Severe weather warning Bosch: Taking video security to the extremes

“When it comes to safety and security everyone deserves to live in a safe and secure environment. This is why Bosch pushes the boundaries of technology to develop intelligent network video security solutions that constantly raise the bar and set new standards in security and data management.”

I

t is our goal to deliver highest quality of relevant video images for all kinds of security and safety applications anytime, anywhere. By using built-in cutting-edge intelligence and video analytics, our video systems simultaneously ensure that big video data remains manageable, network strain and storage requirements are minimized, and video data is secure. Punishing winds, relentless rain, huge temperature fluctuations, clouds of dust or high-impacts. – No matter how tough conditions get, a video security operation must always go on. Without interruption and with minimum on-sitemaintenance. This is why Bosch has taken extreme measures in continuously developing its robust moving (PTZ) network cameras. We’ve combined all our expertise in mechanical engineering and IP video surveillance into a single solid camera design. The MIC IP starlight 7000 HD PTZ cameras are built to resist practically everything: from heavy weather and high-impacts to fog, dust, intense heat and freezing cold. They are engineered to work in places you never want to go. Their solid metal bodies withstand high-impact (IK10 rating) or continuous low-frequency vibration (IEC 60068 rating). The new MIC IP starlight 7000 HD cameras withstand everything nature can throw at it, like temperatures from -40 ˚C to +65 ˚C or even +74 ˚C according to NEMA-TS2 , severe winds and 100% humidity. The superior metallurgy and finish

of the MIC IP starlight 7000 HD cameras provide unprecedented protection against corrosion. Each MIC IP starlight 7000 camera delivers the highest quality of relevant video images in the most challenging environments. The Intelligent Defog feature, which can be activated manually or automatically, improves visibility when viewing foggy or other lowcontrast scenes. The integrated silicone wiper and washer keeps the glass clean and the Windowdefrosting function makes sure MIC IP cameras capture the highest quality video no matter how cold it gets. MIC IP starlight cameras provide HD video even in extreme low light conditions (down to 0.0008 lux in black/white mode) and clear color images (down to 0.0077 lux) where other cameras would have already switched to monochrome. Fast moving objects can, depending on the model, be captured in 720p HD resolution up to 60 frames per second or in 1080p HD resolution up to 30 frames per second. The excellent dynamic range of the cameras of up to 120 dB and intelligent backlight compensation technology ensure that (moving) objects of interest can be easily identified in scenes with simultaneously bright and dark areas. Video can get shaky when zoomed in at high detail; this is dynamically reduced by the built-in Image Stabilization technology, resulting in exceptional image clarity and stable shots on the surveillance monitors. The built-in Intelligent Dynamic

Noise Reduction technology saves up to 50% bitrate at the source, which significantly reduces storage costs and network strain without compromising video quality. The optional VIDEOJET connect 7000 allows users to use Dynamic Transcoding technology from Bosch, giving instant 24/7 access to smooth live streaming video and high resolution images of up to 12 megapixel on mobile devices, regardless of available bandwidth. Because they operate in such harsh environments, Bosch has specifically designed the MIC IP starlight 7000 HD cameras to be heavy duty but light on maintenance. Remote firmware updates can be done from anywhere. The virtually indestructible housing and the self-cleaning ability prevent service visits to the critical locations the MIC IP starlight 7000 HD cameras usually operate.

Easy installation The out-of-the-box installation allows installers and system integrators to pre-program the MIC IP starlight 7000 HD camera while it is still in the box. Thanks to MIC DCA mounting accessories the installation becomes even easier. Simply ‘hook’ the MIC to the DCA mount using the hinge feature and safely connect the electrical wires to the camera. The optional VIDEOJET connect 7000 supports High Power over Ethernet to connect multiple MIC IP 7000 HD cameras, which makes it an ideal configuration for installations along perimeters or highways. g

Cameras with Intelligent Video Analytics are also extremely resistant against shaking caused by punishing winds, city traffic or bicycles parked against the camera pole. Despite extreme locations and lighting conditions, the MIC IP 7000 HD family provides you with the best possible image all the time. Thanks to the optional illuminator, objects as far as 300 meters away in complete darkness are captured perfectly. Losing track of objects of interest is simply not an option. The built-in Intelligent Video Analytics technology ensures Intelligent Tracking, which automatically tracks moving objects based on predefined alarm rules or a simple click. By intelligently distinguishing between single and multiple reference points, Intelligent Tracking will provide uninterrupted tracking.

