RELATED APPLICATIONS Legislative chambers - City council chambers - Courtrooms - Situation rooms
The Expert Recommends - TAIDEN HCS-8348 Why are council chambers a great example of how the Multimedia Terminals can be used? Council members can research and access valuable documents, such as agenda topics, with the same device they will use to speak and to vote. Each member has its own personal 10” monitor for watching presentations and all information is right at their fingertip.
Wesley Sutliff Director of Product Management recommends the TAIDEN Multimedia Terminal for council chambers.
9
Why is an “all-in-one” system superior to an integrated system of components? From a technical position, the importance concerns the number of possible failure points. An “all-in-one” solution provides the same number of features for the council members, but only represents one possible failure point. An all-in-one system like the Multimedia Terminal represents simplicity; it is more user-friendly with only one device to operate, and easy to maintain. Corporate Conference systems for corporate environments must have all the functionalities that will support the smooth running of meetings while adapting to the overall design and use of the space: from elegant permanently furnished boardrooms to multipurpose meeting rooms used by different groups and frequently rearranged. Time is of the essence in meetings and intelligible audio is critical to facilitate quick and accurate communication, particularly for teleconferencing applications. Media Vision provides wired tabletop and flush-mount conference microphone units or wireless units for rooms requiring more flexible setups. All solutions can integrate with third party video conferencing systems and room combining is always an option.
RELATED APPLICATIONS Executive meeting rooms - Flexible meeting spaces - VTC boardrooms - Training centers
The Expert Recommends - TAIDEN HCS-5302 How to improve the quality of audio in teleconferences? The closer you get the microphone to the person speaking, the better the quality of the audio. Thus, gooseneck mics sound better than ceiling or boundary mics. With a conference microphone, you also benefit from the onboard loudspeaker that allows you to reduce the output of the overhead PA, and you can limit the number of mics that are on at one time. This all means less noise in the system for attendees on the far end.
Patrick Herlihy Director of Sales - North America recommends the wireless system for teleconferencing and videoconferencing.
Can I hold teleconferences in divisible rooms using wireless microphones? Yes, the TAIDEN wireless solution uses digital infrared transmission technology so you don’t need to worry about RF interferences. You can use the same system in adjacent or combinable spaces. Microphones can easily be shared between different rooms without need to change settings.

Education Today’s students are accustomed to a highly interactive world. In order to consistently engage them in the learning process, all classrooms must be equipped with technology that encourages collaboration. Conference systems create opportunities for a more interactive learning environment which studies show helps improve retention, leading to higher test scores and grades. Conference microphones support increased intelligibility for the students; with localized speakers, the instructor’s voice sounds nearer and clearer. The sound quality is also improved on the far site in distance learning applications. As an option, microphones are available with polling buttons that will allow the instructor to measure retention percentage levels with a few quick questions.
RELATED APPLICATIONS Lecture halls - Distance learning centers - Seminars - Board of directors chambers
The Expert Recommends - TAIDEN HCS-48U7DMIC Why should universities invest in student microphones? Giving students access to a microphone is sending them the message that their voice counts. This encourages participation to create a real student-instructor interaction and assist in providing a quality learning experience for all. Conference systems are also very valuable for distance learning applications; offering perfect audio capture, and the possibility to control cameras to follow active microphones, they help automate the teleconference process required to tie classrooms together.
Olivier Blain Product Manager - Europe recommends this flush-mount microphone for university lecture halls.
11
Why a flush microphone? They are easier to keep clean and maintain for universities. Students cannot move flush units around their table or take them outside of the room. The gooseneck can be removed when units are not in use. As an option, we also have microphone models with fixed goosenecks, and units with cover plates to hide all electronics. RELATED APPLICATIONS Multilingual conference rooms - Hemicycles - International congresses - Press rooms
The Expert Recommends - TAIDEN HCS-5100R What unique features of the TAIDEN receivers make them valuable for multilingual conferences? The large LCD display on our language receivers is very appreciated by end-users. The complete language name is displayed – in addition to the channel number – allowing users to quickly identify and select their preferred language. In addition, these digital infrared receivers have a 270° super wide reception angle offering a great signal pickup.
Jack De Keyser Director of Sales - Europe recommends TAIDEN Infrared Receivers for international congresses.
How is the technology adapting to the growing support for linguistic diversity? In 2015, TAIDEN has released a 40-channel digital infrared receiver; previous solutions on the market were limited to 32 channels or less. This is a forward-looking solution offering relief to key users such as institutions of the European Union.

