies, as well as sugar free varieties, plus Dutch and English favourites and even Dr Pepper soft drink. “We hope to bring in some new and exciting products very soon,” Helen said. “I have so many ideas and different items I hope our customers will enjoy, if you are here on holidays, please make sure you call in and say hello.” “We are introducing new lollies from time to time in our pick ‘n mix– it is a real favourite with everyone,” Rodney said. “I really want our visitors to enjoy their experience in our lollyshop – it is a fun place to be after all.” A wander through the shop engages your senses - sight, smell and taste, reminding many visitors of their childhood days. Customers often leave the store, arms laden with goodies, saying “I haven’t had that since I was a kid” or “do you remember when?” If you are celebrating a special event, the Yarrawonga Lollyshop now has

Lolly Buffet Jars for hire, along with scoops, tongs and cake stands. They also sell lollies in bulk so you can do it all in the one shop. You can pick-up all the items and setup the buffet yourself and after the big event just return all the items hired. The lollies can be purchased in bags or by the kilo. Helen and Rodney can also purchase single coloured lollies for your coloured theme event, they usually need a few week’s notice but are happy to help in any way they can. The Yarrawonga Lollyshop is open seven days a week during busy periods, including holidays and public holidays, so no one will miss out on a sweet treat. The store is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. You can find Yarrawonga Lollyshop at the bridge end of town diagonally opposite to the Yarrawonga Post Office. Look for the Yarrawonga Lollyshop on Facebook and Instagram where new items will be posted to keep you up to date. Customers are welcomed with a friendly hello, bright smiles and great service as they browse through the bevy of sweets available at Yarrawonga Lollyshop.

Five generations of Gehrig Wines

J

ohn gehrig, a fourth generation vineron, established the vineyard and winery on the banks of the King River, Oxley in 1976; only minutes from the Milawa gourmet region. John’s son ross has taken on the challenge of guiding the fifth winemaking generation of gehrig’s to craft some fine wines. armed with a wine science degree, international winemaking experiences in Alsace, Burgundy and israel, ross’s obsession is producing the best grapes to produce wines

of distinction that will pay homage to this iconic northeast victorian v winery. in 2011, the allure of returning back into John’s original birthplace – rutherglen - was too strong, so ross with wife Meghan, have expanded to a new vineyard and cellar door site in gooramadda (east rutherglen). with the weather warming up why w not try a family-favourite riesling at gehrig wines. w great results from a passion for winemaking have paid off, with the 2012 riesling rated 94/100 by James

halliday in the 2014 wine companion and just recently in the new James halliday wine companion 2015. the 2013 riesling has also kept its rating of 94/100 making John gehrig wines a 4 ½ star rated winery. w if you’re planning ahead, mark your calendars for the long weekend in March, 2015, when gehrig’s welcome visitors for the annual tastes of rutherglen. the event is t a must for wine lovers and food connoisseurs. in the meantime, why not pay a visit to the cellardoor this summer and

While visitors to Gehrig Wines enjoy the results, there is always plenty of hard work to be done. you may catch the gehrig’s team hard at work, as there are plenty of vineyard tasks to be completed ready for the 2015 season.

A later rise in one of the many fine accommodation options in chiltern will be greeted by the rich aroma of coffee percolating in the kitchen, or a nearby eatery. summer is also a good time to cycle chiltern and its environs. saddle. there are many day rides to neighbouring towns like rutherglen (wine) and beechworth (even more history) to entertain visitors. however, chiltern is the most photographed village in indigo shire and your day might just be spent with your camera and a guide map, making use of the great light a summer day offers. the occasional summer thunderstorm cloaks the countryside in another light. one of the great things about summer is that autumn is just around the corner and while summer days seem to go on forever while you are young, it is a time to catch-up with friends and family. You may even have “family” you did not know about in the area and the chiltern athenaeum and library is just the place to go to trace a long-lost relative or two. Elsewhere in town the local swimming pool provides respite from the hot sun. chiltern is a great place to spend your holidays – there is so much to do. Explore the rich gold history of the region and hear tales from the past explained on a walking tour through town. chiltern comes alive when you visit

You may choose to relax fishing at lake anderson – right in the middle of town or simply cloth-down and enjoys the ‘music’ of your flip-flops on a late evening walk. however you decide to spend your time in chiltern this summer rest assured there is something for everyone.
