Cover FX Review

They have over 25 shades and the unique formulas provide a precise colour match, making it suitable for skin of all ethnicities. All products were developed by leading dermatologists and are free from parabens,

fragrance, gluten, talc and mineral oil, so this really is a ‘healthy’ foundation that helps to correct pigmentation, reduce redness and improve skin over time. Also it is a favourite among celebrity make-up artists as it gives the option of build-able coverage from sheer to full, creating flawless, natural looking skin.

amazing for covering acne, scarring, pigmentation, and tattoos making it a ‘saviour’ for some clients and helps to boost confidence levels as well as just looking great.

his is available in 24 shades and provides a sheer to full coverage with a matte finish; it has oil absorbing microspheres and moisturisers which means the finish is never drying or cakey. I usually set My TCC foundation with this to give it that extra coverage, however you can wear this alone for a more natural look. It is ideal for a quick “on the go” application and for those touch ups during the day to rid yourself of any excess shine. It can be applied using the sponge that comes in the handy compact or using the Powder FX brush £32.

I have helped many clients with Cover FX products with the TCC being one of my favourites, as it has such a dramatic yet natural effect. I especially love my “before” and “after” photos.

Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation £33

his was designed to achieve a natural finish with its smooth long lasting water resistant formula. It contains vitamins C and E which help soothe inflammation and aid redness. This has a sheer to medium coverage and gives such a natural glowing finish creating the appearance of beautiful skin. I would use the Liquid Foundation Brush £32 to apply, using soft blending motions, and build up in areas needing more cover. This foundation looks great on young and mature skins and is a celebrity favourite.

Anti Aging Primer £28

his is both a foundation primer and an anti-aging serum, as it repairs and hydrates the skin to help the appearance of fine lines and pores. The multi-peptide complex regulates skin repair and supports collagen production. Vitamins F, C and E are present to aid inflammation and soothe the skin along with chamomile extract. This primer also extends the wear of your foundation and helps it to glide onto the skin leaving it silky and soft.

Mattifiying Primer £28

his mattifying gel-primer with anti acne treatment helps to minimise the appearance of fine lines and pores over time, and also helps to extend your foundation wear. The salicylic acid helps to gently exfoliate and reduce sebum build up which helps to prevent and treat the skin again acne, blemishes and scarring. It also contains vitamins F, C and E which soothe inflammation and tone down redness. This is personally my favourite since it has genuinely helped my skin and I can see how well it preps my skin for the foundation. This is definitely a must-have item.

ModelsFor Campaign

by Hollie Wilkinson Please start off by telling us a little bit about Models For and the type of work you do.

Models For is a campaign organised by a group of around 17 models. Our aim is to raise money for terminally ill children. We do this in different ways, our models are available for photo shoots and music videos and the money raised goes to the campaign. We also attend a lot of events

across the UK including, Boxing matches, Cage fights, Football matches and Festivals where the girls can be used as ring girls or promo models and they also collect donations.

All the money we raise is donated to local charities and we are currently donating the money to a wonderful children’s charity called Wipe Your Tears. The charity does lots of wonderful things to help terminally ill children and their families including granting the children a last wish.

How much did you raise last year in total?

Last year we raised just over ÂŁ9800 from Septem-

Did you have one big event that brought in the majority of the money?

It’s a New Year and obviously another year of raising money, what’s in the pipeline for this year with regards to fund raising?

Well after doing so well last year we have set ourselves a 2014 target of £30,000 to raise. We will be organising some fashion shows as well as hosting a few

club nights. But watch this space!

Tell us your story, why did you start FSL?

FSL was started in 2012 when we saw a gap in the market for luxe loungewear and T-shirts with impeccable fit and quality featuring edgy, cool designs that can be dressed up or dressed down.

Where do you generally get your inspiration from?

We get our ideas from the people, atmosphere, fashion and diverse nature of London itself.

So many things inspire us - buildings, patterns, colours, music, words and places.

What is the inspiration for your current collection, then?

