Josephine Okeme's PULSATING STORY Cover story by Azuka Ogujiuba
nspector Josephine Okeme's pulsating story remains a collector's item in all parameters. She's cop manning a trafc post, mother of ve who practically travels to duty post from a neighbouring state, but whose demeanour always hides discomfort and one with with an impeccable work ethic. She's the toast of commuters along Sabo police station, Sabo Yaba where she's attached. She has won several awards which includes JCI-Lagos Awa da, Metropolitan-2017 Toppa Award and GTBank Nominate A Champ 2017 award. 29/12/2017. Her passion for and condence in the job read like a bestseller and same explains why we bring her world to you in MediaRoomHub rst edition of the year. Can you give us a glimpse of your background and growing up? I'm from Ukwala, Delta state. I was born in Apapa Lagos and grew up there before moving to Okokomaiko where I spent the larger part of my life. I had my primary education in Ladylac primary school, secondary education in United Christian secondary school both in Apapa then attended a computer institute. I was popularly known as Grace Jones because of my hairstyle and my tomboyish look and character. How long have you been serving as a police ofcer in the trafc control section? I've been controlling trafc since 2011. What was your exact feeling when you were posted to the trafc section? I felt good because that has always been my reason for being in the police force. Amidst enjoying the job, are you scared of possible occupational hazard for PG | 7 | JANUARY 2018
instance, a car hitting you? [Laughs] Of course, I do enjoy the job and I've been hit by a bullion van in September 2017 but that wouldn't be my sole reason for quitting the trafc section if I am to. What led you to join the police force despite the negative impression?
Virtually everyday is a happy one for me.
It has always been a thing of pride to be in the police force. I actually started as a sportswoman. I was enlisted into the police force through sports at National Stadium when MKO Abiola was alive. He introduced the sport which involved The Navy, The Army and The Police. Talents were scouted for to represent each force. Chioma Ajunwa encouraged me to be in the police force. There was a competition which I won and earned a gold and silver medal afterwards I was enlisted into the police force; myself and some competitors. When has been your happiest moment on duty as a policewoman?
Virtually everyday is a happy one for me. Some have argued that you're barely upset when people trespass. How do you manage your emotions when people disobey you on duty? I try to conceal my anger and tolerate everyone. I feel my work won't go as nice as I'd want if I unveil my angry self. So I rather stop and warn trespassers than get angry because it wouldn't be

nice for both parties. What has been the nastiest comment anyone has made about you on duty?

Well... it's mostly in cases where the trafc light acts up and I try to control vehicles manually with my "baton". For instance, when the light shows green instead of red and I try to halt vehicles with my baton, they question my work but I always try to explain. Have you ever felt like quitting your job? No, there's been no such time. How many hours do you stay on duty daily? 6 hours When you're not working, how do you relax? I relax with my family. I have 2 girls and 3 boys. My last are a twin. What excites you about life? What excites me about life is when people do the right thing at the right time. Where do you reside? Ogun state. And you shuttle Ogun state- Yaba daily? Yes! How supportive is your husband given how demanding your work is and the proximity to your residence, do you get home late everyday? He's quite supportive but sometimes gets angry that I neither have my own time nor give him attention but I try to pacify him but he's understanding above all. How did you meet your husband...was it love at rst sight?
"In my next life, I'd want to be a policewoman.
No, we've been childhood friends. We grew up and liked each other. Doing a male-dominated job, do men often complement you? Yes, they always do. Has the rigour of your

job taken a toll on your health? I don't fall sick. I'm a sportswoman and we've undergone extensive training that shield us from sickness though sometimes my head would ache. Have you ever encountered a former schoolmate while on duty? Yes, I've encountered many schoolmates of mine and they're elated about my job performance. Do you guys gist/catch-up on times like that? No, I don't chat when I'm on duty. Probably before/after work but denitely while on duty. No phone calls... nothing! Would you quit the job if offered a mouthwatering deal? Of course not. I will not, I love this job. Do you have an active social life? I actually don't... I don't party or hangout. I don't have time for myself because my job runs the whole 7 days. Once I'm done with work, it's family. When you're not on police uniform, how would you describe your dress sense? I'm a casual person. I don't like heavy attire. What would you like to change/improve on yourself? I'd like to work harder than I already am. What are you plans when you nally retire from the police force? I'd want to go into business but that's denitely until I retire [emphasis on retiring]. What are the 5 things you're taking along with you to an island for a luxurious weekend? [Laughs] My 5 kids of course. My husband can relax while the kids return to detail him on the experience. Do you have any political ambition?

