To whom it may concern, As an undergraduate student, a captain of a sport club and a human being, I know the struggle of finding the right balance to do many things all at once. So far I coped with everything but it kept on falling apart and then getting organised again. It is an annoying cycle which doesn't end as far as I realised. I want to become president of the MDXSU because I'm used to this never ending cycle and so far it has kept me alive. However, I want to be clear within this manifesto, do not expect me to give you all your promises and a love that you crave because this is not who I am. I live towards the concept of humanity. It is up to you to decide if you want to know who I am but be prepared. Thank you for reading! Best regards, Franรงois Essii.

Maria Rodrigues I would like to be your president .

I came to Middlesex to gain more knowledge about how children develop and the effective strategies practitioners use when working with young children.I have also developed many other skills through being a student voice leader which made me realise that being a student at Middlesex isn’t only about the qualifications you leave with but it’s also about the things you have done to develop yourself as a individual and develop interests outside of your programs of study. The changes I want to make are:

I would like to create study groups for all modules run by students so that students who feel shy to approach there tutors or may not see there tutors until later on in the week can

Academic

still discuss the questions they may have regarding something covered in either a seminar or lecture before they see there tutor. The study groups would also be a great place to

discuss assignments and different ways of structuring different types of assignments for those students which may be finding it difficult to structure there work.

I would also like to increase the number of partnerships between the university and different organisations /companies to allow students to gain valuable work experience and or internships in there chosen field of work. Campus

I would like to create a larger number of group study spaces on campus .This would allow students to help each other and work together more easily. I would also like to increase the amount of tables in the quad, this will create a larger social space where students can meet up and spend time with there friends . Students may

chose to run there group study sessions in the quad once more tables are added as this will increase the study spaces on campus and provide a nice social space for students to study in when the library is full. Welfare

I would also like to run a series of activity’s on campus daily so that students can speak about there own mental health and be able to engage in activity’s which improves there mental health like free exercise classes, art and craft workshops. Community

I would like to add printers in all halls so that the students who need to print things but cannot get to the library can still print any relevant work they may need.

I also would like to set up a university bus so that students who live in halls can easily travel to and from university and can easily visit friends in different halls of residence. If you would like to contact me send a email to the following email address: votemaria2018@gmal.com

I am serghio, 24 and I am in my last year of Business Information Systems (BIS). I am dominating myself because I am keen on assuring new students that Middlesex University would give them the right future and skills they need to prepare them for the careers they wish to start after their time at Middlesex University. I take pride in my appearance, I believe looking presentable can determine how a person is seen, being able to present a good imagine to new and existing students does affect the universitys reputation in terms on how many students decide to enroll with us. I am also keen on discussing the future of Middlesex and what strategies we need to use to attract more students and assure them a successful time at Middlesex. Communication is a strong skill I possess and keen on using it on my BIS course I am currently enrolled on.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS!

ABOUT ME... My name is Vinny Munbodh and I am currently a Postgraduate in International Relations (MA). I hold the role of the MDXSU United Nations Society President, a society which I have started here, at Middlesex. I am also a Voice Leader for my course. I have actively campaigned for Jeremy Corbyn and Momentum in the past, due to his unparalleled vision and ideals. I was part of ‘Team Corbyn’ and I actively help develop Momentum. I hold an Undergraduate degree in Politics with Economics (BSc), from Bath University, part of the ‘Russell Group’ of Universities. I am very much interested in the United Nations. I also have a Mental Health Condition – something which doesn’t stop me from achieving my ambitions and aspirations. This has also helped me understand ‘barriers to change’. Across are just some of the ideas I have for my SU Presidency 2018 Campaign! So if you want this all to happen, starting from next year, vote for me! Remember – Here at Middlesex – Your Voice Matters!!!

