Updates on Teachers in Sandals Fellowship
02 May 2013
CONNECTING PEOPLE, BRO SAM Bro Sam, newly appointed Lay Chaplain assigned to Teachers in Sandals Fellowship, delivered his Basic Speech 1 during Teaching Night on 2 May 2013 at the Newman Hall. Speaking extemporaneously, Bro Sam, a Pakeha, had everyone smiling at the start when he said that he was an Islander (“I’m an Islander, I come from Waiheke Island”.) He said that the reasons why he joined the Auckland Catholic Tertiary Chaplaincy were because of his Catholic faith and his desire to connect to people. He cited examples of his “connecting” ability during his school days as well as in his previous work. Due to the absence of two other assigned speakers, Bro Mel volunteered to deliver a speech entitled, “I Believe in Miracles”. He said, “Miracles are badges of God’s love for His people. Hence, miracles are meant to be told, to be narrated, to be testified, to create awareness of God’s holiness, goodness and justice. If we are to limit our testimonies to people who already believe, we have failed to accomplish the purpose of God’s miracles.” He concluded: “For believers, it is our duty, our responsibility, our mission to bear witness to the Word of God, to tell unbelievers of God’s teachings, of God’s love, of God’s miracles”. Bro Fred, in Smilines, amazed the audience with his mind-defying “Snaps” presentation. Sis Laura focused on Mary in Brieflynes, while Bro Trevor had participants scratching their heads with difficult questions in BQQ. Bro Nathaniel coordinated the entire proceedings as Programme Minister. The next Teaching Night is on Thursday 16 May 6pm. The assigned speakers are: Sis Isabella (BS 1); Sis Laura (BS 3), Bro Bernard (BS 3) and Bro Trevor (AS 3). Bro Fred is the Programme Minister. The ministry encourages tertiary students to participate in the fun and learning programme.
Smilines\Jeydi’s Prayer Jeydi, a brilliant 5 year old, told his daddy he'd like to have a baby brother and, along with his request, offered to do whatever he could to help. His dad, a very bright 35 year old, paused for a moment and then replied, "I'll tell you what, Johnny, if you pray every day for two months for a baby brother, I guarantee that God will give you one!" Jeydi responded eagerly to his dad's challenge and went to his bedroom early that night to start praying for a baby brother. He prayed every night for a whole month, but after that time, he began to get skeptical. He checked around the neighbourhood and found out that what he thought was going to happen, had never occurred in the history of the neighbourhood. You just don't pray for two months and then, whammoa new baby brother. So, Jeydi quit praying. After another month, Jeydi's mother went to the hospital. When she came back home, Jeydi was called into the bedroom. He cautiously walked into the room, not expecting to find anything, and there was a little bundle lying right next to his mother. His dad pulled back the blanket and there was -- not one baby brother, but two!! His mother had twins! Jeydi's dad looked down at him and said, "Now aren't you glad you prayed?" Jeydi hesitated a little and then looked up at his dad and said, "Yes, but aren't you glad I quit when I did?"
TEACHING NIGHT: GOOD NEWS. GOOD TIME. GOOD COMPANY.
