BLESSIE GOTINGCO

OFFICIAL STATEMENT The Katilingbang Bisaya sa New Zealand (The Society of Visayans in New Zealand) expresses its disbelief on the death of Blesilda “Blessie” Gotingco, formerly of Cebu, Visayas, Philippines and a resident of Auckland.

Many of us, her kababayans, were anxious on her disappearance on 24 May, and prayed hard for a hopeful resolution; but the news on the finding her lifeless body on 27 May has brought both sadness and anger to all of us.

Many of us have come to New Zealand to pursue better lives for ourselves and our children, knowing that this country is generally peaceful and safe. In a sense that belief has been partially shattered with the dastardly act committed against Blessie; the consolation being the swift conduct of the investigation and the eventual arrest of the person accused of the crime.

Many of us feel the pain of the family in the sudden loss of a wife and a mother who worked tirelessly to provide them a better future.

Premises considered: [a] We seek for justice to be served speedily and that the accused be punished appropriately, as deterrent for others to commit such evil crime; [b] We condemn the criminal act against an innocent individual, and ask government to adopt such measures to keep our communities safe; [c] We ask everyone to pray for the repose of the soul of Blessie and for strength and courage to family members she has left behind; [d] We commend the police and everyone concerned that exerted effort that led to the prompt arrest of the suspect of the crime; and [e] We invite everyone to a People’s Prayer for Blessie Gotingco on Saturday 31 May 2014 at 9:00 am in Wakaaranga School, 18 Butley Drive, Auckland to show support to the Gotingco family and to demonstrate solidarity against criminality.