MY IDEAS FOR CHANGE... An Inter-Departmental Showcase Event My first idea revolves around showcasing the best work, projects and research from each department in a University-wide showcase event, to be held each summer. This would help give exposure and attention to what each department is working on, actively. Prizes would be distributed to the best ‘showcases’. This would be a great event to collaborate with your fellow colleagues, develop your skills and put on your CV! A Disability & Dyslexia SU Officer Mental Health is something close to my heart. I believe that the Students’ Union require a Disability & Dyslexia Officer. They would work closely with students needing their support, with campaigns already running such as ‘Stressed Out Students (SOS)’ and external organizations such as Mind, Rethink and Outreach, to help students on campus. The Model UN This is an idea I have had since starting here, at Middlesex. I believe if we bring the Model UN to Middlesex, it would greatly help our University status, exposure and accreditation. It is also a great platform to engage with students from other universities and even internationally, who are interested in the workings of the United Nations. A Winter Panto! This idea revolves around creating an end-of-year play or performance for all the societies and students to take part in, if you are interested. Kind of like an end-of-year ‘high school’ performance! Great to develop your social, interpersonal and performing skills! Better Internship/Practicum Opportunities Working with MDXWorks, I would create more opportunities for the Internship Modules and Practicums at MDX, and create more business links as well as with organizations and associations locally.

Let my actions speak louder than words At Middlesex I have been involved with the student union from time to time, with various jobs such as student voice leader for 2 years and it has gradually become my passion to get involved and give back and contribute to a union that has provided with me so much. These experiences have provided me with motivation to help make improvements to our student life.

Alternative food options by helping the nearby community (CafĂŠ, restaurants) to introduce student deals, which would essentially bypass the ongoing issues with our current university food suppliers.

Additional financial support to international students in terms of scholarships and loans.

Finally, you might have noticed that my manifesto has no concrete promises as to what I accomplished, this is because I believe that presidents usually do this to get their foot in the door without enacting any lasting change. I would rather sell the concept of a correct vice presidency and won’t use fake promises and gimmicks just to fill in the position.

David Temilade - VP of Health, Education, Science and Technology Get the G.I.S.T = Growth Increase Success Thrive

I am a regular student, the average joe, I simply want to be a voice for the voiceless. Being in the Minority Black Ethnic Group, I can relate to the struggle of a lot of people on campus. At the same time, living in halls 2 years in a row, I have lived through the same frustrations as students in halls of accommodation. I am very open to listen to people in any and all situations. I am the vice president of the Afro Caribbean Society and so communication skills are crucial in this role. I simply want to leave a positive mark on the university and ensure all of the students and staff in this institution get the G.I.S.T! Social Media:

Hello, my name is David Temilade, I’m a second year Sport and Exercise Science (Teaching and Coaching) student and I am running for the Vice President of Health, Education, Science and Technology role in the SU. I want this role because I have been privileged to meet multiple people from various backgrounds and listen to what they have to say about their university experience, pros and cons. From being heavily involved in the sports department, playing table tennis, along with being a Resident Assistant in Unite Olympic Way and being the Vice President of the Afro-Caribbean Society, I believe I have a wealth of knowledge in terms of things students are unhappy about within the university and so I want to be able to help all of these students and future students to ensure they fully enjoy the university experience and get the most out of university

Keynote Manifesto Points: 1. Health and Activeness. This is my first point and something that I found a lot of students had problems with. For example, that cant compete in sports teams on Wednesdays, I want to tackle this issue 2. Food. The food on campus is the next issue I want to tackle. The quality of some of the food still isn't up to standard and it can be very inconsistent. It is also far too expensive, we are all students at the end of the day.

I will

3. Housing/Halls of Residence. Having lived at Platt halls in my first year and being a Resident Assistant in Unite, I am well versed in the issues students at accommodation face and I want these to be addressed

I will

4. Rights and Entitlement. As students who live in London, there are a number of things that we are entitled to. For example, bursaries. There are bursaries the university provide, however they are poorly publicised and I want to ensure students receive the maximum financial aid possible from the university and the community.

I will

Vice President of Health and Education, Science and Technology

Urvashi Sumoondur (Ushi) Hi! I’m Urvashi, you can call me Ushi. I’m a final year Biomedical Engineering international student from Mauritius. I am the Student Voice intern at the Student’s Union and also a team member of Team MDXSU. Working with Student Voice Leaders and School Voice Leaders, I am very aware of the current issues that students face, a lot of which I have faced myself and would love to have the power to change them as your next VP, for the better!

