“How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!” were the famous last words of Simon Bolivar – at least according to Looking For Alaska, the 2006 Michael L. Printz Award winning YA novel by John Green (themes: grief, hope, the last words of famous dead people), with which you might have been obsessed around the age of 16 were you a particular type of ‘emo’ kid – as Bath Life was. And we can’t help but think of that again, ten-and-a-bit years later, looking at Minotaur Holding Horn by Bristol-based artist Beth Carter.

He looks a little deflated, this minotaur. Not so much the maiden-munching monster feasting on his annual offering as a little on the sad and defeated side – as if perhaps this is a snapshot of minotaur existence the other 364 days of the year. It’s a hard life, stuck inside the labyrinth…
