Busy lives make it hard for us to cook daily. Luckily, many recipes are easy to make ahead of time and store in the fridge or freezer. One evening a week try batch cooking a couple of recipes, cutting up veggies for your salads and making an easy snack to grab on the go like eggplant and chickpea bites. Having a few of your meals ready for the week ahead will cut down cooking time and help keep your nutrition on track.

When we’re at a loss for what to eat, we tend to grab the first thing we see or cave into cravings. In both cases, we tend to stray from nutritional goals. the importance of self-care

When hearing the words “self-care,” some people may think it means indulging yourself, such as getting a massage or buying yourself a treat. In some ways it can include these types of things, but it is also much more. Whatever your form of self-care, there is real value in taking care of yourself in simple, regular ways. For you, it might be your daily walk through the neighbourhood, a good chat with a friend or a session with a therapist.

Taking care of your physical and mental health can help you

handle difficult experiences, help you feel more confident in yourself and your abilities and improve your ability to regain some control after you’ve been through a tough time.

Of course, many things can affect mental well-being, and they aren’t all within our control. But, having things to look forward to and putting aside time to prioritize yourself are important parts of everyone’s well-being. As many of us learn the hard way, you can’t do your best for anyone else if you’re not showing up for yourself.

If even the small things seem challenging or you’re finding that emotions like sadness, worry, loneliness or anger are long-lasting or interfering with your daily routines, it may be time to reach out for help. This is another important act of self-care itself.

There are many free and credible mental health resources available online, including self-guided therapy, one-on-one counselling with qualified health professionals and moderated peer-to-peer support. You can find more information about these resources at canada.ca/ mental-health. ■

Budgets are like dental floss. Boring, and sometimes a little painful. They’re also easy to do and worth the effort.

Start with your take-home pay and subtract what you spend on basics like housing, food and other obligations. If there’s no money left, you need to cut back on expenses. Any surplus should go into savings or investments.

Credit cards are convenient, and a useful way to build a credit rating. If you pay your full balance each month, you won’t have to pay interest in addition to the amount you’ve borrowed. But the

interest rate on credit card debt is high, so make sure you don’t spend more than you can pay off when the bill is due. If you do come up a bit short, use a lowerinterest line of credit to pay off the balance.

Moving is a very personal thing and people who hire moving companies ask for varying levels of service.

Take packing, for example. Some clients want to pack their own items, while others prefer a turnkey solution where the mover does it all. There are, of course, advantages to each approach, so it is important to choose what’s best for you.

Most who choose to pack themselves do so because it saves money on the move. That is true only if the items make it from Point A to Point B in one piece. Moving companies will not be responsible for items damaged because of poor packing.

The most critical element in packing is taking into consideration how far and long the items will remain in the boxes and containers during transit. Consumers often underestimate just how much jostling their items will endure on the various highways and other roadways on their trip to your new home or business. Accessories such as lamps may seem to be packed well, but may shift inside the carton and break or chip as a result.

flammable items in the general boxes.

Although you can obtain boxes from places like grocery stores, check with your mover, who may sell proper packing materials that will save you work and worry.

Some of the items you will need are tape dispensers, newsprint, markers, pads and bubble wrap – and there are many sizes and strengths of boxes available. There is a 1.5 cubic-foot box that is often referred to as a book or record box. It’s fairly small and is designed to hold small, heavy items like food jars or cans, flatware, CDs, etc. The next size up is a lamp or lampshade box, which is 3 cubic feet in size. The sizes go up from there, to 4.5 and 6 cubic feet for lighter objects such as pillows and stuffed animals.
