NEW NOTES TawagAwit Newsletter

May 2010

Celebrating Easter Members of TawagAwit celebrated Easter Sunday in company of one another, as most pursued their respective sacrifices and offerings during the Lenten season. Bro Bert and Sis Rosana Adviento participated in the community choir organized purposely to sing during the masses on Holy Week at St Mary’s Northcote, while others observed the Visita Iglesia by visiting and praying in at least seven parishes. There were those who actively participated in prayers in the Stations of the Cross ceremonies in the parishes. Others simply stayed in their homes to reflect on Gospel readings, while a few viewed religious movies.

Papal Address: Pope Benedict XVI delivering his message on Easter Sunday Lenten: Pope Benedict prays in Malta (top) and Pope John Paul II with Cardinal Thomas Spidlik (below)

Vatican Notes: Pope’s Intention for May 2010: General: That the shameful and monstrous commerce in human beings, which sadly involves millions of women and children, may be ended. Missionary: That ordained ministers, religious women and men, and lay people involved in apostolic work may understand how to infuse missionary enthusiasm into the communities entrusted to their care...The resurrection of Christ is an event that changed the course of history and reversed the destiny of death the whole world faced, said Benedict XVI on Easter Sunday. April 4, 2010. The Pope affirmed this before tens of thousands, many hiding under umbrellas to escape the rain in St. Peter’s Square. The Holy Father offered his Easter greetings in 65 languages. “Yes, my brothers and sisters, Easter is the true salvation of humanity,” the Pontiff proclaimed. “If Christ -- the Lamb of God -- had not poured out his blood for us, we would be without hope, our destiny and the destiny of the whole world would inevitably be death. But Easter has reversed that trend: Christ’s resurrection is a new creation, like a graft that can regenerate the whole plant. It is an event that has profoundly changed the course of history, tipping the scales once and for all on the side of good, of life, of pardon.” (zenit.org)...Pope Benedict XVI met with eight victims of priestly sex abuse in Malta and promised them the church would do "all in its power" to bring offenders to justice and protect children. The pope was "deeply moved by their stories and expressed his shame and sorrow over what victims and their families have suffered," a Vatican statement said after the private encounter April 18. "He prayed with them and assured them that the church is doing, and will continue to do, all in its power to investigate allegations, to bring to justice those responsible for abuse and to implement effective measures designed to safeguard young people in the future," the statement said. Participants said the victims cried as they told their stories, and that the pope had tears in his eyes as he listened...Pope Benedict XVI says Christ's will for his followers to be with him and behold his glory is like a type of strong and gentle embrace that leads man to eternal life. The Pope said on April 20 in a reflection he gave at the conclusion of the funeral for Cardinal Tomas Spidlik, 90, who died April 16 in Rome. The Jesuit cardinal was renowned for the contribution he made to theological dialogue between the East and West. The Holy Father noted that among the prelate's dying words were these: "I have looked for the face of Jesus during my whole life, and now I am happy and at peace because I am about to see it." The Pope linked this "wonderful thought" to the prayer of Jesus in John's Gospel: "Father, I desire that they also, whom thou hast given me, may be with me where I am, to behold my glory which thou hast given me in thy love for me before the foundation of the world." He said it is "beautiful and consoling" to consider thus how man's desire corresponds to Christ's desire. "In reality, that [desire] of Christ is much more than an aspiration: It is a will," the Pontiff clarified. (zenith.org)