4 I November 2016 I IN Security

Intelligent Video Analytics and MIC IP starlight 7000 HD cameras the ideal combination Intelligent Video Analytics is specifically designed for the most demanding environments, a state-of-the-art solution for the ultimate in video analytics. Ideal for mission-critical applications like the perimeter protection of airports, critical infrastructures and government buildings, border patrol, ship tracking and traffic monitoring (e.g. wrong-way detection, traffic counts, monitoring roadsides for parked cars). What makes Intelligent Video Analytics stand out from the other video analytics solutions is its ability

to differentiate between genuine security events and known false triggers such as challenging environments with snow, wind (moving trees), rain, hail, and water reflections. Or applications that require video content analysis over large distances. Cameras with Intelligent Video Analytics are also extremely resistant against shaking caused by punishing winds, city traffic or bicycles parked against the camera pole. All situations that could make video data more difficult to interpret. The MIC IP starlight 7000 HD cameras endure just about anything and truly take video security to the extremes n

Digifort integrates with more manufacturers’ cameras than any other VMS and supports edge recording and edge analytics Digifort has announced that its open platform VMS and analytics software now integrates with more than sixty leading CCTV manufacturers’ equipment. The integrated brands include HikVision, at the low-cost end of the market, through to Avigilon and Axis at the high-cost end. Each manufacturer has comprehensive fixed camera and fully functional PTZ ranges, giving more than 6,000 integrated cameras in total. A number of video servers, NVRs and DVRs are also integrated. “Digifort has made it a priority to enable SDK integration with over 100 manufacturers’ cameras,” explains Francois Levy, Digifort Business Development Director for EMEA. “We offer generic ONVIF integration, like other leading VMS platforms, but only the SDKlevel integration allows the in-depth functionality we prefer. Typical functionality includes telemetry control, auto-focus zoom, presets, patrols, privacy zones and auxiliary functions such as lights and wipers. However, unlike most other VMS suppliers, we also enable edge recording, edge analytics and edge ALPR from within Digifort’s VMS, if supported in the cameras. This maximizes the potential and performance of an integrated Digifort system. “Multiple video stream processing, with optimized resolutions for recording and viewing devices, is

6 I November 2016 I IN Security

standard. Many camera features can be remotely configured from the VMS using the global ‘push’ command functionality for simultaneous, multicamera set-up. This is ideal for large-scale system management. Also, Digifort’s unique two-way audio functionality, if supported by the camera, includes a ‘listening’ feature, where noise above a designated threshold can be used to trigger an alarm, such as from an intruder. Alternatively, an alarm can be raised if an otherwise noisy site becomes quiet, such as for production line and process monitoring.” Many manufacturers’ DVRs are also integrated with Digifort. This is to allow the simple and costeffective encoding of analogue and TVI cameras into the IP-based, VMS platform. This integration is ideal for systems migrating to IP or where analogue cable infrastructures must be re-used. Digiforts’ other video analytic functions include traffic management (speed filter), object tracking, loitering, virtual fence, missing object, abandoned object, face detection and recognition, vehicle counting and people counting. Urmet releases new-generation Request to Exit Switches The new Urmet Request to Exit switches outperform break-glass systems by being resettable

Urmet have developed stainless steel emergency exit switches as an alternative to conventional break glass units which are prone to abuse and vandalism. The switches meet the guidelines of Secured by Design (SBD), the UK police initiative that combines the principles of ‘designing out crime’ with physical security technology. The new units feature a button that acts in the manner of a conventional break glass by allowing the user to cut the power to the lock on a controlled exit point in an emergency and gain egress. Urmet have developed two switches, the RTE14 (surface mount) and RTE15 (flush mount). The switches out-perform break glass by being re-settable. Use of the emergency ‘Press to Escape’ button triggers a timing circuit which in turn breaks the power to the release. According to user preference, the door will automatically relock after 1, 6, 12 or 24 minutes. This secures the building again and eliminates the need for a visit by an engineer or estates manager. The RTE switches deliver both cost and safety benefits since several surveys have shown that on average, a compromised conventional break glass is only attended to after 24 hours.

Urmet has developed the switches to maximise security at residential accommodation. Likely controlled access points for deployment include stair cores (particularly prone to misuse), main communal doors, car parks, cycle stores and any other door where residents use a card or fob reader. Mark Hagger, Urmet’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “The precise code we’ve adhered to is Secured by Design HOMES 2016. Urmet takes pride in following these directives and I know of only one other manufacturer in our sector who is making similar efforts.” He continued: “The capital outlay in developing products of this kind is considerable both in tooling for the enclosure, timing device, resetting system and creating the printed circuit board (PCB). We’re underlining how seriously we take resident safety by investment of this kind.” The RTE14 and RTE15 exit switches are suitable for use with fail safe releases and maglocks. Urmet has aimed the switches at consultants who wish to meet the latest Secured by Design guidelines and include these in the tender process for installers. If required, the switches can be set so that a built-in buzzer will sound to indicate that the door is ajar or open. The buzzer sounds to indicate that the emergency exit system has been activated and will stop once the system has reset. The emergency exit device requires a 12V DC power supply. The RTE switches feature a foreman’s override and an input for any normally-closed auxiliary devices. Secured by Design encourages those engaged within the specification, design and build of new homes to adopt crime prevention measures. Increasingly and with Urmet taking a lead, the recommendations are being adopted in most types of residential developments including housing estates as well as low and high-rise apartment blocks. Aiphone JP video intercom systems deployed at French Job Centres Aiphone has been entrusted by the French government to provide video intercom systems for 450 Pôle emploi job centres. Pôle emploi is a French governmental agency which registers unemployed people, provides social benefits and helps them find jobs. It also offers opportunities for companies to hire staff. The agency was created in 2009 as a result of a government pledge to reduce the unemployment rate. Aiphone JP video intercom systems have been installed at each of the 450 Pôle emploi offices located throughout France in order to control access to the job centres as meetings with those seeking work are only conducted in the afternoon by appointment. Each of the Pôle emploi offices are being equipped with a JP video intercom solution comprising two or three 7” touchscreen room stations, but there is the option if required, to expand this number to eight. The JP system comes complete with a built-in 170 degree wide angle camera which when combined with digital pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ ) functionality, eliminates blind spots ensuring Pôle emploi staff can always see who wants to enter their offices. It also records up to