Multimedia Conferencing System
FAQ
How does the cabling topology differ between the Multimedia and the Video Monitor Solutions? The TAIDEN Multimedia Terminals differ from other TAIDEN wired solutions in that power is on a separate cable. Audio, video and data are transmitted across Cat6 cable and daisy chain together like a network. The power cable is tapped off from a few dedicated runs and isolated against any power failure from an individual terminal. The Video Monitor Delegates, on the other hand, connect the same way as other TAIDEN systems: using 6pin DIN connections to daisy chain units together.
How do I load documents on the terminals and what are the acceptable formats? The TAIDEN Multimedia Conferencing System supports many file types, including: .xls, .xlsx, .txt, .doc, .docx, .pdf, .ppt, .pptx, .mp4, .jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .gif. These documents can be loaded in two different ways, locally at the terminal or centrally at the file server. From the terminal, files can be loaded via USB drive and uploaded to the file server. Or files can be loaded directly to the file server via a PC with access to the proper drive.
What video resolutions can the terminals display? Can the native resolution be HD? The native resolution of the TAIDEN Multimedia Terminal is 1280 x 800, an HD format. However, you can feed the terminals many resolutions and the device will scale appropriately. The TAIDEN HCS-8338 and 8348 terminals will allow: 1280x720p at 30, 50 and 60Hz - 1920x1080p at 30, 50 and 60Hz - 1920x1080i at 30, 50 and 60Hz

Video Teleconferencing
This portable conference system is ideal for rooms that are frequently reconfigured. It is easy to setup and remove after use for storage. Multiple adjacent rooms may also be combined to accommodate larger groups. Because the system uses infrared, no frequency management is ever required.
The TAIDEN system uses infrared as a wireless medium (not RF). Infrared light is referred to as being inherently secure because the signal does not pass through walls or physical obstructions; thereby eliminating the possibility of eavesdropping.
Audio Matters in VTC environments more than anywhere else. The TAIDEN wireless conference system ensures a superb quality of both near end and far end audio. Automatic video tracking is an option. The main unit can easily connect to the codec of third-party video conferencing systems.

Wireless Conferencing System
What are the benefits of digital infrared audio transmission over RF?
FAQ
Infrared uses light waves of 870nm making them too small to pass thru opaque surfaces and therefor making the signal inherently secure. The signal will not broadcast beyond the confines of the meeting space. Radio Frequencies, however, can broadcast thru most solid surfaces. Because Infrared is a completely separate portion of the light spectrum, there are no issues of crossover or interference from other wireless devices or systems.
How many infrared transceivers are needed to cover a conference room? You must take into account the room characteristics such as ceiling height, materials (what are the walls made out of, what color are they, etc.) and even the shape of the room. You must also consider where the participants will be sitting and whether seating arrangements will change. Once this information is known, the coverage pattern of the transceivers is taken into account to determine quantities and placement. The Media Vision engineers are available to help you with this question.
How do you connect to third party video conferencing systems? When selecting a VTC codec, ensure that the device has at least one audio input and one audio output. The TAIDEN Main Unit will have the same, an input and an output. Connect the output of the Main Unit to the Input of the codec and the Output of the codec to the Input of the Main Unit. Adjust levels according to the room and you are ready to use the integrated solution.

Wired Conferencing Systems
What are the benefits of the conference unit onboard loudspeaker?
FAQ
Collectively, the onboard loudspeaker provides a low-level even distribution of sound throughout the meeting room, giving the impression that the person speaking is right in front of you. This is often referred to as “voice lifting” and is intended to provide a higher intelligibility of the signal and a better gain before feedback ratio, due to the closeness of the speaker to the person listening. The speaker will mute when the microphone is active to avoid feedback.
Do you provide product customization for project requirements? Yes, we welcome the design process for creating custom units for specific project needs. While we already have a large variety of shapes, sizes and colors to choose from, we understand the need for a customized product and can support you in creating one.
How many microphone units can I have on one system? The TAIDEN 4100 Series can support up to 4096 contribution units, 10,000 channel selectors and up to 378 Interpreter Units, all on one system!
What elements are offered to protect against system or component failure ? Are there redundancy options? TAIDEN wired systems have multiple layers of redundancy that can be added as options. A redundant main unit can be added to protect against system failure, and extra PC can be added as well. Contribution units can be wired in a closed loop. For the advanced Multimedia Conference System (view section 02), even the power supply and network switches can be made redundant.

Is interpretation done through a computer program?
FAQ
No, you will need professional conference interpreters to carry out a multilingual meeting. Automated machine interpreting technology is at an early stage of development and is an unreliable form of communication. In situations demanding accuracy, like policy decisions and business transactions, only a human interpreter is able to understand the nuances of language.
Are TAIDEN receivers compatible with other language distribution systems? Yes, the TAIDEN digital infrared language distribution system is compatible with similar solutions from other manufacturers that comply with IEC 61603-7 standards. You can mix and match digital infrared receivers under one system.
Can the language channels be named? Displayed? How would I change them between meetings? The TAIDEN 5100 Series allows the user to add a language name to the language channel. The name is displayed beneath the channel number of the IR Receiver on the LCD, along with volume. As meetings change and needed languages along with them, the TAIDEN 5100 Series allows you to re-assign the language names thru software, the front panel of the transmitter unit and even thru RS-232 control. 2 LANGUAGES SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION SYSTEM WITH LANGUAGE DISTRIBUTION 1 x HCS-4100MB Digital Conference System Main Unit 4 x HCS-8385/70 Interpreter Units 4 x EP-960BH Interpreter Headsets 4 x HCS-4338NDDS Delegate Units 3 x HCS-4325 Dual Channel Selectors 1 x HCS-5100MA/04N Digital Infrared Transmitter (4 Channels) 1 x HCS-5100T Digital Infrared Radiator 9 x HCS-5100RA/04 Digital Infrared Receivers (4 Channels) 19 x HCS-5100PA Headphones 1 x HCS-4352T Cable Splitter Cables

