“5 YEARS IN HARMONY: HIGH FIVE”
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC As May 27, 2012 draws closer for the 5th anniversary of TawagAwit as a ministry, Bro Cyril Bas, servant leader of the St Mary’s Northcote chapter, said that “being part of the TawagAwit Ministry was absolutely fantastic.” Bro Cyril with his wife, Rose, joined the group in August 2007, and has been leading the chapter since January 2010. According to Bro Cyril, “Who would have thought that this small choir group I have joined 5 years ago will become a ministry today and has grown to seven chapters serving most of the parishes here in Auckland. I am really grateful to be part of this ministry. I have lots of fun and my family have enjoyed serving the Lord through singing which make our weekend more meaningful.” When Bro Cyril mentions the word, “grateful”, that has much meaning to the Bas couple and to members of the St Mary’s chapter. One of the continuing prayers of the group then, was for Bro Cyril and Sis Rose to conceive a baby that they had sought for years. Two years later KC was born to the couple, and yes, they have been truly grateful for the wonderful heavenly gift that is their baby girl, who has come to love music as much as her parents. St Mary’s Northcote nurtured TawagAwit in its early years with the kind support of parish priest Fr Craig Dunford who assigned the group to sing in the church once a month and allowed the holding of some of the activities of the ministry including SingAlleluia!, Teaching Night, OG: Open Gathering, GigAlive, and Food & Music FEAST. Today, TawagAwit-St Mary’s Northcote sings every second Sunday of the month at 10:30am. Pianist Jenny Fox accompanies the group, with Bro Bert Adviento and Bro Cyril providing guitar accompaniment at times. While some members have come and gone, the chapter remains committed “to spreading God’s Word through music and other acts of love”, as it actively recruits new members, most recently, Kate Martinez and Maria Victorino. The active members of the chapter include Cyril Bas, Rose Bas, Kassandra Claire Bas, Bert Adviento, Rose Adviento, Eleanor Adviento, Jo Matiga, Jerry Matiga, Ogie Bonilla, Aya Roca and Ian Roca.