20 calls on its internal memory or up to 1,000 calls on an optional removable SD/SHDC to enable staff to review the identity of visitors, whilst users can choose to have hands-free communication or use the room station handset to protect the privacy of the visitor. Antoine Pelloux, Marketing Manager for Aiphone in France said, “Most importantly, the JP system complies with the France’s Accessibility Act in terms of the field of view of the camera built into the door station which also offers audio and pictogram guidance. Ease of use was also a key requirement and the touch screen room stations with large buttom and icons for quick, intuitive navigation and control, have therefore provided an ideal solution for this project.” For more information on the Aiphone solutions available in the UK, visit www.aiphone.co.uk or call Tel: 0207 507 6250 n

Smart access control solution: Locken – securing multiple, electrical French sub-stations LOCKEN has just transformed the access security of electrical power stations throughout the large French region, Ile de France, following a contract with leading French electricity provider Enedis. Providing 24/7 smart security access with full traceability, LOCKEN has successfully replaced the original mechanical cylinder systems at up to 80 substations with its advanced intelligence security systems. For Enedis it was essential that its security solution was able to provide restricted site access to a growing list of authorised personnel – from maintenance teams to technicians. Couple this with the highly sensitive nature of the sites with high-voltage lines; a proven access control solution was needed at every single site. “The challenge of securing multiple-sites, where access authorisation is required in order to protect people, goods and information, has never been more crucial than it is today.” Philippe Kellermann, head of operations at Eastern of Ile de France for the Enedis Group explains. Delivering robust and traceable access control, LOCKEN’s solution is based on a smart key and passive cylinders incorporating a power source which enables access control and tracking from one smart electronic device. Each smart key holds a unique serial number, which cannot be duplicated but can be reprogrammed, enabling it to open one or all access points. Crucially, due to the remote access of the sites and hazardous environment, it was paramount that a key could be suspended quickly if lost, while allowing for one-time

12 I November 2016 I IN Security

access to people in a position outside the usual area of operations. Significantly, while enabling quick access, the power-free, electronic cylinders cannot be picked. With admission rights provided by the key and data recorded within it, electronic locks provide vastly increased security compared to any other access control solution on the market and, in the event of loss or theft, can quickly be disabled. Full audit trails, through a Bluetooth key combined with the MyLocken App, provide management with full traceability access authorisation. “Our sites are predominantly located within isolated areas a considerable distance apart; consequently electrical substations are vulnerable to security risks, including vandalism and theft, so there is a greater requirement for surveillance.” Explains Philippe Kellermann. “Management of these sites need the ability to control where and when an individual is authorised to enter, making monitoring and controlling access points more prevalent than ever. Through the Locken solution, security managers can receive reports about potential dysfunctions enabling them to respond quickly.” “LOCKEN’s expertise has enabled us to work in partnership to find a solution that not only replaces our outdated mechanical cylinder system with little modification to infrastructure, but allows us to meet our business continuity objectives and utilise the latest technology to gain full control of data and access rights.” For more information please visit www.locken.co.uk, find us on LinkedIn or telephone 0203 691 1610. n

Redvision cameras help Secure Poole and Bournemouth FE college campuses Redvision has played an important part in the protection of Bournemouth and Poole FE College, which has recently received a £12 million investment for upgrade and modernization of its campuses. The project included constructing brand new buildings to house a Digital Media Centre, a Performing Arts Centre and new science laboratories, as well as upgrading and renovating existing buildings across both college sites. The campuses are used by a combined student population of over 10,000, so are extremely busy throughout the academic year. The project also included adding innovative new roof panels to generate solar electricity for the college, supporting the local authority’s commitment to improved sustainability. Secure Alarms Ltd, established in 1979, is responsible for installing and maintaining the college’s security systems. Secure Alarms selected Redvision, the UK manufacturer of the X-SERIES™ rugged PTZ dome cameras and Redcop™ rapid deployment systems, to supply all external PTZ cameras. Rob Cutler, Director at Secure Alarms, commented, “We rate Redvision very highly. The technical support offered, as a manufacturer, is second to none. They have expertise on all their products and know what items best suit our requirements and those of the college. The cameras are extremely energy efficient, with a low cost of ownership, so meet the local authority’s green responsibilities.” The newly-overhauled college site at Poole has 39 indoor cameras and 16 outdoor cameras, 8 of which are Redvision PTZ’s. The Bournemouth site has 29 indoor

and 25 outdoor cameras, 5 of which are Redvision’s. Most of the indoor cameras are IP and from Dahua. The outdoor Redvision cameras were the X-SERIES™, RVX18, rugged PTZ dome cameras, with smart infra-red night-vision to 120m for 24/7 security surveillance. “We have always been impressed by Redvision’s excellent customer service. Dermot Grace, MD of Redvision, commented, “Our bespoke, RAL colour service is very popular and has been used in a wide range of applications, from historical buildings and town centres, through to outdoor sports facilities like Tottenham Hotspur FC training academy. In this application, we have been able to support the branding and image of the newly refurbished college sites. Since both college sites are near the coast, each of the cameras also has a standard marine finish to resist corrosion and increase longevity.” The CCTV systems are monitored from a college operations room at each campus and ‘Smurf cam’ is proving popular with operators. The Redvision PTZ cameras offer superior image quality and highly responsive operation. They are being used to ensure site security and boundary management, as well as assist with Health and Safety. They have already prevented a high-profile arson attack, securing a conviction, and helped to reduce bike theft and vandalism. They are regularly used in site management, preventing illegal car parking and maintaining clear road access for site safety purposes. For more information, visit redvisioncctv.com n