What I will fight for: • Reducing grading bias by introducing doubleblind marking. Markers should be unaware of students’ identities and each other’s allocated grades while marking assessments for fair practice. Many other unis do it, why not us?

• Providing help with placement opportunities by

1. increasing the involvement of academics with the employability services. 2. having students who have been on placements to act as a guide for prospective students.

• Having 24h access to the Hatchcroft and the Ritterman buildings These buildings currently close at 10pm which causes inconveniences to students, who could greatly benefit from this.

• Have common rooms with computers equipped with specialised software.

There are only about 4 rooms on campus with all specialised software (ex. SolidWorks). Students who need these software struggle to find a free room. A common room where students could just walk in and do their work, would solve this issue.

• Finding a solution for current car parking issues.

Lack of parking space affects the majority of the university population including academics.

• Taking ownership of food and catering on campus. Led by the Students’ Union, catering can offer cheaper food options and part time jobs to students!

• Decrease amount of paper cup waste by making hot drinks cheaper if students bring their own cup.

• Free graduation! • Introducing an instalment plan for international students!

Only home students currently have the right to a tuition fee instalment when international students pay higher fees. This has to change.

• Better representation of international students in the SU.

MDXSU rarely has international students as Sabbatical Officers. I want to change this!

Victor is an articulate refined team player, A post graduate student of Computer network and network design school of science and technology. I am the serving student voice leader for network design and performance evaluation CCE4310. For the past five months I have attended two major school board meetings with other programme leaders deliberating on issues affecting each module based on student feedback and general concensus and proffering potential solutions. I am nominating myself for the position of the vice president school of science and technology. when elected as the vice president, in the first three months based on feedbackfrom my student voice leaders, I will develop and implement a dynamic feedback system for student to receive automated feedback as reminder on course work deadlines and their academic performance evaluation. I believe this system of feedback will solve the problem of meeting deadlines and eliminate the last-minute pressure on student thereby getting regular individual update on academic performance. Furthermore, I will propose for each Postgraduate student in the school of science and technology to have remote access to the lab facilities. Which include Computer Networking, Telecommunication, and Penetration Testing. This will enable individual student to carry out their research work form anywhere without necessarily coming to the lab even during school holidays. When such policy is implemented it will enhance student research skill performance and to help student meet project deadlines Secondly, I will propose an automated follow up system to the school board whereby attendance is automated and students are followed up via a feedback system that get update each time a student misses class. This will enhance student performance in class and encourage them to attend lectures as required by the timetable therefore creating more value for individual student. Thirdly, within six months as a vice president, i will develop a mobile application that help student who are addicted to smoking to monitor and control the level of nicotine in the blood thereby reducing the level of addiction within the campus and the local community with the world at large. However, this mobile application will be named as Smoke Doctor. Fourthly, based on the feedback from my student voice leaders I will propose for the extension of laptop loans to one week per student. This will allow student to do their assignment and other academic work at home without using the computer facilities at the university site Lastly, over 140 nationalities are represented in Middlesex university London and majority of them don’t travel back to their various countries during holidays. However, based on the feedback from student voice leaders at Hendon campus, i will use my office in collaboration with the president to propose for the availability of the compuetr lab at Ritterman building 24hours operation during school sessions and holidays. This will allow student to have access to computer facilities to enable them carry out their research work and lab work. Therefore, meeting deadline as required, this will also give 24 hours access to student using the microwave facility at ritterman building. All this stated above will lead us us to the big question; why you should vote for me? You should vote for me in this coming election because i am the candidate for change. I stand for the interest of the student and i have been proven capable to deliver the promise as stated above from the experience as a student voice leader. You should vote for me because i have been tested and trusted by my fellow student as a student voice leader. I have all the experience it takes to bring the changes to improve the feedback and follow up system currently existing in the university. You should vote for me because i have the mental strength to serve and the creative mind and ability to take Middlesex university student union to the next level. Thank you for reading my manifesto, and I encourage eligible voters to go out and vote via the MDXSU voting system.