No, I don't. I don't fancy politics. What has been your most heartfelt case that triggered your decision to serve Nigeria wholeheartedly? Nothing basically, I'm just really into the job. The slur towards the police force doesn't make me feel bad either. I love the Nigerian police force and I have no regrets being a policewoman. In my next life, I'd want to be a policewoman. Imagine you were not enlisted at that competition, was there a Plan B? I knew I'd keep running either way even if I wasn't picked. When did you start running? Since my primary school days in the 80s at Medilac primary school, Apapa then I continued in secondary school at United Christian school, Liverpool Apapa, Lagos. I was the top runner during my primary and secondary school days. I was called antelope when in competitions. Would you mind any of your kids being in the police force? It's their choice to make. My son is in The Navy. What's your advice to people on their impression about the police force? The police isn't bad basically. It depends on upbringing. People see you by whatever character that has been instilled in you. If you're to run a charity organization, what would be your focus? My focus will be on motherless babies and orphans because as a mother, I wouldn't want other kids to suffer because I love kids. How do you feel about the numerous awards you've been winning? I feel good about these awards because it tells that people see my work and appreciate it so I feel honoured. How many laurels have you gotten so far? I've lost count but it should be over 15. Our Lady Of Apostle (Primary & Secondary), Women Society Of Nigeria, Saint Dominic Church, Guinness, AIT (Raypower), Ndigbo, JCI International and many more have awarded me so far. Which is your most cherished award? I cherish all of them. I can't pick any over the others. Is there anything that really agitates you? It would be when people lie. I can be diplomatic as a police ofcer but would never lie to you. I value the truth a lot.

How To Care For your Skin by Collette Bouchez
Best Antiaging Product. Before you see the plastic surgeon, before you plunk down half a paycheck on that pricey anti-aging cream, in fact, before you do anything, put on sunscreen. While most of us know it reduces the risk of skin cancer, did you also know it's an amazing beauty secret that can help keep skin looking young? The reason, say experts, is that when sunscreen blocks out the sun's damaging rays, it also blocks their aging effects. Beauty Tip 3: Choose Your Cleanser Wisely If you're a "soap and water" girl (or guy), you may want to rethink your cleansing strategy. Dermatologists say that one of the best beauty tips around is to use the gentlest cleanser you can nd - and use it sparingly. Beauty Tip 4: Use the Right Tools for the Right Job You can have the best eyeshadow money can buy, the world's most luxurious foundation, a bronzer straight from the cosmetic bag of a supermodel. When next you step out for an event and eventually fall in love with some beaded Jewelry, you may have to nd out more because it just might be a product of Beadsbyushpro.
with in the nearest future:
Yes, I would like to design beaded jewelry for top models, runway models, want to make waves and be able to design for artiste. I want everyone to have a piece of my jewelry in their closet.
In less than 4 years, Beadsbyushpro has carved a niche for itself amidst the ongoing competition in the industry. Beadsbyushpro is nothing you've ever seen in terms of quality, beauty and creativity. Well, in a chat with the verstile jewelry designer and CEO of Ushpro Beads, Titilope Ushedo-Kelly, talks about her brand, challenges, motherhood and future projects.
What are your future goals as regards your line of business: In future by God’s grace want to be able to source for material that would speak for itself, I would learn how to make my own jewelries from scratch and I also want to go into full bridal I’m already into making Asooke so would move step by step. Also, I like to have my own one stop building where when you come around you get all you want from wedding gown to asooke to ring to beads in short anything bridal.
Over time, beaded jewelries have become a trendy business. when did you start and why did you go into it and not any other business:
What advice would you give to aspiring bead jewellery designers: My advice to aspiring Bead jewelry design is you need to master your craft, pay attention to details, learn customer relation, be good at what you do and before rushing to startup make sure you learn well and don’t forget to have a mentor who you can run to in case you need any help. Lastly be patient.
I started my beaded jewelry business in Dec 2014. I went into it because I’ve always loved colorful stuffs and I’m very creative at designing but at some points I didn’t know exactly the area where I was going to apply all this to. At rst was considering interior decoration I remembered praying about it and I was led to start my jewelry business.
What's your leisure like: During my leisure I love to sleep, I love traveling so much. I also love dancing.
As a jewelry designer, what does a typical day look like for you (What is your daily routine): Wow! A typical day for me is full! I wake up literally 4am every day, do my prayers, exercise, drink a glass of water, cater for my family, go to work (I have a Bead store), in between check for new designs or draw it out depends. I’m doing my masters in Analytical and Environmental chemistry at Redeemersuniversity, so the days I have lectures I come early to work after dropping my daughter in school. Complete unnished job, give assignment to the girls learning and rush back to school, in between lectures when I have break I come to work again to complete and check up on orders and all. What do you put into consideration when opting for materials and colours to combine while designing your beads:
I love working with attractive colors and quality materials, I also try to ask questions and I check out design in vogue and make my own piece. Sometimes I get inspired just looking at a clothing material and a lot of designs come to my head. But mainly most