Street art and environmental awareness join forces in cancun’s streets thanks to fermax Between the 4th and the 13th of November, three of the best international Street Artists came together in the Mexican Caribbean to create three spectacular murals destined to enhance different neighbourhoods of the city, bolster local communities and create awareness of how important it is to take care of the oceans. The initiative, promoted by conservation organisation Pangea Seed, had the collaboration of FERMAX which, in this way, gives continuity to its work supporting Street Art. Since the beginning of November, three walls of the city of Cancun boast impressive outdoor works of art created by three renowned street artists: Frenchman Remed — born in Paris in 1978, who lives and works in Madrid—, Spok from Madrid — who takes his name from the popular TV series Star Trek— and Smithe One from Mexico —an artist who successfully combines Street Art, illustration and music. The three enormous works have come into being thanks to an initiative by the Pangea Seed foundation, an international organisation dedicated to preserving sea life that has worked for two years on the Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans project. With this project, they are taking the sea to the cities, thus creating environmental awareness through its huge murals. In 2016, this project has taken place in San Diego (United States), Toronto (Canada) and Napier (New Zealand) before heading to Cancun (Mexico) from 4th to 13th of November leaving, in every case, a beautiful trail of walls filled with art. This foundation works utilising the power of art to create awareness, stimulate dialogue and inspire a global

change in awareness, essential in order to help the oceans, the most important ecosystem on our planet. By supporting this initiative, Fermax continues to be involved in the development of Street Art, a line of work that started when, some years ago, it invited young artists to transform its central facilities in Valencia into a large mural of 1 600 m2. From then on, its corporate building has been an international reference point for Street Art lovers and the company has integrated the support for this kind of street art into its strategy, recognising its great transformational power. Throughout 2016, Fermax has been present at the best Street Art festivals held in those countries where the company is firmly established. The first of these was Paint Your London, an event that brought to life 20 different murals in a single spring weekend in the British capital. In May, it was the turn of Paris, where the company was supporting Street Art Life!, an exhibition in the centre of the French capital with iconic works from international street artists. More recently, in September, Fermax was at the Art Thema gallery in Brussels promoting the ambitious display entitled Link (on until December 2016), in which seventeen French artists, among the most intense on the European art scene, responded to the call of the sculptor-curator Jak Espi to prove that street art, which started as a transgressive, and even subversive, expressive model, has been finally accepted as an artistic model with a huge capacity for social transformation. Ahead of the pack Circuit Paul Ricard stays ahead with total AV solution

Legendary venue Circuit Paul Ricard has been delivering thrilling motorsport experiences to racing fans since 1970. Sony has played a key role in a radical update of the venue’s entire AV Solution infrastructure, providing all video security cameras, laser projectors and BRAVIA Professional Displays to enhance race-day enjoyment, safety and security.

Background An iconic venue in French motorsport history since 1970, the Circuit Paul Ricard is located at Le Castellet, near Marseille. In order to remain at the forefront of the technological evolution – and to modernise its innovative facilities that have made it one of the safest motor racing circuits in the world – the circuit’s owners needed to update their ageing video monitoring systems. Bulky, inefficient CRT screens over a decade old were becoming increasingly unreliable. Video surveillance also needed an update from the venue’s existing network of analogue CCTV cameras.

Challenges Outdoor motorsport presents a tough environment, with cars speeding through scorching ontrack temperatures that can rise as high as 50° as well as rainy, snowy & windy conditions. Racing at night presents an extra challenge: it’s hard to get detailed pictures in near-darkness with added glare from the cars’ headlights. With a total length of 5.8km, the versatile track can be configured in over 160 different race set-ups that must be monitored in every possible situation. Indoors, analogue video monitoring screens consume a lot of power and generate significant heat, especially when they’re used 24 hours a day for some events. By upgrading its facilities, the circuit also looked to compete with other world-class race tracks around the world – maximising its reputation as premier destination for entertainment and excitement for motorsport fans of all ages.

Sony solution Circuit Paul Ricard has updated its entire video infrastructure with the help of Sony, plus networked communications specialist SOGETREL and software vendor SeeTec.

