NEW NOTES TawagAwit Newsletter

July 2012

COMPLETION OF SONGBOOK SET The publication of an electronic copy of the TawagAwit Songbook is nearing completion with almost 100 songs already encoded. The ongoing project aims to compile the most popular hymns that are sung by the different chapters in their respective parishes. For the past two years, the editorial team has received copies of the songs with chords from servant leaders and music coordinators. The ministry aims to publish two editions, one that contains only the lyrics and the other complete with chords. It was the consensus of servant leaders that with the compilation less documents will need to be printed, and a more orderly system can be maintained by members.

We Need You TawagAwit invites you to help in spreading God’s Word through music and other acts of love. You can be a: (1) member; (2) supporter or (3) organizer A member is one who can attend to the regular activities of the Ministry. The minimum participation are: attendance during practice sessions of songs, usually once a week or once every two weeks AND singing with the group during the assigned mass usually once a month or once every two months. A supporter is one who can donate services or resources to the Ministry. There are special events that TawagAwit organizes and the events need finances or helping hands. An organizer is one who initiates the formation of a chapter in a parish. The Ministry will provide all the assistance within its means to help in the vital task.

It has been observed that each time a new set of songs are selected for a mass, the chapters have to print these for use during the practices, using numerous sheets of paper and costly ink. “We need to embrace the new technology, while at the same time, help sustain the environment, said Bro Mel B Libre, Lead Servant of TawagAwit. It has also been suggested that the songbook contain the names of members not only to have accounting of the number of brethren in the ministry, but also for easier communication. Members are invited to submit the layout of the possible cover of the songbook. Proposals will be accepted until August 31, 2012. The editorial team has set the deadline for the submission of songs for inclusion in the songbook on September 30, 2012. The release is tentatively scheduled on November 1, 2012. .

Editorial: Getting More Involved Is participation in the offering during masses the only way to promote the mission of TawagAwit in “spreading God’s Word through music and other acts of love”? It has been instilled among the members of TawagAwit that the basic obligation of a member is to sing during the chapter’s assigned masses. Of course, the need to attend the practices is a given, for how can one deliver the best offering to the Lord without familiarising one’s self with the songs, and harmonising with co-members? Yet, there are other opportunities within the ministry to have a more meaningful relationship with co-members, a more meaningful relationship with God. For instance, one can volunteer to assist the servant leaders in their tasks such as song selection, printing out of the lyric sheets or offering to host in one’s home a gathering. Even little tasks can make a lot of difference like leading in the opening or closing prayers or assisting in the placement of the microphones and other sound equipment. There are also activities that allow us to meet members of other chapters such as the ministry-wide Food & Music FEAST or in Open Gathering where we serve new migrants during Christmas. If you want to be a true missionary, why not try to initiate in organising a new chapter? For isn’t the intention of TawagAwit to establish “as many chapters as there are parishes in the world”? Efforts have been made to find brethren in the Philippines, Australia and the United States who have the courage to do just that. In the five years since the establishment of TawagAwit, servant leaders and members have contributed to the ministry’s growth. We pray to the Holy Spirit that He will send more workers to our ministry in order to fulfill our vision of bringing “Harmony in the World.”

VATICAN NOTES: Papal Intentions July 2012 General Intention: That everyone may have work in safe and secure conditions. Missionary Intention: That Christian volunteers in mission territories may witness to the love of Christ...The demands of work can't bully people out of needed time off, Pope Benedict XVI said. Sunday must be a day of rest for everyone, so people can be free to be with their families and with God, the pope said. "By defending Sunday, one defends human freedom," he said during his weekly general audience in St. Peter's Square June 6. In his catechesis, the pope told an estimated 15,000 pilgrims and visitors about his trip June 1-3 to Milan for the seventh World Meeting of Families. "Humanity has no future without the family," he said. Young people need to be born and raised in "that community of life and love that God himself wanted," that is, a family based on marriage between a man and woman, he said.... The life of a baptized Christian must be marked by a constant effort to say "yes" to God and "no" to the devil and all of his lies, Pope Benedict XVI said. In baptism, "we are united to God in a new existence, we belong to God, we are immersed in God himself," the pope said June 12, opening the annual pastoral convention of the Diocese of Rome at the Basilica of St. John Lateran. At the moment of baptism and when baptismal promises are renewed, as at the Easter vigil, Christians renounce Satan, all his works and all his lies, the pope said, “Christians find fulfillment not by using power or force to realize their own wishes, but by being submissive to God's will and serving others.... As the international community looks for ways to protect the environment while promoting development, it must keep the good of human beings and the protection of human dignity as its central goals, according to the Vatican. It warns that efforts to promote a "green economy" of environmentally friendly goods and services could lead to "green protectionism," rewarding technologically advanced countries and hurting the poor. The Vatican's position paper was published June 14 by L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper in time for U.N. Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development. The position paper applauds the "unanimous consensus" that has emerged around the notion that "protecting the environment means improving peoples' lives." But, the Vatican says that too often the international community focuses almost exclusively on technological solutions to environmental degradation and treats the problems human beings face as simply another set of technological challenges. "The process of development cannot be left to purely technical solutions, for in this way it would lack ethical direction," the position paper says. And it is unethical to act as if human beings are simply obstacles to sustainable development. The key to simultaneously protecting the environment, cleaning up pollution and triggering economic growth, the Vatican says, is "adopting and promoting in every situation a way of life which respects the dignity of each human being," and promoting research and technology that safeguards creation without endangering human beings.
