TRIBAL LEADERS FINALISE EVENT No rain, no storm can stop LingawDuwa from happening on November 21, 2015 in Henderson Intermediate School, Auckland. That is how determined the organisers and tribal leaders are to ensure the successful conduct of the third edition of the Filipino Sporting Event of the Year. In their final meeting on November 7 at the conference room in McDonald’s New Lynn, the organising committee and the leaders of the participating tribus discussed the details of the forthcoming event including the mechanics of the games, the pre-event contests and sundry items. “We must make the games as authentic as possible,” Barangay Putyakan’s leader Roland Abandingo suggested, to which all of those present agreed. “If our intention is for our children to learn these indigenous games, then we must play these as we did back home,” he added. The group agreed on the schedule of activities for the day starting with the registration at 8:00am followed by the Parada at 8:30am. The actual games are timed at 9:30am. There will be a lunch break, picnic style and at 1:15pm MasterChef NZ finalist Leo Fernandez will make an appearance in a Q&A program. The competitions will continue at 2:00pm with the target of 4:00pm for the awarding ceremony. LingawDuwa organiser Mel Libre described the meeting as “cordial, jolly and unifying.” Host Tribu Bakting Kiat leader Ching Mandawe said “we’re excited for the participants and the visitors, and I’m praying for a perfect weather to welcome them all.” Twelve tribus will compete for honours on November 21, 2015 at the Henderson Intermediate School, 70 Lincoln Road, Henderson, Auckland.