Centrepiece in the main Control Room is a large video wall, consisting of nine Sony 60” BRAVIA Full HD Professional Displays. The wall is supplemented by further Sony monitors in portrait mode displaying images from cameras around the circuit, plus a dedicated screen displaying race timing information. In addition, a VPLFHZ55 3LCD laser light source projector displays crisp images of the race leader, while a second VPLFHZ55 assists safety and efficient race management by providing an overall situational view of the circuit captured by on-track cameras. Race fans can enjoy the day’s events in comfort, watching realtime race footage plus videos and other information on over 100 interconnected BRAVIA Professional Displays around the venue. Twelve VIP boxes are equipped with 48’’ BRAVIA displays. They’re supplemented by a further 75 32’’ Full HD displays in the main stands and eighteen 40’’ Full HD displays in the Press room. Sony solutions also feature in the main reception area, with three 65” BRAVIA 4K Professional Displays offering stunning 4K image quality of the Circuit Paul Ricard, together with touch-enabled BRAVIA professional g

“What we really appreciated – above the quality and compatibility of Sony’s products – is the responsiveness of the team, who’ve always been on hand to answer our questions.” – Thierry Dostes, IT Systems Manager, Circuit Paul Ricard display solutions to guide visitors around the installations. Kids and adults can even play automotive games on Sony PlayStation 4 to enhance the true fan experience. The nearby ´Grand Prix Burger´ restaurant is also kitted out with eight Sony displays in 48” and 65” sizes that show menu prices and sporting action. Five SNC-EM632R outdoor IR ruggedised 1080p/30fps cameras keep a watchful eye around the venue. Out on the circuit itself, 40 SNC-WR632 Full HD PTZ network cameras capture every splitsecond move of the speeding race vehicles at a crisp, detail-packed 60fps (frames per second). HD streams are transmitted over IP to feed the live BRAVIA video wall in the Control Room. A separate analogue video output is distributed simultaneously to BRAVIA displays around the venue, which allow a “double safety” of recording.

Results In the Control Room, streams from the track-side PTZ cameras provide a crisp, detail-packed High Definition view with virtually no latency. It’s easy to identify each car clearly, even

in dark weather conditions or when races sometimes happen at night. Offering up to 20,000 hours operation without replacement, the laser light source in the VPL-FHZ55 dramatically cuts maintenance overheads for busy technical support staff. What’s more, the laser projector’s nearinstant start-up means that no time’s wasted waiting for lamps to warm up at the start of a session. You can see details of the partnership in this 4K video case study, filmed with 4K drone cameras incorporated during a Blancpain GT Series live race event.

Why sony? As Circuit Paul Ricard’s long-term technology partner, Sony was selected to provide a complete, integrated network AV solution in conjunction with system integrator SOGETREL and video management software specialist SeeTec. The circuit’s owners wanted to future-proof its appeal as a world-class venue, with the very best solution incorporating the latest AV innovations including laser and 4K display technologies. Sony was able to provide this,

offering a total solution spanning cameras, screens and projectors. In addition, the management team valued Sony’s responsiveness as a partner in delivering products on time and also answering technical questions. Sony cameras are ideal for capturing fast-paced racing action in a variety of lighting and weather conditions, and in a wide range of different track configurations. The PTZ cameras’ powerful optical zoom offers exceptional close-up detail, making it easier to spot whether distant trails on the track are hazardous oil or just water. It’s also been used to help locate the cars tiny transponders that sometimes get lost on the circuit. And thanks to the cameras’ on-board image stabiliser, pictures are crisp and vibrationfree, even in windy conditions. Choosing energy-efficient BRAVIA Professional Displays has dramatically reduced electrical power consumption. The customer also praised the displays’ ease of installation, excellent picture quality and the wide range of different screen sizes offered by BRAVIA.

Multifocal sensor system Panomera® in Sunderland’s Stadium of Light

“The SeMSy® management system coupled with Dallmeier recorders gave us a very flexible solution. It allowed the existing analogue cameras and a few new IP-HD cameras in strategic positions to come together easily and provided a platform allowing us to add new technology as and when required.”

T

he “Stadium of Light” in Sunderland, England, has completely modernised its video system using Dallmeier technology. The Panomera® multifocal sensor technology has also been installed and provides security particularly in the area for visiting fans. The “Stadium of Light” is the home stadium of Sunderland AFC and has a capacity of about 49,000 spectators. The stadium was built in 1997 on land previously occupied by the largest coal mine in Great Britain, the Monkwearmouth colliery. Even today, an enormous Davy lamp stands in front of the stadium, and the name itself, “Stadium of Light”, is a reference to the mineworkers’ safety lamps.

Latest video security technology Dallmeier was responsible for an upgrade of the existing video surveillance system at the Stadium of Light which was originally installed in 1997. The modernisation of the system originated in the desire of high definition technology for inside bowl coverage to improve image quality, especially in the away fans section. It became apparent quite quickly that modernisation of the control room equipment was paramount in achieving this. To do this Dallmeier, in consultation with the club and their installer ABCA, explored and designed a video management system that uses a virtual matrix, a network based technology known as SeMSy® (Security Management System). SeMSy® proved to be more flexible and expandable than the current analogue switching matrix – and more importantly, it could manage video from high

definition and megapixel cameras. SeMSy® enables multiple workstations to be positioned anywhere on the video management network and is not limited by physical ports for expansion. The virtual matrix enables the creation of flexible monitor walls for displaying cameras in a variety of formats and allows users ultimate control over how they configure their screens and access privileges for remote and ancillary users. SeMSy® along with Dallmeier encoders and video appliances, allowed the existing 96 analogue cameras installed at the stadium to be revitalised, whilst also giving the control room a modern up-to-date platform. This made it simple when further budget or risk requirement presented itself to both replace existing analogue cameras and introduce new IP-HD technology. Peter Weymes, Facilities Manager at Sunderland AFC, commented: “The SeMSy® management system coupled with Dallmeier recorders gave us a very flexible solution. It allowed the existing analogue cameras and a few new IP-HD cameras in strategic positions to come together easily and provided a platform allowing us to add new technology as and when required.”