Microphone Operation Modes
The microphones are designed to operate in a variety of modes to allow for different meeting configurations and levels of control by various parties. Open - a microphone in the speaking list must be deactivated before a new microphone can be activated. Override - a “first in, first out” method of managing the speaking list. Voice - the microphone is activated when the delegate speaks. The activation/deactivation sensitivity is adjustable. Apply - an operator is able to pre-select the delegate sequence and activate/deactivate microphones. Delegates can make a request to speak by pressing the mic on/off button. Speaking and request-to-speak lists can be displayed on screens. This mode requires operator participation. PTT (Push to talk) - a delegate must press and hold the microphone on/off button to activate the microphone. In the wired system, up to 6 microphones can be active at any time (including chairman units), up to 4 microphones for the wireless system.

Conference Management Audio Mixer
The first digital audio mixer for conference systems gives audio engineers and systems operators control over the audio level of conference microphones, interpreter consoles and system inputs/outputs. > 15-channel hardware mixer, with fader attenuation at a range of -30dB to 0dB. > D ynamic processor with 5-band equalizer for the microphone, line in and line out channels, and a 3-band EQ for interpretation channels. > Other audio controls: high pass filter, mute capability and peak indicator.
Communication Protocols
TAIDEN solutions incorporate the latest and most-used media networking protocols to ensure seamless communication with third-party systems and the maximum flexibility for signal routing and processing: > Dante: delivering uncompressed, multi-channel, low-latency digital audio over a standard Ethernet network. Now the preferred choice of AV professionals. > Fiber optic: Duplex SC single-mode optical fiber interface. to combine two widely separated conference rooms and to operate as one unique coherent system.
CongressMatrixTM
With the proprietary CongressMatrixTM technology, TAIDEN offers the first conference system to integrate an nx8 audio matrix processor. 8 discrete audio outputs are provided:
> Other: AES/EBU digital input/output, RS-232, TCP/IP, CobraNet.
> Line 1 output: 15 band graphical EQ; 8 band parametric EQ; dynamic range compressor.
System Redundancy
> Line 2 output: 5 band graphical EQ; dynamic range compressor. >G roup output 1-5: 5 band graphical EQ; dynamic range compressor; time delay.
TAIDEN offers multiply levels of redundancy for hardware and software points to ensure complete reliability at the most important meetings.
>G roup output 6: 5 band graphical EQ; dynamic range compressor; time delay.
> Hardware: primary and back up main unit configuration; with any hard unit failure, the system automatically reverts to the backup unit.
Operators are able to selectively assign units to any number of outputs, and create unique mixes for audio destinations based on conference needs. This is especially useful for combining and separating conference rooms. Connecting to external multi-channel audio devices grants versatile expansion of the system.
In both instances, system switching is seamless, with no human intervention, no loss in audio or data, and unnoticeable to end users.
> Software: a secondary computer can automatically resume the conference control functionalities in case of primary computer failure.
Room Combining
>F or 2 rooms: a direct connection via fiber optic between the main units in each room is sufficient to allow room combining. >F or 2 to 8 rooms: All room main units should centrally connect to the TAIDEN Room Combiner unit (picture on the left). >F or up to 24 rooms: view Campus-wide Room Combining, page 50. In all scenarios, an intelligent central control system should be used to enable room combining and dividing.

Campus-wide Room Combining & Asset Sharing
For large facilities, where room combination is needed for a large number of rooms and individual assets may be borrowed from one room to another, the TAIDEN design works with two key components: the Local Room & Booth Combiner (1 needed per room) and the General Controller for Room and Booth Combiners. Here again, the fiber optic backbone is used to connect devices and allow room combining with the help of a control system. Up to 24 rooms can be connected; up to 14 rooms can be combined as one system or several smaller combinations all operating at the same time. Enabling room combining allows transmittal of floor audio, all language channels, and meeting management settings. It is also possible to combine and merge data and voting capability. Adding asset sharing is particularly useful for facilities hosting multilingual conferences; because of space limitations, having the ability to combine interpretation booths from another room (even if that room is in use) gives superior flexibility to meet the demands of the most complex multilingual meetings.

RELATED APPLICATIONS
Houses of Worship
Public Assembly Areas
Tour Groups
Most houses of worship have acoustical challenges. In addition, older adults – with higher instances of hearing loss – make up a large part of their audience. Assistive listening technology is essential for congregants to hear the service properly and receive the messages of inspiration.
Most government agencies dictate that public venues shall be made accessible to people with physical disabilities, including hearing loss. This includes a requirement to provide assistive listening systems in all assembly areas, including council chambers, courtrooms, classrooms or theatres.
Tour guide systems are used in museums, factories, large corporate campuses and any loud environment where it is essential to keep a group together. A system with portable transmitter will allow freedom of movement and broadcast the guide’s voice to everyone at a comfortable audio level.
