OG: Hosting New Migrants Migrating to a new country is not easy. Going into different environment mean adjusting to people, processes and norms. A new migrant may feel isolated without family or friends. A new migrant may feel frustrated, having the required work experience only to receive rejection letters for applications. A new migrant may feel abandoned, as there seems to be no one to turn during the stressful time of fitting into society. The most difficult season for a new migrant is during Christmas, when families gather to celebrate the birth of Christ. Without your loved ones, Christmas can truly be “blue, as one song goes. TawagAwit for the past four Christmases has hosted new migrants with the intention of bringing the true spirit of the season. On Sunday December 18, 2012, 2pm, OG: Open Gathering will treat new migrants to songs, food, gifts and fun. This year, parishioners of Blessed John Paul II Mass Centre, Albany together with the Auckland Catholic Tertiary Chaplaincy, Teachers in Sandals Fellowship, TawagAwit and other support groups are lending their hands, and sharing their hearts to bring love, joy and goodwill to new migrants. We therefore invite new migrants (those who arrived in New Zealand within the past two years) to sign-up, as we want to treat you and your family in this new country that we now call home. With the limited space available in the venue, the first twelve new migrants (and their families) to sign up will be our very special guests. Email: librelaw@yahoo.com now. It is that easy. SEALED WITH A KIS The power pop trio KIS has committed to join OG: Open Gathering 2011 on December 18, 2011, 2pm in Blessed John Paul II Mass Centre, Albany. Kayth, Ina and Shaine have grown together singing and performing, appearing in cultural and social events and competed in talent competitions. In 2011, KIS took a major move, by securing vocal coach Ann de Guzman as mentor. The group appeared in the Sinulog event, the Ginang Kalayaan pageant, GigAlive in Henderson, KBNZ’s Pasko sa mga Bisdak and Christmas in the Park in West Auckland. KIS was given the People’s Choice Award in the New Zealand-wide Pinoyz Got Talent during the Labour Weekend in Hamilton. To further hone their talents, the triumvirate has taken piano lessons and started composing their own songs. In 2012, KIS will start the year as cover girls of the international music magazine, CORD, in its Super Hero issue. The group will be one of the guest performers in the “biggest Pinoy Dance Party in Auckland” – DISCO DISKORAL on January 28, 2012 in the North Shore. You are assured that the girls’ performance will be sealed with a KIS. Catch them while you can.