Multifocal sensor technology for the away fans section At the same time consideration was given to an increasing problem at the away fans section in relation to pyrotechnic flares and smoke bombs, plus other anti-social behavioural issues. For this reason a trial of Dallmeier’s unique Panomera® multifocal sensor technology was implemented specifically for the away fans section of the stadium. Peter Weymes explains: “After trying and comparing a number of manufacturers’ video surveillance

technologies, Panomera® multifocal sensor technology proved there was no other technology on the market that could compare to its image quality or ease of use. Panomera® with multiple sensors giving a wide area of view while just requiring a single point of installation is unique, and offers a very cost effective installation.” The new Panomera® technology proved its worth within a few weeks of its installation, as Sunderland AFC played host to Leeds United in the FA Cup. A smoke grenade was set off in the visitor’s section of the north stand and using the new Panomera® CCTV system, police and club security staff were quickly able to identify the individual and an arrest was made. The individual pleaded guilty and was given a three-year football banning order. Paul Weir, Security Manager at Sunderland AFC, comments: “The Dallmeier Panomera® gives us the bonus of being able to rewind incidents to their origin whilst zooming in to identify offenders, without having to stop the viewing g and recording in live time. This enables quick and effective results.”

Preventive effects “I have been very impressed with the recent CCTV upgrade process from installation, to training and to actual operational use”, Paul Weir explains. “Longer term, supporters will become aware of the capabilities and power of the Panomera®. Those who, for example, may have previously thrown missiles or set off pyrotechnics will be dissuaded from doing so because of the capability of this system. This ultimately proves that the multifocal sensor technology plays a major role in relation to improving spectator safety management at the Stadium of Light.” g

What 2017 means for cybersecurity Peter Bauer, CEO and co-founder at Mimecast

28 I November 2016 I IN Security

The Rise of Cyber Gangs The past year has been rampant with attacks, and it’s only going to get worse. Not just in the number of attacks, but the sophistication. Attackers have been getting smarter, their data gathering techniques more sophisticated, and they’re becoming more organised. In 2017, we’ll likely see growing groups of attackers, as well as a network of shared information they’ve stolen. These groups will also likely clash, and we’ll see attackers going after each other as well as these virtual gangs grow, gain resources, and fight over territories in the digital landscape. As we all know everyone needs to protect against these threats, by taking a layered approach and ensure they have a proper cyber resilience strategy in place to combat these threats. But that can sometimes be out of reach for many organisations as they are always strapped for resources, budget and then management of said layers. Thus the massive shift of organisations moving to a cloud security strategy where you can get advanced security capabilities that would be out of reach to try and build on premise.

Ransomware Continues to Evolve Yet don’t take your eye off other threats – Ransomware will explode to become one of the biggest threats, fuelled by smaller ‘opportunist’ attackers using offthe-shelf kits to deploy malware. This is an easy and cheap attack method that produces fruitful results. Few organisations have effective defences against this type of malware and now with bitcoins enabling the perpetrators to increase distance from their victims further, it has never been so easy to get away with it. In the coming year, we should also expect more crypto-lockersand evolving forms of ransomware that deny access to desktops, network drives and cloud services. And just as you focus your attention on ransomware issues you can’t be caught off guard by adversaries impersonating the CEO to transfer thousands of dollars to an offshore account or by basic phishing attacks that will cause employees to launch attacks on your organisation.

Focus on Data Mining One theme that is still overlooked is that it’s not just about wire transfers. Attackers aren’t just focused on money, they’re focusing on data mining and will use the data they gather in more advanced attacks to gather important data to be either sold on the Dark Web, or used in future attacks. (Remember the W-2 fraud uptick earlier this year? We’re heading into tax season, and can expect to see this again.) While Wire Transfer fraud is, and will be an issue in the future, organisations need to also think about where else they’re susceptible and ensure they have the appropriate protective measures in place. Backups are essential, but the evolution of ransomware is staggering and organisations need to ensure their gateway, firewall, endpoint and other security solutions are consistently up-to-date. g

Cyber Espionage To Cause More Political DisruptionNation states and their sponsored operatives will use cyber espionage more and more to cause political shifts, disruption, and to gain economic advantage. This will involve, but will not be limited to, email hacking and disclosure of other forms of intercepted private communications, disruption of and interference with critical national infrastructures (Stuxnet 2).

Reigning-in Data Residency and Governance The impending GDPR will focus European organisations on improving their security and privacy programs significantly in 2017. And, at the same time increased state-sponsored attacks will lead to more stringent rules around data residency and governance, as well as state firewalls being considered to mitigate threats and

30 I November 2016 I IN Security

allow regional business activity to continue. Advancements in managing internet traffic from different geographies may also become a focus as global trade landscape changes.

