This project is from a studio session from the department of urban and regional planning at Istanbul Technical University (ITU).
The primary approach used is the ‘big picture approach’. This refers to creating the intended ‘holistic’ feeling by gradually lowering the scale of observation till a harmony is achieved. (for instance, from building density analysis to the use of a color scheme for the facade finish of structures (if needed). Similarly, the gap between historical buildings are new structures are bridges through the proposal of structures matching the historical buildings.
As for the livability is increased through the integration of community parks to make the outdoor environment more inviting. In addition, the roads should belong more to people than vehicles, therefore, proposals for parking areas is brought forward. Last, new structures to be proposed should ensure that they follow the basics of physical environmental control.
