WHY ARE

KNEE INJURIES so common?

It’s estimated that there are about 10 million patients every year who see their doctor because of common knee injuries like

sprains, ligament tears, dislocations, and fractures. In fact, knee issues are one of the most common reasons people go to the doctor. When you consider the fact that the knee transfers the entire weight of your body through your knees down to your feet, it makes sense why the knee is so susceptible to injury. The knee is also a complex structure, made up of bones, ligaments, cartilage, and tendons to support your body and allow you to walk and move. Treatment will depend on the severity and type of knee injury. If you have a knee injury that requires surgery, the team at OSR Physical Therapy can help you get back into shape after the surgery – restoring range-of-motion, function, flexibility, and strength. If your injury does not require surgery, like a sprain or minor ligament tear, or if you’re suffering from chronic knee pain, OSR Physical Therapy can help in those situations as well. Our team of therapists is experienced in addressing your knee issues while also looking at the overall picture of your health. Knee pain may be due to other issues, like your hips or lower back, so don’t be surprised if your physical therapist gives you exercises for areas of your body that are not your knee. Generally, a physical therapist will help you correct your form and will focus on exercises and movements that will strengthen weak muscles, increase flexibility in stiff joints and ligaments, and address overall function issues. The therapist may also recommend other therapies, like icing the knee, bracing, or the use of electrical stimulation treatments.

Whether you’re coming back from an injury, have had nagging knee pain for awhile, or had surgery on your knee, the team at OSR Physical Therapy can help you get back on your feet and back in action! If you have questions about how physical therapy can help your knee pain, make sure to ask at your next appointment or stop by any OSR Physical Therapy location!