Impersonation Attacks in the Spotlight 2016 has been the year of ransomware and it’s no secret that social engineering attacks, like phishing, spear-phishing and domain spoofing have grown from being a nuisance to a huge problem. However, one of the lesser publicised problems is impersonation attacks. Whaling attacks can cost organisations millions in financial losses. In fact, according tothe U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, whaling attacks led to more than $2.3 billion in losses over the last three years. We expect to see whaling attacks as the next “it” attack flooding the media.

Macro Malware Still in the Game Once thought of as a thing of the past, macro malware has reared its ugly head into the ring of attack methods cybercriminals are using. While most organisations choose to block executable attachments at the gateway by default, they must still allow files, such Microsoft Office documents, to pass freely if employees are to be productive. Attackers exploit this by weaponising files in these common formats. According to our own research, we found that 50% of firms have seen email attacks that use macros in attachments increase over the last year. Why? Well it’s such a simple tactic with little proactive AV detection, and that’s why we’ll continue to see waves of Macro malware into next year and beyond.

Are Staff Stealing From The Customers?

International Professional Security Association (IPSA)

Retail Security

T

here is a lot of guidance for retail security, which normally focusses on two distinct types of crime, customers stealing from the premises, i.e. shoplifting, or staff thefts of items out of the back door. Either way the retailer is without an item that was intended for sale. You can also add to this methods such as undercharging for friends at till points, or purposely damaging items so that they can be sold at a reduced price, in these cases there is a transaction however either with significantly reduced profit or more likely with the item sold below initial cost price. As with any of these methods, the business loses out directly, significant effort is put into place to reduce these losses. Technology has certainly helped with the most common method being the use of bar codes, enabling stock takes to not just identify shrinkage of stock, but also the specific items. A recent attempted fraud however got my security mind thinking about the opportunities for your staff to steal from your customers. As in these cases all stock is paid for, it is initially invisible to the retailer, however in the long term it could cause severe reputational damage.

We start with the actual attempted fraud, a real occurrence, and a tale of caution. As this took place in America, some of the practices are less common in the UK, however still feasible. Three of us had gone to a restaurant for a meal, and at the end of the evening I asked the waitress for the check (in the UK, it is normally referred to as the bill, however the incident actually shows that the American term is more accurate). We received the usual itemised listing which included the three main courses, other items and drinks, which matched what we had ordered. Out came my credit card, and as is American practice still, the waitress took my card and the check to the till, processed the sale and returned with my card with the transaction slip neatly folded around. I am sure that most people, including myself normally, would have put the card and transaction slip in their wallet and left, however for whatever reason on this occasion I unfolded the slip and looked at it. I noticed immediately that the total shown was higher than earlier. As the transaction slip was also the receipt, it included the itemised listing of purchases and on

inspection and additional expensive main course had been added. The manager was called, who managed to retrieve the original check which was identifiable by the hand written gratuity section and understood that the additional item had appeared at a point when it could not have been a simple error, and he noticed that the transaction had not actually been ‘finalised’ meaning that the waitress had left the sale as an open tab, giving herself the ability to go back to the transaction later and alter it further. The manager as well as rectifying my transaction, agreed that it needed further investigation, and I was later informed that they had uncovered a number of other similar occurrences and that the matter was being dealt with. In this case, the assumption is that the intention was to later alter the transaction to convert the additionally charged amount to a generous tip, which the waitress would have then received. As the number of items sold would have matched the number of items leaving the kitchen, the “stock” would match and the establishment would be unaware of anything untoward having happened. The customer receiving their credit g

card bill weeks later might think that the amount was higher than remembered, but is unlikely to return and challenge the amount, especially considering this particular incident happened in a tourist destination. Some readers may be thinking that this couldn’t happen in the UK, as current best practice in restaurants either involves the card transaction machine being brought to the table, or the customer having to go in person to the till, due to the requirement of entering a PIN to authorise the transaction. Commonly the employee will even state “check the amount, and then enter your PIN”. However it is mainly the principle in the detailed incident, where an employee would attempt to defraud a customer, without it being visible to the employer that concerned me. Retailers need to consider how an employee with criminal intent could take advantage of customers. Before entering the security industry, I worked in retail management, and we were aware of the typical scenario of a genuine customer paying for an item with cash, the transaction not actually being processed through the till, and the cash being pocketed by the cashier. It was assumed that by good stock management that the

34 I November 2016 I IN Security

discrepancies would be identified and that you would also be able to establish whether it was shoplifting by customers or theft by staff. I am now starting to question about the opportunity for an employee to “mistakenly” charge a customer twice for an item, to then give them opportunity to profit from the transaction later, by either refunding the additional item to cash, pocket cash from a similar transaction or take the item home with them. Whichever method was used, a stocktake would not show an item as missing or unaccounted for. It is easy to write off duplicate charges as mistakes, and indeed there will be plenty of times when it is a genuine mistake, which does make it more difficult to identify the dishonest occasions. Prevention is always the preferred option, so where possible retailers need to take the opportunity away. Using the requirement for management approval for refunds will ensure that the person at the till cannot refund items as cash for themselves. Requiring refunds to be conducted at a central point, e.g. a customer service desk, is often the favoured option of supermarkets in particular, which also means that the cashier is not necessarily aware as to