The current collection comes from different aspects of life and places in London- we have the cool, edgy designs like Go Big Or Go Home and the glitzy Meet Me At The Ritz t-shirt with silver studs and gold stitching. Our ‘Slumming It On The King’s Road’ jumper has been hugely popular and even worn on Made In Chelsea!

What have been the highlights so far?

The Clothes Show was amazing, we got to meet a lot of fans and customers and all the celebrities loved our designs! Working with the Models For girls has also been a highlight, it’s such an amazing cause and we are huge supporters of charity.

What’s next for FSL?

We are working on some fantastic new loungewear and also lingerie box sets! We are also working with PR and magazines to generate more publicity and get into more stores.

Any tips for a budding fashion designer?

I’m Salford born and bread and come from a big family. I enjoy acting and writing my own songs. I love shoes, clothes and quirky jewellery. I love fashion but I hate shopping.

What makes you want to work as a model?

Modelling is fun and is a job that can take you around the world.

What interests you in fashion?

To be honest I don’t read magazines, I know what’s in fashion and what’s not and I have my own style and I wear what I like regardless.

Be positive and confident. Don’t bring up in the conversation your ex boyfriends,

how annoying your job is or express your entire life story, baggage – this is an instant turn off.

Keep off your phone!

This is vital! Keep checking your Twitter account for the latest news and scrolling up and down your Facebook news feed is an instant no-no! Doing this on a date, especially your first one, shows lack of interest and boredom. Maybe being on your phone during the date tells you something and maybe think about whether you want a second encounter with your date!

Give a compliment to your date, it’s simple, it’s important and it works wonders! If they look nice, if you like their shirt, tell them!

What to wear on Valentines Day

by Dan Martin Valentine’s day, the very thought of it either makes you think ‘eww’ or ‘aww’ (for me honestly it’s eww). In February, love is in the air and all around us and whether you’re going for coffee, a romantic meal for two or on a holiday (I recommend Paris, beautifully romantic city), dates need to be organised, tables need to be booked

and this, of course, means new clothes and outfits need to be purchased (yes, guys, that include you too, make an effort for your lady). Here we go, some inspiration and some ideas for three different types of (hopefully good) dates you could find yourself on (good luck, ladies!)

Take me somewhere with white table cloths: The sophisticated and most dressy up date of them all, the white table cloth date. This one reveals a more feminine and beautiful side to your personality, and chance to get to know your date better (or to see if he knows which fork is which) just don’t order the snails (remember Pretty Woman, those things are slippery, little suckers).

How do you prepare for a new fashion shoot?

Each fashion shoot usually starts with a moodboard or concept either made by me or a photographer and continuously worked on around a model and make up artist to suit the theme. Then it’s a case of contacting PR companies or designers directly and pulling suitable pieces to sit in the story. TV and Film jobs work very differently and require a more structured brief and budget with designated prep days.

Stylist Interview Kerry Saxon Tell us a bit about yourself and your career so far, what path did you take to become a stylist?

I’m currently based in Manchester working freelance, mostly styling TV commercials, music videos and online virals. Also working for a couple of Manchester magazines for fashion features and spreads. I started out in 2011 assisting other stylists gaining on set experience and learning how to buy for character briefs before I was signed to PHA on their creatives books. So far I’ve covered TV, Film, Catwalk, Editorial and personal styling and work with indie brands/designers on their promotional and online materials and look books both locally and internationally.

Is the job as glamorous as people imagine?

I’d say this job is most definitely not glamorous! People assume it is because you get to play with fancy clothes and accessories but certain jobs can be quite stressful and the days can be anywhere between 6 and 12 hours long! However there is no better feeling than seeing your final images or video and knowing the hard work that went into it look so good! I do love my job and the variety of meeting different people and working in different locations, every day is something new!

Do you have any special tricks you’ve learned during your time as a stylist?

I have too many to mention! However a good basic styling kit is essential!! Safety pins and black marker pens have saved my bacon on numerous occasions. A variety of tapes and a small sewing kit will take you far in this industry! And always to be very observant and organised.

What are you inspired by?

