Ikat, the ornamental marble tile floor collection is inspired from its namesake textile weaving art that uses dyed yarn to create fascinating patterns. The MEC design team wanted to somehow bring that aesthetic style to the mosaic tile medium.
It is incredible how little variations and weaving give the ikat creations a warm handcrafted feeling, making every piece of fabric truly one-of-a-kind. The goal was to capture the true essence of hand woven fabric, and we found a perfect technique. The Ikat Marble designs feature long precision cut marble tile strips, further hand chopped and manually arranged into woven ikat patterns.
Each section is unique and there is no repetition throughout the marble rugs; which gives something as tough as marble a soft flowy fabric effect.