whether a customer has noticed an additional transaction done on purpose, however is there any analysis done as to whether there are certain employees who create a disproportionate amount of errors (even if there is no dishonest behaviour behind it, there is certainly a training issue). Retailers are already aware that there is always the possibility that an employee will steal from them. Sometimes the employee will even try and justify it by criticising wage rates, etc. however if an employee is dishonest, there is a risk that they would be willing to seek financial gain from any opportunity. The real risk to the employer is if a customer is targeted and becomes aware of the theft, that they are likely to hold the business culpable for the actions of their staff. The reputational damage could far outweigh the amount of the loss. Therefore it is worth retailers attempting to identify and eliminate where possible opportunities for employee theft, try and think of even the most devious methods that an employee could use. It has been said numerous times that you need to think like a thief, to catch a thief, so take a look and see what opportunities there are in your business, even if you are not the direct victim.

Physical security essential throughout winter months

36 I November 2016 I IN Security

N

ow that British Summer Time (BST) has officially come to an end, we will start to see extended hours of darkness, which can often leave properties vulnerable to opportunistic criminals. Here, James Kelly, Chief Executive of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA), discusses the importance of physical security measures in deterring crime. Recent statistics, based on interviews between July 2015 and July 2016 , from the Crime Survey for England and Wales revealed that burglary offences have decreased by 2% with 398,406 recorded offences. Interestingly, however, the fear of being burgled is still a very real issue. Research conducted by Churchill Home Insurance found that 6.9 million people were concerned about being burgled,

emphasising the fact that having effective security measures in place should take priority for home and business owners. Physical security measures can be seen as the foundation of any home, business or organisation. When it comes to fully securing a property, it is beneficial to take a holistic approach in order to fully consider the risks that the property faces and determine the best ways to mitigate them. Physical security is often seen as the backbone of security, with even the simplest of measures making a big difference in defending against unwanted intruders. For example, doors should be of a high quality, complying with British Standard PAS 24-1 ‘Doors of Enhanced Security’. This standard sets the minimum requirements that both doors and windows should meet

in order to provide an appropriate level of security. This ensures that these measures are fit for purpose and have been assessed against an array of key performance markers, including, but not limited to, weather tightness, strength and operation. Doors should also be solid in their construction and should not have the ability to be easily smashed or ripped away from any locks, hinges or hinge bolts. The locks themselves should be of a high-standard, with five-lever mortise locks being fitted to doors and high quality locks fitted to all windows of premises. Every detail can make a big difference in preventing crime, glass, for example, should be carefully considered when choosing glass doors or windows. Glass can often act as a weak point in terms of breakability and visibility, allowing potential intruders to look into g

a property and make plans for intrusion. Where glass is used, preventative physical measures such as frosting or tinting, can add a more robust layer of both security and privacy. In the cases of commercial properties, steel shutters and perimeter fencing can also be a successful deterrent. Another type of property that can find themselves particularly more vulnerable during the winter months is that of vacant properties. Vacant properties, whether they are commercial or residential, find themselves at a heightened risk for a variety of factors such as fire, deterioration, squatting, fly tipping and criminal activity. Discussing the impact that winter weather can have on vacant properties, Gideon Reichental, Chairman of the BSIA’s Vacant Property Protection Section, explained that “squatters and travellers are still prevalent.” While squatting in residential properties is illegal, “squatting in commercial property is not illegal, and the cold wet weather will act as incentive for those seeking somewhere to live.” From a maintenance point of view, Gideon commented that the theft of metal such as copper and lead can also “have knock-on consequences such as water ingress through

damaged roofing, especially during the winter months, and flooding if water systems have not been shut off and drained down.” “Vacant sites still act as a magnet for those with little to occupy themselves, and graffiti usually marks the beginning of a campaign of activity that can result in broken windows, general vandalism and fires being lit” he continued. “The darker evenings act as cover for those that will use the vacant property as a place to hang-out which, apart from being a risk to the property, also represents a public liability risk to the owners in the event that someone should injure themselves on site. From this perspective, it is essential the perimeter is secure, that there is plenty of warning signage and activity can be easily monitored.” That being said, physical security measures can go a long way in helping to secure vacant properties. Alongside physical and electronic measures, such as perimeter fencing, steel shutters and doors, CCTV and alarm systems, a physical presence in the form of a security guard or a property guardian can also be extremely beneficial. On the subject of property guardianship, Gideon explained

that “BSIA members also lead the market in experience and best practice of ‘protection through occupation’ using guardians.” Property guardianship is a method of vacant property protection that has become more popular in recent years. A guardian is a person who temporarily occupies an empty property in order to prevent against squatting and theft, while also assisting with general maintenance of the building. While they do pay a licence fee, they do not have any tenancy rights so can conveniently vacate the property whenever the owner may need it to be returned for development, refurbishment or sale. Regardless of what kind of physical security measure is chosen, as always, it is most effective to source a product or solution from a reputable provider. It is important to be aware of any British or European standards that the product should meet with, as low quality products can have detrimental effects and result in financial losses in the future. Members of the BSIA are all inspected to these quality standards and offer a reliable, professional service. To find out more visit www.bsia.co.uk/home.aspx#