Aside business, tell us a little bit about yourself: Asides business I’m passionate about God, I love speaking to women about marriage (even though been married just 5years) by God’s grace. I speak to student on entrepreneurship advantages., I also educate people about general safety in homes, schools etc. I’m a fun person to be with. Being a mother, how do you joggle work and family
people know I love quality materials I have gone to few countries and when I see quality materials I always buy and bring down because I want my designs to be unique.
Creativity is very crucial in your line of business, what are the things that inspire your designs:
Creativity is very crucial in your line of business, what are the things that inspire your designs:
Wow! Looking back, I think all my jewelries are unique in their own way, but I love corals. All my coral pieces are dope and timeless.
A whole lot of things inspire my design ranging from pictures, nature, I have mentors and when I see their own designs I get inspired and get my design from theirs like adding a touch of something different. I get inspired looking at jewelry magazines too. And yes, I get inspiration from the Holy Spirit in that as I sing or pray designs just drop into my mind yes that’s why whenever I’m making a piece I sing and the inspiration ows.
As young entrepreneur in a competitive market such as yours, what are your challenges: The challenges I face in business is mostly getting materials that are relatively cheap and of good quality. One must travel to China to get good material. If I buy material here in Lagos and the cost is high, denitely when I’m selling it would affect the price. I want my jewelries to be special and still affordable.
Wow it’s been God’s grace all the way, sometimes I look at myself and say Titi you are trying! Like I have to joggle with my home, business, school, church and speaking seminars. Well to mention a few as I said earlier I wake up very early because I sleep early too, when I wake up I write a list of what I’m supposed to do that day! So, I plan my movement pack my bag lest I forget stuffs that I need. I have a driver and I have a housekeeper, so it helps me and makes my job easier. Even though I cook myself I try to cook in bulk and refrigerate. My husband has been very supportive and sacrices to make sure things are easier for me. Like one weekend in a month he offers to cook for the family while I rest. When I have a speaking engagement, he edits and checks out what I’ve written down. I make sure I have time for my daughter as soon as school closes I shut down business and any other thing. If it’s urgent I bring it back home and work on it. The Holy Spirit is my greatest helper as I always seek his help and it works for me in the aspect of direction and making my priority list.

How Should I Care for My Teeth and Gums By WebMD
ith proper care, your teeth and gums can stay healthy throughout your life. The healthier your teeth and gums are, the less risk you have for tooth decay and gum disease. There are ve basic steps to caring for teeth and gums: 1. Brush at least twice a day. If you can, brush after every meal. Ideally wait 30 minutes after eating, this will allow any enamel that softened from acid during eating to re-harden and not get brushed away. Brushing removes plaque, a lm of bacteria that clings to teeth. When bacteria in plaque come into contact with food, they produce acids. These acids lead to cavities. To brush: Place a pea-sized dab of uoride toothpasteon the head of the toothbrush. (Use a soft toothbrush.)Place the toothbrush against the teeth at a 45-degree angle up to the gum line.Move the brush across the teeth using a small circular motion. Continue with this motion cleaning one tooth at a time. 2. Keep the tips of the bristles against the gum line. Avoid pressing so hard that the bristles lie at against

the teeth. (Only the tips of the toothbrush clean the teeth.) Let the bristles reach into spaces between teeth.Brush across the top of the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Make sure the bristles get into the grooves and crevices.Use the same small circular motion to clean the backside of the upper and lower teeth -- the side that faces the tongue. To clean the inside of the bottom front teeth, angle the head in an up-and-down position toward the bottom inside of the mouth and move the toothbrush in a small circle. 3. For the inside of the top front teeth, angle the brush in an up-and-down position with the tip of the head pointing towards the roof of the mouth. Move the toothbrush in a small circle.Give your tongue a few gentle brush strokes, brushing from the back of your tongue forward. 4. Do not scrub. This helps remove bacteria and freshens your breath. After brushing your teeth for two to three minutes, rinse your mouth with water. 5. Replace your toothbrush with a new one every three to four months.

