IT’S THE FILIPINO FAMILY DAY

There is so much excitement among members of the New Zealand Philippine Business Council (NZPBC) as they prepare for LINGAWDUWA2015. In September, NZPBC marked its 15th founding anniversary with a weeklong celebration highlighted by the successful 2015 NZPBC Cup that drew 72 golfers. (See above photo) NZPBC is composed of Filipino businessmen and professionals who have come together with the object of promoting an increased awareness by New Zealand business of the growing number of Filipino entrepreneurs and professionals in New Zealand. It aims to enhance the profile of the Filipino migrant and encourage B2B synergy and increased bilateral trade between the Philippines and New Zealand. Business leader Lito Banal who heads the organisation said that LingawDuwa will not only allow their members and their families to participate in the indigenous Pinoy Games, “the event will also serve as the group’s family day activity with other Filipino groups.” Leilani Dizon, Media and Public Relations director, wrote: “We can treat the event as a team building.” The group adopted as its name “Tribu Kutsero”. Nick Salas, Special Projects Director, is the ‘Chef de Mission’, while director Ed Viterbo has enlisted with the cheering squad. According to Banal, NZPBC will put up a tribu tent, install a BBQ burner, spread picnic mats, and constitute a first aid team. As a first timer in LingawDuwa, ‘Tribu Kutsero’ according to Banal is “in for the fun, but who knows we will win some of the games.” For members who intend to join, they are asked to email: nsalas@ihug.co.nz Acknowledging the participation of NZPBC as a boost to the event,” LingawDuwa organiser Mel B Libre, explained: “We have always conceived of LingawDuwa as a family-oriented program where parents and grandparents reminisce the games they used to play while children and grandchildren learn, engage, and have fun. This could serve as the Filipino Family Day in Auckland.” Twelve tribus will compete for honours on November 21, 2015 at the Henderson Intermediate School, 70 Lincoln Road, Henderson, Auckland.
