August 2013

SECOND MIRACLE THROUGH JPII Pope Francis has approved a second miracle attributed to the intercession of Pope John Paul II, clearing the way for his canonization just eight years after his death. TawagAwit welcomes the announcement with much joy as Blessed John Paul II is the ministry’s patron, and a number of healing among members and friends have been attributed through his intercession. TawagAwit also made a 40-day novena leading towards the 2011 Rugby World Cup for New Zealand’s All Blacks to win, and in a thrilling finale, the All Blacks won. A special Consistory of the College of Cardinals has been called to decide upon the details of the canonization of Blessed John Paul II; Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said that while dates have not been set, it is possible that John Paul together with John XXIII will be canonized at the same time. He also stated that he believed the canonizations would take place before the end of the year.

Concerning the miracle attributed to John Paul II’s intercession was the healing of a severely ill woman from Costa Rica. Spanish newspaper La Razon has identified her as Floribeth Mora, and said she suffered from a cerebral aneurism that was inexplicably cured on May 1, 2011 — the very day of John Paul's beatification. Her family prayed for her at the time; she had been given only a month to live. Her doctor, Dr. Alejandro Vargas, told La Razon that the disappearance of the aneurism “surprised me a lot” and that he couldn’t explain it “based on science." Some reports say the exact details of the miracle, which will "amaze the world". The first miracle that led to John Paul II’s beatification in 2011 concerned Sister Marie Simon Pierre, whose recovery from Parkinson's disease could not be explained by a Vatican panel of medical experts.

The Intercession of Blessed John Paul II By Bro Mel B Libre A miracle has been confirmed by the Vatican paving the way for the canonization of Blessed John Paul II. Admirers of one of the longest serving Pontiffs of the Roman Catholic Church are elated about this announcement, more so the Costa Rican woman who was healed of brain aneurysm. Floribeth Mora (photo above) was told that she was doing to die, after doctors diagnosed her of aneurysm in 2011. She sought the late pope’s intercession at the time when he was beatified, and for no apparent reason, she was totally healed. She testified that while viewing the beatification of Pope John Paul II, she saw his photo in a magazine, and heard a voice saying, ‘Get up, don’t be afraid’. She stood up and felt better. When she had herself examined by the doctors, nobody could explain how the aneurysm disappeared. For TawagAwit, the announcement of the Vatican is such welcome news. Blessed John Paul II is our ministry’s patron, and our members have asked favors from him. Two of the most significant were: for the healing of our sister Elvie who was in advance stage of cancer and the victory of New Zealand’s All Blacks in the last Rugby World Cup. In the latter we had 40-days prayer, and on Sundays said the rosary in Blessed John Paul II Mass Centre, Albany, Auckland. Our prayers were heard. I have asked fellow members to continue seeking the intercession of Blessed John Paul II using the following words: O Blessed Trinity, we thank You for having graced the Church with Blessed John Paul II and for allowing the tenderness of Your Fatherly care, the glory of the Cross of Christ, and the splendor of the Spirit of love, to shine through him. Trusting fully in Your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal communion with You. Grant us, by his intercession, and according to Your will, the graces we implore, hoping that he will soon be numbered among Your saints. Amen. Blessed John Paul II unceasingly intercedes for us. Should you need healing or are in a difficult situation, recite heartily the prayer above. Your prayer will be answered. Believe me.

Papal Intentions August 2013: General. That parents and teachers may help the new generation to grow in upright conscience and life. Mission. That the local Church in Africa, faithfully proclaiming the Gospel, may promote peace and justice ‌ Pope Francis commissioned some 3 million young people to join forces and form what could be called Missionaries without Borders. "Where does Jesus send us?" he asked World Youth Day pilgrims July 28. "There are no borders, no limits: He sends us to everyone." On the white sand of Copacabana beach -under partly sunny skies, a relief after days of rain in Rio -- Pope Francis celebrated the closing Mass for the July 23-28 celebration of World Youth Day Rio. Although retired Pope Benedict XVI had chosen the theme for the gathering -- "Go and make disciples of all nations" -- it was tailor-made for Pope Francis, who continually tells Catholics: "Go out. Go forward. Keep going." "Sharing the experience of faith, bearing witness to the faith, proclaiming the Gospel: this is a command that the Lord entrusts to the whole church and that includes you," he told his beachfront congregation, which included hundreds of thousands who had spent the night on the sand, sleeping or not. Long journeys, days of rain and sometimes improvised accommodations did not dampen the spirits of the World Youth Day participants, and Pope Francis told them that if they did not share their experience of God's love with others it would be "like withholding oxygen from a flame that was burning strongly." Jesus did not tell his disciples to share the Gospel "if you would like to, if you have the time," the pope said. Instead, he commanded them to proclaim the Good News to the world. Sharing the love and mercy of God and the salvation offered by Christ through the church "is born not from a desire for domination or power, but from the force of love," the pope told the young pilgrims, who were joined on the beach by tens of thousands of Rio residents and other Latin Americans, including Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Bolivian President Evo Morales and Suriname's President Desi Bouterse. But even more special guests were present: The pope invited a couple and their baby girl, who has anencephaly (missing part of her brain), to come forward during the offertory. Pope Francis met the family July 27 as he was leaving Rio's St. Sebastian Cathedral and invited them to participate in the Mass. Under Brazil's abortion laws, the couple would have been able to abort the child, but chose not to. With the father carrying the baby, the parents walked up to the pope wearing shirts with a Portuguese message on the back: "Stop abortion." In his homily, Pope Francis told the young people that evangelizing requires a personal witness of love for God and love for others, especially the weak, the poor and the defenseless. When the psalm says "Sing a new song to the Lord," he said, it is not talking about a certain set of lyrics or a specific melody, rather "it is allowing our life to be identified with that of Jesus; it is sharing his sentiments, his thoughts (and) his actions." "The life of Jesus is a life for others," the pope said. "It is a life of service." He gave the younger generation a final instruction, "As you return to your homes, do not be afraid to be generous with Christ, to bear witness to his Gospel." (Catholic News Service)
