We are fortunate to be in an area with such a dynamic food scene—and a vast diversity of cuisine, ambiance and concepts to go along with it! We produce this guide—in conjunction with Meadowlands Media, Meadowlands Live! | Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Meadowlands Chamber—to provide our residents, visitors, meeting planners and corporate audiences with a tasting of some of the best dining, drink and entertainment options in the area. The directory offerings in this guide are of a wide range. We present you with a selection of eateries, four-star ranked restaurants, event venues, pizzerias, diners, caterers for your own events, bars and of course a multiplicity of ethnic cuisine. In this edition, we’ve expanded our geography and directory listings to cover more ground and explore more options. We have also separated our caterers and venues and included tips for the critical questions you’ll want to ask venues prior to your next event. This feature can be found on page 20. In addition, on page 30 we also look at some attractions and entertainment options for before and/or after dinner. It is our hope that this guide will help you find a new local gem right in your backyard! 50 questions to ask When selecting a venue for your next big event

With so many venues to choose from, searching for the perfect spot for a corporate or personal event can be an arduous, grueling process. Once you’ve planned out the needs and specs for the event and are ready to start looking at venues, having a list of pertinent questions readily available can help facilitate the process. Here is a list of key questions, divided by category, to help you lock down the right venue choice for your next big event:

Availability of space 1. Is the venue available on your desired dates and times? 2. Will other events be held simultaneously with yours? 3. Is there a premium or discount for booking during certain times of the year?

Venue location

4. Is the venue convenient for our guests in regard to travel and accessibility? 5. Is this a destination venue that will be attractive to guests? 6. Have many guests have already many events at this venue? Will this enhance or take away from the perception of the event?

Price & policies

7. Is there a cost difference between busy season and off-season? Will this impact your plans? 8. Is there a difference between weekday and weekend pricing?

What are the venue’s policies and contractual language on refunds, guarantees and culpability in case of cancellation, damage, force majeure, etc.?

15. Can the space comfortably fit the estimated number of guests for your event? 16. Can the venue accommodate your event, consider all the potential activities for the event youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re hosting (registration, cocktails, eating, dancing, registration, meeting spaces, trade show space for corporate events, etc.)? 17. Does the space have flow and continuity that youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re looking for? 18. Can the space provide or accommodate any large items or staging equipment that you might need? 19. Are there any special restrictions that the venue has when renting the space?

Catering & vendors

20. Does the venue have its own on-site catering? 21. If so, what are the specialties, menus, recommendations? 22. Does the allow outside vendors for other services (food, dessert, music, entertainment, flowers, AV, photography, etc.)? 23. If so, does it have preferred vendors (and what is the surcharge for using outside vendors)? 24. How experienced are the catering manager and executive chef in the cuisine/fare youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re looking for? 25. Are there food and drink minimums and, if so, what are they?

Reputation of the venue

26. Do you know anyone else who has hosted a similar event at this venue? 27. Can the venue provide you with references of people who have hosted similar types of events? 28. Are there photos available that might showcase the space being used in the way you anticipate using it? 29. What do other event professionals or local organizations think of the venue?

Utilities

36. Does the space have adequate outlets and lighting? 37. Will natural light in the space interfere with programming? Is there a way to shade it if necessary? Be sure to keep in mind the time of day your event is being held. 38. Does venue have adequate heating/cooling systems to create a comfortable environment?

AV & acoustics

39. What kind of public address and music amplification requirements does the venue have? 40. Are the acoustics right for your event purposes? 41. Is the space wired correctly for the audio visual you require? 42. Are there additional costs for AV? 43. Are there preferred vendors for AV and music that have experience operating in your place?

Weather

44. Some venues are more prone to being affected by seasonal weather issues. Will this impact your venue of choice at the time of year your event is?

Security & privacy

45. What kind of security personnel and equipment does the venue provide for its guests? 46. Is there the ability to shield the event from public view? 47. Are there spaces that could offer privacy to guests and participants?

Parking & transportation

48. Does the venue require valet parking? 49. Is there ample parking for your guests? 50. If you have guests are arriving from out of town, are there transportation options to get them to and from the venue?

Corporate amenities

30. Does the venue allow for event signage to be prominently showcased in the ways you need it to? 31. Can the venue provide recommendations for ways that sponsors can receive added value? This can enhance your sponsor satisfaction. 32. Does the venue have concierge or information desks to help guests as needed? 33. Is there a business center on site? 34. Are there shipping or receiving services or personnel? 35. What other corporate amenities might you need to arrange with the venue?
