Shop Smart
Get a 16-25 Railcard and get a third off your normal ticket prices, if you plan on getting on the train frequently (or infrequently) a Railcard is a no-brainer.
Buying store-branded products rather than premium brands can cut prices in half or more. The contents are often extremely similar; the only difference is the ludicrous price gap.
Open a student account (available at most banks), which are simply bank accounts made for students. They let you pay money in & out, and offer additional benefits such as an interest free overdraft.
Middlesex was one of the first universities to offer all new students a FREE NUS Extra Card, now known as TOTUM - saving you £12 and getting you access to a ton of discounts. Use it when you’re eating out, dining in, going to the cinema or buying online. Find out more at www.mdxsu.com/TOTUM
in the way of your studies. Here are a few tips on saving those pennies.
You never know what life’s going to throw at you, so it’s always a good idea to keep some money saved up. You might miss it, but you’ll be thanking yourself when something happens and you’re prepared to deal with it.
Try to do your food shopping later in the day (ideally an hour before closing) when items that go out of date the following day will be heavily reduced. The reduced section is also for products with damaged packaging or minor faults – there’s bargains waiting to be snapped!
Buy in Bulk
Buying in bulk is often cheaper and if you live in shared accommodation, buying necessities, like toilet paper and splitting the cost could knock a big chunk off your weekly bill – what’s the point of two-roll packs anyways?!