I’m inspired by Manchester and the street culture that’s present in every corner of our city centre. There’s such a cool mix of vintage and high street, it’s all very urban yet fresh with a nostalgic feel. There’s always a creative buzz in the air and I love to see people doing fashion shoots in the street or sitting sketching the amazing architecture hidden behind the glass shop fronts. I do try not to follow fashion magazines and trends anymore as I find they can slightly drown your mind with images already out there stylized in a way intended to stick.

When working in TV we’re often referred to as ‘the glam squad’ and all hang around together on the same trucks. The thing with Manchester is that the commercial world is very small and so you do see the same faces a lot and start to build relationships with other creatives and freelancers from different areas of the industry.

How do you cooperate with the makeup artists?

I have a lot of respect for make up artists and the ones I’m lucky enough to work with! I’m more of a paint brush kind of girl so I like to see how they work and make their looks different from other make up artists. I work very closely with make up as it’s about

Does your styling for fashion shoots ever inspire your personal style?

Yes! And the reverse. I always prefer to style in a way that I could see myself in each outfit or something similar, I think that’s the natural part of being a stylist, it’s always down to personal choice and visions as no two people would have the same specific preferences. The same with menswear, I pull the looks based on how I’d want to dress for that theme and accessorising to my personal taste.

What goals and challenges do you have as a stylist, what do you want to achieve?

I have too many goals. I can be quite hard on myself In terms of workload, I can have anything up to 4 jobs on at once and continuously plan more shoots. I’m

not sure when I’ll stop. I kind of just found something I lived and ran with it, well running with it. There’s a lot of exciting plans in the pipe line for 2014 so hopefully there will be a few goals reached by the end of it and then it will be time to make more!

If you could style anyone in the world, anywhere in the world, who would you choose, what place would you choose and why?

At the moment I’m ridiculously fan girling over The1975 so I’d have to say them right now. As much as I love and live by the black/white basic grungy style they have I’d like to mix it up and pop them in some tailoring! The black velvet dinner jacket we featured in this issue is my new favourite thing and of all areas I’ve covered of styling, music videos are what I enjoy most. Who wouldn’t love a free gig and an indie boy in a suit!

What has been the most memorable moment for you as a fashion stylist?

I’ve got lots of memories that will stick with me forever, good and bad, but my favourite has to be the 7 weeks I spent in Spain in 2012 working on a feature film with a bunch of people I had never met, in a house in the middle of a nature park. I was over there as production design assistant covering the set and the wardrobe and loved every minute of it. After a 14 hour non stop day in the last week out there, to be lay on a lounger being mesmerized by how close the stars seemed and actually realising how much we had done and how big a challenge it had seemed was a feeling that will always be with me.

I met some great friends and we made a great film!

If you didn’t have any experience of contacts, but wanted to start working as a stylist on fashion shoots, what would you do?

Things like Twitter and Facebook can be great platforms if used correctly! Networking is a big part of my career and can be very helpful for sourcing clothing and accessories. There are Twitter accounts set up purely for new creatives to follow and

check for other creatives that are looking to collaborate on shoots and other projects to help build up a portfolio.

What qualities and skills one need to succeed in your job?

I think the biggest part of my job is to have a passion for it and to really understand exactly what the job entails, as it isn’t always the glamorous side it does involve hard work and dedication! The key skills for this industry are organisation and communication! Personality goes a long way on a film set especially in small crews and you have to be organised with your time when prepping and keeping track of receipts and budgets and sticking to calm times and schedules making sure all outfits are prepared and ready to use!

I’m a model and TV presenter and also work for the Models For Campaign raising money for terminally ill children.

How did you become a model?

I was scouted at the Clothes Show!

What interests you in fashion?

I love everything from high street to designer, and how clothing can make such an impact on people’s confidence and how different people put different styles together. There’s just so much variety and it’s great to see.

Kate Moss always looks good and just seems to throw things together perfectly. Victoria Beckham is another person I think is impeccably dressed, and Kim Kardashian dresses incredibly well for her shape.

What are your goals as a model?

How do you see yourself progress in this field?

