BQQ IN FEAST To add excitement to the fifth anniversary of the founding of TawagAwit, the Bible Quotient Quiz (BQQ) will see teams from the different chapters competing as the inaugural champion. BQQ is one of the portions of the Teaching Nights conducted by Teachers in Sandals Fellowship, the sister ministry of TawagAwit. Bro Denis Tutaka, cst, will serve as Quiz Master.

This year’s celebration of Food & Music FEAST will begin with the Thanksgiving Mass at 10:30am wherein the members of the different chapters are expected to sing their assigned parts. Fr Sam Pulanco, chaplain of the Auckland Catholic Tertiary Chaplaincy, will officiate the Mass that is also intended for Bro Peter Gayaman, servant leader of the St Thomas More chapter, who will take his oath as Barrister in New Zealand on May 25, 2012 at the Auckland High Court.

We Need You TawagAwit invites you to help in spreading God’s Word through music and other acts of love.

You can be a: (1) member; (2) supporter or (3) organizer A member is one who can attend to the regular activities of the Ministry. The minimum participation are: attendance during practice sessions of songs, usually once a week or once every two weeks AND singing with the group during the assigned mass usually once a month or once every two months.

Members are encouraged to bring their best dishes for participants to partake during the shared lunch. The program proceeds in the early afternoon with performances and reflections from select members. Recognition will be given to servant leaders or members who have given exemplary services to the ministry in the Inspirational Brethren Awards (IBA).

As a build up to the event, FEAST NEWS, a weekly publication, has featured servant leaders on thoughts on the struggles and achievements of their respective chapters.

The Food & Music FEAST will be held on Sunday May 27, 10:30am at the Blessed John Paul II Mass Centre, Gate 4, Massey University, Albany Highway, Auckland.

A supporter is one who can donate services or resources to the Ministry. There are special events that TawagAwit organizes and the events need finances or helping hands.

An organizer is one who initiates the formation of a chapter in a parish. The Ministry will provide all the assistance within its means to help in the vital task.

Quick Notes: Bro Peter Gayaman, Servant Leader of TawagAwit-St Thomas More Glenfield, takes his oath as a Barrister in New Zealand on May 25 in the Auckland High Court.

In his message to members of the chapter, Bro Mel B Libre wrote, “He (Bro Peter) had done so (that is becoming a barrister) while juggling so many things, as a court registry officer, as a part time health worker, as a father, as a servant leader - truly he is an inspiration to us all.” The entire TawagAwit ministry extends its congratulations to Bro Peter on this achievement…Through the initiative of Bro Mikki Guantero, TawagAwit may soon have a new chapter in Christ the King Parish-Owairaka located in 260 Richardson Road, Mt Roskill, Auckland. Bro Romil and Sis Cherry C. Thelmo-Fernandez have invited three other families for an orientation and practice of songs with Bro Mel B Libre on May 5, 2012, 7pm….TawagAwit-Blessed John Paul II, Albany, joined other ministries in the Stations of the Cross through the streets of Auckland City on Good Friday. Organized by the Auckland Catholic Tertiary Chaplaincy, brethren carried a wooden cross as more than a hundred participated in the procession on April 6 that concluded in St Patrick’s Cathedral…TawagAwit- Our Lady of Lourdes, Glen Eden, will lead in the singing of missal songs during the Tertiary Mass in St Patrick’s Cathedral on May 13 on the occasion of Mother’s Day. This is the second time that the chapter has been invited by Fr Sam Pulanco to make the music offering…TawagAwit-St Mary’s Northcote on April 21 joined other well-wishers during the birthday celebration of Sis Rose Bas, wife of Bro Cyril Bas, servant leader of the chapter. Sis Rose said that she never celebrates her birthday, as she’d rather give gifts to others for the occasion. Not having had a debut party on her 18th birthday, Sis Rose was given a debutante theme party highlighted with "cotillion dance” and a heartfelt song from Bro Cyril.

Missionary Intention: That Mary, Queen of the World and Star of Evangelization, may accompany all missionaries in proclaiming her Son Jesus ‌ God is always calling people to dedicate themselves fully to serving him, but they often don't hear because they are either too distracted or afraid they would no longer be free if they answered the call, Pope Benedict XVI said. "Let us pray that all young people pay attention to the voice of God, who speaks to their hearts and calls them to detach themselves from everything in order to serve him," he said April 29 -- the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, "The Lord is always calling us, but very often we don't listen. We are distracted by many things, by other voices that are more superficial and because we are afraid to listen to the Lord's voice because we think that it can take away our freedom." But everyone on the earth is deeply loved by God, and as soon as people become aware of that love, their lives change by becoming a response to God's love, which in turn means human freedom is fully realized, the pope said... Preparing children for their first Communion must be done with both great zeal and moderation, Pope Benedict XVI said. Around the world, many children receive their first Communion during the Easter season, he told pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square April 22. He stressed the importance of first Communion and prayed that Mary would help everyone listen to God's word with greater attention and "take part worthily" in Communion in order to become "witnesses of the new humanity"‌When a community is faced with crisis, persecution and trouble, it should come together in prayer for strength from God, not formulate strategic plans to defend itself from difficulties, Pope Benedict XVI said. Unity is fundamental, he said, and the community needs to come together and ask "only to proclaim the word of God fearlessly in the face of persecution," not to avoid tests, trials and tribulation. There was a festive atmosphere during the pope's general audience in St. Peter's Square April 18 -- two days after the pope turned 85 years old.

Thousands of pilgrims sang "Happy Birthday" when a Bavarian band struck up the tune, and smaller groups of the 22,000 people present sang or shouted "Happy Birthday" in their native languages‌Light and darkness, truth and lies, hope and despair are in a constant battle in the world, but with his death and resurrection Jesus conquered sin and death for all time, Pope Benedict XVI said on Easter. "If Jesus is risen, then -- and only then -- has something truly new happened, something that changes the state of humanity and the world," the pope told tens of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square before giving his Easter blessing "urbi et orbi" (to the city and the world). With the sun shining on the square -- transformed into a garden with 42,000 flowers, flowering plants, shrubs and trees -- Pope Benedict began the celebration of the morning Mass April 8 just 10 hours after having finished celebrating the three-hour long Easter vigil in St. Peter's Basilica. The resurrection means that Jesus belongs not just to the past, but is present today, giving hope and comfort to all those who suffer, the pope said.
