ON HOLIDAY – SIMONE ANDERSON ADVENTURE PACKED – ROTORUANZ WEEKEND Simone Anderson, Fitness & Lifestyle blogger visited Rotorua for a romantic getaway, and boy did they have some fun!

After this day we were ready for some relaxation, with Polynesian Spa on the Lake’s edge being the perfect place to sit back, unwind and take in the stunning scenery of Lake Rotorua. Here we treated ourselves to a romantic couples Signature Mud Wrap which was just perfect! The soothing properties of the thermal mud made this an experience to remember, highly recommended! Terrace Kitchen was the restaurant of choice with stylish interior and a range of contemporary meals and unique cocktails. Trent’s twenty second birthday was fast approaching and I was stuck on present ideas, the normal shoe and undie trick wasn’t going to cut it this year. This is when a two day get away came to mind. I wanted somewhere within driving distance, that had adventure alongside indulgence and romance, but not too far away. Rotorua was it, only a 3hr’s drive had us arriving early evening in time for activities. We arrived about 8pm and headed straight to the Redwoods Treewalk which gave us the perfect opportunity to stretch our legs. Arriving in the twilight hour allowed us to capture both the stunning evening light, alongside the David Trubridge lights. Enjoying 23 swing bridges, suspended 12m above the ground left us feeling relaxed and at peace, and was a great way to ease into our trip. After a comfortable first night on the shores of Lake Rotorua at Sudima Lake Rotorua Hotel we were ready for our first day of adventure, with the location of choice being Adventure Playground. I absolutely love horse riding so this was high on the agenda and our two hour tour over rolling farmland overlooking Lake Rotorua was simply beautiful. Nestled in beautiful native bush we gave claybird shooting a go, and of course Trent got 5/5 (Navy training helps with that…). OGO was next on the list, where you are basically a human hamster inside a giant ball cartwheeling down the hill, and it was outstanding! And of course I bet Trent down the hill. Next stop saw us arriving at Velocity Valley where we did the Swoop, Agrojet, and Freefall Extreme (flying in a giant wind column which opened up our pores in time for the next activity).

Our final day in Rotorua brought with it even more adventure, starting out nice at early at Skyline Rotorua. Trent and I battled it out on the three purpose built luge tracks. I won the first luge race, that’s the only one that counts right? Before we left Rotorua we stopped off at Off Road NZ and Trent could not wipe the smile of his face! Starting with a 4X4 Bush Safari which saw water up to the windscreen, followed by the 4x4 Monster Truck through dense bush, finally off with race line carts – this ticking all the boxes for four tyre enthusiasts! Hobbiton was the final stop on the way home, and it was a surreal feeling totally immersed in a movie set which has been kept to such high standards,a total must do to break up the trip to and or from Rotorua. “Two days felt like two weeks worth of adventure behind us as we left with the most unreal feeling. It was by far some of the best times we had ever experienced, and only a short drive from Auckland. Our one thought, why hadn’t we done this sooner?!”

This is a spectacular year for Mars. On July 31, the planet will come closer to Earth than at any other time since its historically close approach of August 2003. Not until September 2035 will it come so close again. Shining like a star with a yellow-orange hue, Mars can vary considerably in brightness. It will appear brightest between July 21 to August 3. In the night sky, Jupiter will look brilliant with a silver-white lustre. It will be visible in the mornings from January 1 to May 7 and evenings from May 8 to November 7. For much of 2018, Jupiter will shine like a dazzling, non-twinkling, silvery star. BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL The 60-minute stargazing tour departs nightly after dark, throughout the year. Session times depend on sunset times so visit skyline.co.nz/rotorua to book. Accessed via a scenic Skyline Gondola ride, Stratosfare Restaurant and Bar is open daily for lunch from 11.30am and dinner from 5.30pm.

ROTORUA’S OWN AWARD-WINNING BREW BREW is owned and operated by Croucher Brewing, Rotorua’s Award Winning Brewery. The natural thermal wonders of Rotorua have made it renowned as the aromatic capital of New Zealand (if not the world), hence our desire to create beautiful rich flavoured aromatic beers. In April 2011 Paul Croucher and Nigel Gregory from Croucher Brewing decided it was time for Rotorua to have its very own craft beer pub. After six weeks of graft we opened BREW, home to the full range of Croucher Brewing beers on tap, along with an ever changing selection of other great NZ craft beers, wines & ciders. Grab a ‘tasting rack’ of any four tap beers

if you are having trouble deciding where to start. Need something to eat with your beer? BREW’s Gastropub style menu is both delicious and affordable. Winner of Outstanding Bar at the 2017 Rotorua Hospitality Awards. Regular events include: Tuesday Open Mic Night, BREW Beer Club (first Wednesday of the month), hoppy hour each Friday from 5pm to 7pm, and live music with the Sunday Session. There is simply no good excuse for not visiting BREW | Craft Beer Pub in Rotorua (or our sister-pub on The Strand in Tauranga).

She’s an expert at valuing all of the city’s residential, lifestyle and lakes properties, permanent living or holiday homes. Anyone buying into today’s increasingly vibrant Rotorua scene needs a local expert offering local advice. Adrienne should top that list. She’s Property InDepth’s Bay of Plenty manager and a fully registered property valuer. She isn’t a real estate agent. She doesn’t sell properties. Instead, she provides buyers and sellers independent property valuations on the full range of residential, investment, lifestyle and lake properties spread throughout the Rotorua District, the Bay of Plenty and Taupo.
