PRO EARTH, PRO CHILDREN GAMES
While promoting Filipino culture and camaraderie among Filipinos in New Zealand, LingawDuwa has incorporated pro-earth and child-friendly measures in the conduct the event on November 21, 2015 in Henderson Intermediate School, 70 Lincoln Road, Henderson, Auckland. One of the pre-game contests is the ‘Best Tribu Banner” wherein each team is encouraged to design a banner that would reflect their name, while at the same, use recycled materials. The organizers will declare the venue a ‘Zero-Trash Zone”, that requires all tribus, players and spectators to leave no litter and bring these back to their homes. Majority of the games are focused towards the mature and youth competitors. Yet the children, 10 years and below, have their own set of contests in Tumba Lata, Luksong Tinik, Luksong Lubid and Piko. During the Tribu Leaders’ Meeting on October 18, the children played a demo game of tumba lata (see above photo) to the enjoyment of the adults who also had a chance at the game themselves. LingawDuwa, the Filipino Sporting Event of the Year, has attracted 12 tribus. MasterChef NZ finalist Leo Fernandez has been invited as guest and is expected to talk about his experience in the competition and answer questions during the Q & A portion during the lunch break.
