BAKTIN v IRO IN LINGAWDUWA 3 Of the twelve tribus vying to win the over-all championship of LingawDuwa2015, two are out to prove their worthiness to raise the TAHANANG PILIPINO CUP having won the first two editions of the Filipino Sporting Event of the Year. Tribu Irong Kagiron took the title in 2013, while Tribu Bakting Kiat (formerly known as Machong Baboy) wrested the championship in 2014.

Led by tribal leader Mikki Guantero, Tribu Irong Kagiron took the runner-up position last year together with its development team, Tribu Itoy sa Irong Kagiron. In a short, yet bold message to the organisers, he wrote “(My tribus) are all set and ready for the games.” That should alert, Bakting Kiat tribal leader Ching Mandawe who will be missing some key players in last year’s games. But knowing the never-say-die attitude of Ching, the cutesy appearance of its logo may be hiding the brute strength of Machong Baboy.

The winning tribus though must not be too confident as other teams are out to snare their ambitions.

Experienced players of tribus Barangay Putyukan, Enkantong Bangis, Tiking Kwanggol and Igot-Igot have a fighting chance this year. Newbies tribus Guapo ug Guapa, Kutsero nzpbc and Dabarkadz could pull off surprises. Tribu Ibalon Hadiong uragonz and Tribu Saksak Sinagol are expected to compete in select events. LingawDuwa will be held on November 21, 2015 at the Henderson Intermediate School, 70 Lincoln Road, Henderson, Auckland. This is open to the public.

LINGAWDUWA VENUE DECLARED ZERO-TRASH ZONE The organisers of the Filipino Sporting Event of the Year expressed their intention for a tidy and earth-friendly LINGAWDUWA. They have therefore declared the venue of the event as a ‘Zero-Trash Zone’ (ZTZ).

The use of compostable or recyclable plates, bowls, cups and flatware is encouraged.

Note: Utensils: Plastic utensils are NOT recyclable and must be reused or disposed of in the trash.

Each tribu must make sure their members know that you are composting and recycling, and what items go into which containers. Make signs that list what does — and doesn’t — go into each container. Each tribu must bring their own trash bins or bags segregating trash from compostable and recyclables.

Trash bins or bags must be placed side-by-side. Wherever you have a receptacle for recyclables, compostables, or trash, be sure to have them all side-by-side. When people have something in their hands that they want to get rid of, they tend to throw it in whatever container is nearest to them. By always having all containers together, along with signs explaining what to put where, you’re more likely to get them to make the best disposal choice, rather than just what’s expedient.

Before you leave your picnic space or tribu gathering area, make sure that the surrounding is neat and tidy and trash is brought back to your respective homes.

The organisers said: “If we attain ZTZ, all of us should get a perfect rating of TEN.”