I’ve modelled for years now and I absolutely love it. I’m always growing and progressing in modelling and I love to try new ideas that I may not have considered before, and that opens a lot of doors and possibilities.

What did your friends and family think of you becoming a model and are they supportive?

I love Grazia, Vogue (because I’ve been in there!), Elle and Look magazine.

What fashion/ modelling related TV shows do you watch?

I love America’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks is an inspiration!

Do you go to fashion shows?

You have no idea how good it feels to even just say that! So right now I’m busy setting some new goals...

What motivates you to continue taking pictures?

As well as my fantastical imagination and determination to succeed, I think the simple fact that without photography my life would just be all cups of tea and dogs. And I’m not quite ready to be a crazy dog lady just yet.

Model Interview: Milly Evans I’m Milly, a 25 year old alternative model from south Manchester; I became a model after I was scouted at the gym for a swimming pool shoot.

I love quirky fashion, things that are a bit different. I don’t like following the crowd things that are edgy and stand out.

I read allsorts of magazines when I have the time. I read Vogue, OK! and Cosmopolitan. I don’t really watch modelling/ fashion shows as I hate how nasty they can be to the models. Every woman is beautiful in her own way, who gets to decide who is good enough and who is not. It annoys me. I do catwalks but don’t attend other fashion shows other than that.

My favourite model is Georgia May Jagger: I love the gap in her teeth it’s just 48

My family are extremely supportive; I couldn’t do it without my boyfriend being there whenever I need him.

I have always had a passion for makeup whether it is personal, photographic, and theatrical or client based.

I have completed an NVQ in Makeup Artistry as well as Beauty therapy, which is how I progressed into becoming a makeup artist for Illamasqua, CHANEL and Christian Dior. I have now built up an established client base freelancing for photo studios, photographers, and work from my personal website: www.rebeccadutton.com.

I enjoy creating ‘out there’ looks and I believe as a makeup artist it is all about the unique, creative and striking work that catches the eye. This is how you are recognised in the industry and how style statements are made.

However, depending on my model and style I am versatile enough to create looks to suit whatever theme or client.

Who said ‘out there’ daring looks isn’t beautiful?

My future goals are to build up expertise within the industry and to work with the best in regards to models, photographers and clients. One of my top tips for the girls at home trying to achieve that ‘fresh faced’ look in a short amount of time

I like a good bargain It’s not easy in this so I like to mix it up industry and it’s very with high street and competitive, but if higher end brands, you work hard and but at the minute love what you do, it I’m loving my Clarins will happen. What interests you in modelling?

I enjoy trying on clothes and trends that I wouldn’t normally wear and getting my makeup professionally done! I love that modelling lets you play different characters and moods! It’s also a really good way to meet a lot of people.

What interests you in fashion?

I like how everyone has their own personal style. My wardrobe is mostly full of prints, one of my favourite designers is Mary Katranzou.

I also love 20’s and 30’s inspired designs (always watch Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge!)

Tell us about yourself.

I am a 21 year old final year fashion and textile retailing student at the University of Manchester.

I’m from Bath, I first got scouted when I was 15 in a queue for an underage night club!

What magazines do you read?

I have a subscription to Vogue for inspiration, but I love Look magazine as it’s so great for picking the best high street trends which I can afford as a student!

Makeup, Hair and Stylist: Nina Rochford ter until I graduate from University in July, and then I have the opportunity to possibly take it up full time for a few years to see where it takes me!

What fashion/modelling related TV shows do you watch?

I don’t have a television at uni but catch up on programmes like GIRLS, really excited to watch the third series.

I am also very sad that 90210 is finished forever Do you go to fashion shows?

Yes, I usually try to go to Bath, Bristol and Manchester fashion week! Hopefully, I can go to London fashion week this year!

Do you have a favour-

What did your friends and family think of you becoming a model and are they supportive?

My family have always been really supportive and love that I am now signed with J’adore!

They are just as excited as I am when there’s a new shoot to see the final photos! Especially my mum haha!

My favourite model at the moment is Karlie Kloss, really love how versatile she is, she never looks bad!

What beauty tips do you swear by?