Lesson from A Child by Lekan Adeola
It was a bright Wednesday morning, but I didn't look bright. I started by negotiation with my alarm clock for more sleeping time, but it wasn't long before I realized I was extremely late for work. So I entered a 'rush mode'. Rushed prayer - typically a word of prayer. Rushed bath. Rushed dressing. The bus stop was packed with impatient people, and like me, they were likely late for something. Few 'keke marwa' trotted by. Although they were apparently inadequate, considering the crowd at the bus stop. The only option was to rush for a seat in the pocketsize vehicle. Rushing to catch buses was cupcake for me, so it wasn't long before I picked a space right beside a straight-faced young lady who carried a two-year old girl on her laps. The moment I sat down, I noticed the look on the child's face and I immediately knew something was wrong. Wincing and wriggling, she began to mumble, "My leg, my leg". Turned out her right leg had extended to the empty space before I got in, I had pinned down her leg without noticing. Yes, I quickly adjusted. My eyes expressed pity for the child as I said "sorry" and waved to her. Surprisingly she started smiling at me. Oh, really? I smiled back and we became friends. I wish I could say the same for the lady holding her. She gave me a killer stare. A stare so cold I had to immediately switch my gaze to ď€ nd solace in the smile of the child. Throughout the trip I was thinking. What if it was the lady I had directly offended? What if I had mistakenly stepped on her? She would probably have slapped me and loathed me for the rest of the trip, or probably the rest of the day. However, in the case of the child, she forgave me immediately and even smiled at me.
According to Bryant H. McGill, "There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no forgiveness without love." That is why children are the loveliest of creatures. They love easily, forgive easily, and even forget easily. Even Jesus said unless we change and become like little children, we will never enter the kingdom of heaven. In other words, love like children and forgive like children. At times we hold on to unimportant things. Things we should let go. Things that add burdens to our hearts. Things that drag us down. Things that hinder our prayers, according to Mark 11:25. One thing grudge does is passing toxins into our system and this effects our character, reasoning, and general outlook. Grudge is a disease. It spreads. Avoid it at all cost. A great lesson from a child. She was ready for it - the event that followed. She already knew the outcome of my discussion with his 'brother' whom I later got to know his name as Idris. I started to undress her, kissing her all over. I began to thrust. Bodies mixing. Heavy breathing. Then my phone began to ring. On the display is the picture of my girlfriend as the caller. I stopped thrusting. Even though I let the phone ring on until disconnect, an air of guilt swept through me. Then I came out of her. "What the matter?" She asked. "I have a girlfriend." "I know. That's not a problem. I won't bug you," She said. Then she planted a kiss on my lips. "I won't ask for too much." "Are you sure?" I asked. She nodded accent. ~To be continued

The Wedding Party: Destination Dubai by Abigail Ocheibi
For all the obvious reasons, The Wedding Party has changed the status quo in Nollywood as it has risen the bar in terms of casting, scripting, location, delivery and in terms of general quality of what a cinema movie should look like. After a successful release of the ď€ rst part of the movie in 2016, The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai returned to cinema on December 15th, 2017 and it was historic! The movie hit N312 million revenue in 18 days of release, a feat never attained in Nollywood within such a little space of time. The movie had the likes of Patience Ozokwor, Sola Sobowale, Richard Mofe Damejo, Adesua Etomi, Enyinna Nwigwe and more as cast and we think it was just perfect. The Grand Premiere in Lagos was attended by loads of stylish personalities showing us how to pull off an "Arabian themed premiere" . The movie which was co-produced by media mogul, Mo Abudu will give you just the right amount you comicdrama you need to see at a typical Nigerian Wedding Party. Well done to the entire crew, we love eeet!

Wizkid The Concert
by Abigail Ocheibi
One of the major highlights of 2017 in Nigeria's music industry is denitely the just concluded Wizkid's concert; Wizkid The Concert. The event did only not sell out but also did put a smile on our faces for so many reasons. First, the singer wowed the crowd when he brought on stage for the rst time, Boluwatife, his 6-year old rst child. No, that wasn't all, the Star Boy also came on stage with co-star, Davido after several months of their much publicised battle for supremacy. What a year!

Another highlight of the night was when a young man named Ahmed was opportuned to perform at the concert which earned him a record deal alongside N10m courtesy of Wizkid. From hashtags, posts, videos and photos, it was obvious that everyone couldn't get enough of such an amazing night with one of Nigeria's biggest music export, Starboy. He shook both the venue and the internet as the buzz was endless. Music acts such as Phyno, Olamide, Wande Coal, 2Baba, Mayorkun and more also graced the stage. Take a look at some appearances and highlights from the show.
